This special show from the 80īs really got you from the very begining with itīs theme intro and the voice over that told you about how our world is not what it seems to be and then all the forest you were watching turned Black and White and they mentionen thereīs always a Dark side!!! Creepy music...for you guys who loved the show or liked it i recommend you to download this themne song and play it in your room with the lights out....in a halloween party..in a spooky tales reunion or just to plain feel scared..try it and youīll get an authentic feel of dread from it...Not like any other show like Twilight Zone or Tales from the Crypt.

I remember that this show was aired after another show called "Monsters" that had this monster family at the beginnig, the little girl eating worms and her dad turning off the light and he was a monster too...that show was o.k but it was never..ever..as creepy as Tales from the dark side, Usually in this show TFTDS there was never a moral of the story....Usually the good guys get it in the end..evil wins all the time usually...and thatīs why it was so damn cool.

Iīll have to accept that some times they were cheesy as hell but sometimes they were just right scary, I remember some with a lot of awe..like:
-The one with the machine that would kill all kinds of noise that goes crazy and kills the dog..and starts stalking the people at their home..and it could even hear their heart beats so it wanted to shut it off....uhhhhhh
-The one with the parents that were telling a horror christmas story to their kids and at the end they say the monster they were talking about is not real and then 2 huge hands come crashing through the window and kill them both in front of their kids
-The one where this family had a curse and their grandmother who was dying always protected them by putting rocks with their name on the chimeney burning...so the grandson tried to see his rock and because its hot he drops it and it cracks and some monsters were after him all the episode till the end when dad comes to tuck him in..and when the kid hugs him he sees hes not his dad but the monster and gets killed.

Good memories of a show iīve never ever had a chance to tape now a days and no one picks up signatures o make a petition to the network to get those on DVd...theyre all on some dusty corner in some wherehouse...i want some of this episodes..anyone???????

Im so surprised that no one..and i mean no one has had the time or the memory to say anything about this great show...i mean..if you were at least interested by it or if you ever got scared by it you could just mention it..I mean..am i the only one who really liked it.....Donīt be an ingrateful mother to this show that only lasted a couple of years and get spooks and scares out of so many kids at the time.....anyone....really????

I have nothing but fond memories of Tales From the Darkside. It had a major impact on me as a horror fan growing up in the 80's. When I was a kid the opening used to creep me out (even though I always wanted to ride bike under those trees...I wonder where they filmed it?)

I liked this show and watched it every Saturday night. The intro was very creepy and I got chills up my spine when that guy started talking. One episode that got to me was the guy who played Larry from Newhart was getting these phone calls from this woman and it turned out to be a statue, and in the end he joined her and became part of the statue. I also liked:

-The Christmas monster
-The one where a mother and her son are werewolves
-This phone won't stop ringing & drives this woman nuts
-This woman keeps getting phone calls and I think they were predicting the future.

The one that scared the shit out of me as a kid was the "Trick or Treat" one.

What was this one about?

I personally liked the intro a lot cause and you said earlier it creeped you out and that voice over worked gret.....and i too felt like riding on those trees before they turned to the black forest...it was the creepiest dark forest...I used to think how would it be if i was there..at that forest at night....what would i do...i still think about it right now and get goosebumps.......Does anyone know where can i get some of this shows or if some station is showing some re-runs of this....or where should we send a petition for a dvd release????????

I used to watch the show some. I remember an episode, and correct me if I'm wrong, where a small girl could predict when someone was going to die. She would go up to the person and tell them goodbye one last time before they died. One of her friends came over one day and before the friend left the girl told her goodbye and as she was leaving her scarf got caught in the door and it snapped her neck. People were scared of her and thought she was actually killing them. Finally her mom becomes fed up with her and tries to drown her or something and I think her mom ends up dying. I don't remember if that's how it went or if that was a different show all together but it was pretty creepy to me at the time!

Ahh crap...my bad. The episode I was thinking of was not called "Trick or Treat"(which is actually the very 1st episode of TFTDS). The episode I mentioned was from the 2nd season and was entitled "Halloween Candy" directed by Tom Savini.

It's about a mean old man who hates trick or treaters and puts nasty stuff in their candy. But later he gets a knock on the door and a creepy voice says "trick or treat"..but when he opens the door nobody's there! The rest of the episode the old man is being stalked by someone or something until the ending where..ahh you can guess how it ends. :p

Here's a very cool fansite if you want to check it out. It has an episode guide and a few pics from the episode I just mentioned.

i never saw this but have always been interested in seeing it

i have a question though. i saw a clip of a series many years ago and never found out what it was, it was of 2 people sitting apart on the floor and out of one of their mouths came a long barbed tongue, thats all i saw, is it from this series?

Oh Wow ! I remember that one! Actually, the girl ends up seeing her reflection in the mirror or a pool of water and has to say 'goodbye' to herself. GAD I thought that was morbid at the time! Genius now that I look back at it but man, just slick, black morbidity at the time.

My fave will always be Emily. And if you don't know who Emily is - just ask Tom Savini. Awwwww, Emily.

Cunning Visions - holy shit does your avatar rock.

I found this on another TALES FROM THE DAKSIDE site:
I Can't Help Saying Goodbye: (4*)
A nine year old girl gains the ability to see peoples' deaths seconds before they occur, so she says 'Goodbye' to them. Her friend, and her mother die, and when her older sister's boyfriend begins to grow fearful of the girl, she says 'Goodbye' to him, too, before he dies of a heart attack. The older sister unravels and decides to 'teach' her sister how to swim. The girl stares at a mirror, and watches water rise, all the while saying 'Goodbye' to herself.

Creepy.......and the one i loved and scared me to death was:

Cutty Black Sow, The: (4*)
A family watches over their dying matriarch. Before she dies, she explains the curse of the 'Cutty Black Sow' to her twelve year old grandson. She also tells him how to avoid the dread creature which appears on All Hallows Eve. The kid follows the rules, but makes a mistake near the end of the night. He learns the price of his mistake as he is killed while hugging his dad, who, in fact, was the 'Cutty Black Sow' in disgiuse.

So if anyone has information on how we can get this episodes on DVD or VHS please contect us...to us FANS of the 80īs horror theyre fond memories that we would like to have again and again..have a heart.....yeah..thats what the tin man said!!!!

Bumping up to say another fav episode of mine was "The Last Car," about the woman on the train who learns she and the other passengers are headed for the beyond. Boy did that one creep me out!

The opening credits still give me a chill when I see them today. I don't know why, guess it just brings back memories. I remember when I was little I used to be scared of the opening and the only thing that would keep me from getting really scared is that right at the end you could see a car driving on the side of the road. You have to look closely though. I still want to know where they filmed the credits..and if it's still there today.

Call it nostalgia..call it the fever..but as i got all fumed up on tales from the darkside i just went out to where i knew i could get some "Old Blockbuster" and rented a tape where it had 3 episodes.....Not all of them were all that scary but then i noticed theyre just selling and if not theyll just throw all their VHS tapes to the garbage cause the manager said to me that they dont want to have VHS movies anymore...now theyll have only dvdīs, so i was lucky enough to rent this on time and iīll tape them for the sake of the intro at least..its still spooky....after those i rented 3 episodes from another cool show "Monsters" and i rented some from "Freddyīs Nightmares"...and just to add a cherry to that cake i rented some old He-Man episodes.....so itīs cool now..i have at least a small reference to cool 80īs t.v. shows in my collection.

This is my favorite TV show of all time. I used to repeat the opening intoduction to people in elementary school. I know I'm nuts.

My favorite episode though was "Inside The Closet" about a girl who rents a room and finds that there's a monster residing inside of her tiny-door closet who comes out at night. Fritz Weaver is in it(ya know Dexter Stanley from "the Crate" aka Creepshow).
You'll never look at small doors the same way again.
Thank you Tom Savini.

I still have an old tape with some recorded episodes of this show hiding in storage somewhere. I used to watch it ALL THE TIME.

The ones that freaked me out the most were already mentioned.
The one where the grandfather is telling the story of the Christmas Grither monster 'with knuckles the size of basketballs', etc... I was gettin' freaked out for no known reason, and then the hands broke through the windows of the house and devoured him!

The other one that I really loved was the one with the town of werewolves. Great episode.

Does anyone remember an episode with lots of fireflies? For some reason, by mind keeps recalling something from this show that had tons of fireflies. It might have even been from the werewolf episode, I'm not sure.

... Was there also an episode with a grandmother just died down the hall, haunting a young boy while his parents are gone? Or is that from a Stephen King short story? Or both? I forget. heh,

Isn't she though?:)

***SPOILER***
My favorite thing about this episode was the subtle allusion to the fact that good ol' daddy Fritz subjected his dear little Emily to one too many experiments...
***END SPOILER***

You gotta admit that Emily is one of Master Tom Savini's greatest creations.

And I lived in a house for a while that had a guest room with a tiny door like that and whenever I was in there, there wouldn't be a single moment when SHE was ever out of my mind.;)

Great now I'm on a Tales from the Darkside phase also, thanks to you rogelioduron...bastard :p (j/k of course)

Has anyone else signed the petition to release it on DVD? I know 9 out of 10 online petitions never work but what the hell, I gave it a shot. Unfortunately Artisan owns the rights to TFTD and they're known to release shitty DVDs (I'm still pissed that they're not releasing season 2 of Twin Peaks ).

Oh and X-Nightcrawler, you were close on that ending. But it was a Choco-Taco not an ice cream cone. ;)
