I just typed in his name via Google and the story appears on the very top.....
Marlon Brando, Star of `The Godfather,' `Waterfront,' Dies
July 2 (Bloomberg) -- Marlon Brando, called by many the greatest actor of all time and best known for his roles in ``On the Waterfront'' and ``The Godfather,'' has died. He was 80.
Brando died yesterday in Los Angeles, KPHO-TV reported. The cause of death wasn't immediately known. KPHO-TV is a CBS affiliate in Phoenix.
Brando earned best actor Oscars for his performances as the ex-fighter in ``On The Waterfront'' (1954) and as mafia boss Don Vito Corleone in ``The Godfather'' (1972). Brando refused the second Oscar in protest of the federal government's treatment of American Indians.
He sent Sacheen Littlefeather to the awards ceremony to give his refusal speech, and she was booed off the stage.
He was born in Nebraska in 1924 and made his Broadway debut in ``I Remember Mama.'' Brando's big break came in his role as Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams's ``A Streetcar Named Desire'' in 1947. He also starred in the film version in 1951.

I just found this out no more than 10 minutes ago.
This is truly a sad day, indeed. He was, without a doubt, one of the best actors to ever grace this earth. He's done so much with his body of work, that no one can ever repeat it.
A many of talent, and an amazing actor.
R.I.P Mr. Brando, may you find true happiness in a better place.

Man, this is awful. I'll have to watch the Godfather today.
CNN has the story up, too. This has been a heart-wrenching year of loss. And it's only July.
Marlon Brando was the king of the silver screen. From his legendary performances in On The Waterfront and A Streetcar Named Desire to his phenomenal turn as Don Corleone in The Godfather and of course his tongue-in-cheek role as Carmine in The Freshman, Marlon Brando did it all. He was incredible. May his legend live on for years to come. Rest in peace, Mr. Brando.

I can't believe it. I'm shocked. He was an old, fat, eccentric bastard. But he sure had a lot of steam, and it seemed like his ticker could go on for much longer than it has.
Shocking.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen many Brando films. But from what I've seen, he has never given a bad performance. Who can forget Vito Corleone? Terry Malloy? Stanley Kowalski? All classic film characters.
RIP, Brando.

Marlon Brando was one of the only actors we had left from a time when everyone on screen seemed to glow with talent. When Marlon Brando was in his prime you couldn't take your eyes off of him. He managed to keep you attention for an entire movie without special effects or wild action sequences. Marlon Brando is gone and with him goes talent that no one is on par with. I mourn the passing of Marlon Brando because now all we are left with is mediocrity. We still have a few great actors but they are far and few between.
I hope that Marlon Brando is somewhere better now. I wish him the best of luck wherever his talent may take him and I look forward to seeing him at my dinner party in the sky.

R.I.P Marlon Brando.
Of course the man was terrific in The Godfather, but one cannot overlook his work in On the Waterfront, Guys and Dolls, Streetcar, The Freshman, and Apocalypse Now among others. What's saddest is that his last role ever was in a 2001 Michael Jackson video. :(
I think it is great that he lived this long, considering his weight problems and all. But still, this is definitely a sad day for Hollywood, another legend is lost. They better do a nice tribute for him at next year's Oscars like they did with Hepburn and Peck. He and Reagan both died only one month apart from each other too.
His refusal of the Best Actor Award 30 years ago still amazes me today. I don't know anyone gutsy enough, save Michael Moore, who would do something like that nowadays.

I heard the news this morning, and I was really shocked. The thing that stuck out in my mind the most, is how people really wanted him to get the AFI Life Achievement Award this year, instead of Meryl Streep (In this thread HERE (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=64651&highlight=streep)). I guess I'm just angry, because Brando should have gotten it. It's so sad that he's gone. Quotes like these really make you wonder...:
I mean, Streep is more than deserving, but before Brando? I don't think so. Brando is not only a legend, but sadly, it doesn't look like he's got much longer. Sigh. I just hope they give it to him before...well...before it's too late.

I was extremly sad to here the news about Marlon Brando. A couple of weeks ago I finished his autobiography. Even though the better part of his career was over when I was born I was still fascinated by the man. In my opinion his performance in A Streetcar Named Desire is the greatest acting I have ever seen. I own some of his movies on dvd, movies like Streetcar, On the Waterfront, One-eyed Jacks, Apocalypse Now, and of course The Godfather. The most amazing part about this incredible man's career is that he just didn't care about it, not at all, yet he still became THE GREATEST ACTOR OF ALL TIME. One thing is for sure, we will never see the likes of Brando again, and even if we did it wouldn't mean as much because he was the first, a true original. Try watching a Gary Cooper movie, or a John Wayne movie, or Gable or any other pre Brando actor. Not that they aren't good actors but they just couldn't come close to the depths of Brando's performances. The legacy of Marlon Brando will live forvever. The method actors that would follow in his footsteps will carry it on from generation to generation. The names include James Dean, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Nicholas Cage, Sean Penn and many more. I had only three idols in movies, Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, and Martin Scorsese. Now I only have two. God bless Marlon Brando.
