View Full Version : The ART of the love story

is an ART that should be done away with.

Am I the only one that is sick and fucking tired of seeing a damned love story in just about every movie being released??

I understand that there are some movies that just wouldn't be the same without the love story aspect (The Butterfly Effect)....but really....does anyone see the point of two people having to fall in love during what should be a melee of blood, gore and misfortune (such as the REMAKE of Dawn of the Dead)

i guess what i'm saying is that there shouldn't be the seeming necessity for a "love interest" one way or the other in 95% of the movies coming out these days........

save the love story for the Love Stories Channel.......let us have some death and violence with a side dish of bitter hatred.....not another cheasy fucking love story

PRAISE "SECRET WINDOW" the anti love story....hehe

Hey now I like a good romance now & then :D

Yes we all know that when they meet usually a happily ever after ending is usually the final act in a movie.

sezerpai...this may shock you, so sit down.

i think some people like love stories. Not everyone wants to entrails and decapitations all the time. Me--I'm somewhere in the middle. I am happy with a love story of a gore fest, so long as they are done well.

I agree with you, Quoth... And sometimes it's necessary, i.e. John Connor's existence in the Terminator is an example. A love story had to be part of the plot in order for the movie to even take place.

BUT!

Sezerpai has a point. Why is it that most American movies seem to require happy endings and love stories along with their bullets and red karo syrup? I have no idea. But - and Logan is gonna kill me for this - the Indiana Jones series is an example of this. I found the women in those movies HIGHLY annoying and distracting. There was no need for a love-interest.

I'm definitely not the authority on love-stories, though, being that I can't stand chick-flicks.

I don't know, because I would like to see more unhappy endings. I haven't got a clue...maybe its just that the majority of people like to have that happy resolution to a movie, and the film-makers are pandering to that to keep the majority satisfied. On the other hand, I wouldn't presume to speak for the rest of the world and I could be utterly wrong...If only I knew everyone in the world eh?;)

i never said that there should be NO love stories.......just that EVERY MOVIE shouldn't have a love story...

and i would even go so far as to say that the majority of the movies made shouldn't involve a love story

a love story can be a good thing.....but it should NOT be an intergral part of 95% of the movies made....

:P

ITA sez.

As a matter of fact, I really can't stand love stories. I get flak from my fellow gal coworkers for not liking the "chick flicks," and liking horror & suspense movies instead.

Damn! This is the most reasonable rant I've heard here in a while!

You are totally right. There could be a movie about mad scientist anal rapists Nazi cannibal overpriced whore zombies -- and there would still be a love story!

JANE: Oh no! The Evil Dr. Hoppenheimer attacked me and implated a virus in my anal cavity. Then he ate my family and over charged my Uncle Albert for sexual favors! What ever shall we do??

JOHN: My god, Jane! We are going to die, and.... and.... my God your eyes are beautiful!

JANE: Oh John, stop it.

JOHN: Jane, maybe it's the anal virus taking over, but I do believe you are blushing.

LOL
I've made a few rants on this very topic.

i wholeheartedly agree.

There are only a few movies that have love stories that don't annoy me (eternal sunshine of the spotless mind being one. great movie btw)

Love stories are mostly formulaic, like the love at first sight angle. WHy is that in every romantic comedy with exception of a precious few? Who sees someone and falls in love, I mean real love?! I'd love to see a romantic comedy with the love at first sight thing and the object of affection ends up killing him/her.

Not many films do a love story right. How many lives have that much sappiness? Honestly. I need to bring a sickness bag every time i see a movie with a love story.

oh yes another example of a scene is:

Guy: We're all going to die!
Girl: Im horny.

BOW CHICKA BOW BOW---

or in van helsing:

VAN HELSING: If you're late, run like hell.
-anna starts to run off. van helsing stops her-
VAN HELSING: don't be late.
-kiss-
