For brand new dvds (different ones; untouched) they skip in random spots. I checked the back, and they are all flawless. I've tried the same dvds in 4 different dvd players, all skip. Anybody else have this problem? Is Netflix getting dodgy discs? I'm soooo confused and frustrated. thanks guys

Ive rented a lot from them and never had that problem. One dvd, The Ugly, did freeze at the end and I couldnt get to see the last 10 min of the movie! %*@&%@*@%@&*&% However, the disc was scratched all to hell

I was having trouble with an increasing number of skipping DVDs. Used the canned air for cleaning computer, blasted dust out of the player and it's much better.

All DVD's will skip at a single (sometimes two, depending on length) moment when the different layers of code are overlapped.

Hey I was with Netflix for over a year and had the five movies out at a time, and in most cases of the 5 I received every week at least one of them would skip even if it just came out. In most cases they would even freeze to where I had to turn off the dvd player and clean the dvd before I could get it to continue, but once cleaned it would play flawlessly. On a side note have you checked out the new Blockbuster Movie Pass? I canceled my netflix account when they raised prices and went with Blockbuster for there movie pass. I find it a lot more valuable as I can rent alot more movies not having to wait for shipping for a lower price. I find it a good option if you have a Blockbuster near your house.

Yeah i hate blockbuster, never switching back again. But I find it wierd even brand new dvds that just came out skip, i had same problems too on 4 different dvd players. Hmmm maybe we should put in a complain they recieve/produce too many dodgy discs? Or are we the minority?

Yeah I know what you mean about hating blockbuster, I swore I would never go back too, due to all the late fees and all. But the Movie Pass they offer is pretty sweet. I go in and pick out my 3 movies and they scan them and I am out the door. Makes it nice because I can get more movies than I did with netflix for a cheaper price. Cause with the shipping with Netflix, I could usually only get my 5 movies out per week, and if I did not return on the right day then my new releases would not come to me for a while because they would be on long wait. With blockbuster I just walk in on Tuesday and get the 3 new release I want.

I'm not sure about the Sopranos one, but I think I was the first person to use that Smallville disc. I got it in the mail the day it was released so no, it was in perfect condition from what I could tell.

Yeah I know that. You are correct, but single layer DVD5's don't pause at all (i.e Cheaper By The Dozen, Just Married etc.) And I'm not talking about the small pauses, some brand new discs just flat out skip.

The wierd thing is I have the Sony 400 DVD Jukebox and I can play all my dvd's without them skipping, and then when I played the netflix dvd's at least 1 out of every 5 would skip when 0 of my 300 + personal dvd's never skipped. Very interesting I think.

seems to be like i'm not the only one to experience problems, anyone think we should take it to the next step and contact netflix?

for the most part I have not had a problem - but every so often one will skip or freeze to the point where I cannot watch it (for instance I have The Company right now and it froze in the middle) sometimes I can put them in my daughter's player (which is a better quality than mine) and it will play perfectly, but this is a pain as I have to kick her out of her own room! most of them have scratches but sometimes they are very clean and still skip. I just watched Paycheck without a single skip - maybe we could send them e-mail feedback??

The only time I've ever had a problem with discs skipping was with BURNT OFFERINGS back in November. Even then, they sent me back another copy that was just fine.

I'm emailing netflix with "a suggestion" right now as we speak. I will link them to this thread to prove that I'm not the only one experiencing problems (and it's not just this one supplier) perhaps you guys could too, to prove a point. I'm not going to be harsh or anything though, I <3 Netflix.

EDIT: here it is

Never had the problem...I sure hope people are smart enough to wipe the disc REGARDLESS before it goes in ones player...it HAS been handled by people, employees, etc... I give a quick wipe on my tshirt and pop it in..no skips, freezes, etc..it also helps to have a dvd player thats worh more than 40 bucks and doesnt have a brand name such as ACME... :p
