I'm intrigued by the fact that Harry Potter is your favourite movie of all time, but LOTR doesn't even belong to the top ten movies you want to see in December?

Anyway, LOTR for me.

Lord of the Rings for me as well. I think alot of people are going to be surprised that films they were looking forward too, werent as good as they were thought to be. Majestic, and Vanilla Sky reviews were posted on AICN some weeks ago, and they were only mediocre. I know they might not be legit, but it was still disheartening all the same. ..nevermind

I'd probably end up seeing them all sooner or later. However, there are only a couple of movies I have high hopes for. These are IN THE BEDROOM and MONSTER'S BALL. Everything else looks mediocre or overhyped.

Ocean's 11 - I think this one still looks quite entertaining, although I'm getting damned tired of seeing the preview every time I pay to see something.

Vanilla Sky - I could care less about whether or not this is a remake of Abre los ojos -- a flick I liked very much. I'm in just because it's Cameron Crowe. Of course, the fact that I enjoyed Amenábar's film immensely helps, too.

Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring - It's a Peter Jackson movie, which means that to me that I'm going to see it on the big screen regardless of plot, performers, or advertising.

Those are the only three I'm really burning to see, in a matter of speaking, although I will probably also check out The Royal Tenebaums, The Monster's Ball, Not Another Teen Movie, and A Beautiful Mind, despite the fact that Akiva Goldsman is the man behind that screenplay.

That's pretty much it. I'm still fairly picky about what I go to see, and will remain that way until I start getting free passes to see these things. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

1. Lord of the Rings -- because of the hype
2. Vanilla Sky -- because of Cruise/Crowe
3. Royal Tenenbaums -- no explanation needed
4. Majestic -- Im awfully curious on what Carrey has up his sleeve

and if I have time..
Ali.

I just saw the FULL trailer to Kate And Leopold on Coming Attractions and it looks like a very cute movie, it looks like a good date movie. I think I might check it out in theaters. There hasn't really been any sweet romantic comedies out in awhile, other than Serendipity, which I didn't see.

- ones i'll probaly end up seeing because the trailer's look entertaining, The Shipping News, A Beautiful Mind (NOT cause the trailer looks entertaining but because i wanna see how Russel Crowe does in his first big role since Gladiator.), Kate and Leopold, Imposter, Vanilla Sky, Not Another Teen Movie, and The Royal Tenenbaums....

Additional thoughts:

OCEAN'S 11 - The trailer reeks of narcissism. Can't stand Clooney and Roberts. Let's hope hip and cool Soderbergh doesn't get too self-consciously hip and cool this time.

NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE - Not another stupid parody. Thanks, but no thanks.

VANILLA SKY - Crowe is a better director of actors than Kubrick, so I have faith he can carve a semi-decent performance out of Cruise. Unfortunately, the only way to direct Penelope Cruz is to dub her.

HOW HIGH - The question is how low.

JIMMY NEUTRON: BOY GENIUS - Thank God I don't have kids yet.

JOE SOMEBODY - Who?

KATE AND LEOPOLD - Not another annoyingly cute Meg Ryan movie!

LORD OF THE RINGS - I'll need the help of reviews to decide whether to give in to the hype.

THE MAJESTIC - I'm not a big fan of Jim Carrey the Serious Actor. He's like Robin Williams, though not as vomit-inducingly earnest.

ALI - Despite Michael Mann, I'm not sold. Frankly, this looks boring.

IMPOSTER - The release date has been pushed back several times for this Gary Sinise futuristic thriller. It could only mean one thing: Stay away!!!

THE BUSINESS OF STRANGERS - Word is Stochard Channing delivers an Oscar-worthy performance. I say, who cares?

NO MAN'S LAND - I missed this when they showed it at the Chicago Film Festival. Will check it out for sure.

PINERO - Two words: Benjamin Bratt. Two more words: Must Avoid.

IRIS - One of two films featuring the overrated Judi Dench. I don't get it. Give her a Lifetime Achievement Award and get it over with.

THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS - Has not been getting the rave reviews everyone's been predicting. Lower your expectations.

A BEAUTIFUL MIND - A beautiful Jennifer Connelly makes this a must-see.

BLACK HAWK DOWN - The buzz is building. Anything is better than Ridley Scott's last effort.

GOSFORD PARK - Will we see the Altman who gave us NASHVILLE or the Altman who dished out crap called PRET-A-PORTER?

I AM SAM - You are rental.

IN THE BEDROOM - Looks great.

MONSTER'S BALL - Word is Halle Berry bares not only her breasts but also her soul. I would've settled with just the former.

THE SHIPPING NEWS - Looks like another quaint small town tale from Lasse Halstrom. Also, re: IRIS. But instead of one overrated actor, we have two: Spacey and Dench.

The trailers, the stars, the directors, the subject matter, the reviews: all these help us determine which films we'd like to see. I don't judge a film based on any of these. But they do shape my expectations. Some films may live up, others may exceed, most will not. Like I said earlier, I may end up seeing all the films because I like to give each film a chance. But my expectations are usually accurate. The sad fact is there isn't much to like out there.

1) The Majestic (This looks great! I LOVE FRANK DARABONT MOVIES!)

Not Another Teen Movie
Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius
Joe Somebody

The rest I'll see if I get a chance.

I already saw The Business of Strangers at a local film festival. It was good, though not as good as I expected it to. Julia Stiles was incredible. 7/10

The only movies coming out this december that i'm looking forward to are(in order of how much i want to see them):
1. Ocean's Eleven
2. Vanilla Sky
3. The Royal Tenenbaums

I will probably see Lord of the Rings, but it's not on my must see list.

Am i the only one who thinks the majestic looks horrible? After The Shawshank Redemption and the Green Mile(both of which i loathed) i've pledged to stay away from Frank Darabont.

Movies I will definately see:
- Fellowship of the Ring. I've been waiting my whole life for it.
- Vanilla Sky. Looks intriguing.

Movies I might see:
- Ocean's 11 - Cool cast, cool director, and looks fun.
- Black Hawk Down -- Sci-Fi Ridley's one of my favorite directors, but I not as big a fan of Non-Sci-Fi Ridley.
- The Royal Tenenbaums -- looks like something I might enjoy.
- A Beautiful Mind. For the cast!

Movies I Probably Won't See
- The Majestic. I'm a fan of Carrey's dramatic work, and of Darabont's previous flicks, but the preview for this managed to make it look not interesting at all.

well after seeing Vanilla Sky this morning, I think we can all take it off our list of must see movies. it is TERRIBLE. really really bad, and simply because it doesn't know what it wants to say...and it uses a trite plot device at the end.

as far as other must-see movies go, majestic keeps moving up the list and Gosford Park is moving up the list with a bullet. It won three major awards yesterday from the NYC critics and is being bandied about as a major Oscar contender now.
