I've read the first couple of reviews for both catwoman and king arthur, and all i'm hearing is that the movies don't compare to their inspirqtions.
All i'm hearing in the catwoman reviews is that the movie isn't the same as the comic book, that it's not selena kyle and it's not gotham and so on and so forth. Haven't the producers and director of the movie clearly stated that the movie has nothing to do with the comic book other than the name. That this is an entirely different character, an entirly different setting, and an entirely different story? i mean, jesus, after hearing all that and having looked at the poster for like a hundred times, you still go into the movie thinking you're gona get the comic-book movie? i thoroughly believe that critquing a movie as such is wrong. you want to judge the movie, then you have to judge is as as a stand-alone movie, a stand-alone character, and most of all a stand-alone story.
This isn't the catwoman from the comic books, this is a whole different catwoman, with no ties to the the comic book or movie. basically what i'm trying to say here is, when you do watch the movie, and i still have high hopes for it(love the director's other flick, and i've strangely become accustomed to that costume), don't let your comic book ego get the best of you, it's not that kind of flick. i think this is more for non-comic readers. besides long time tim burton collaborator denise di novi claims it's her best accomplishment to date, so you never know...

The same goes for king arthur, all recent reviewers have been judging this by comparison to the myth. Isn't it written right there on the godamn poster and trailer that this is the true story of what happened, meaning it's an entirely different story with certain similar parallels. So basically, don't compare it to the god damn myth and just take it as is. i know the myth of arthur and that's not what i'm expecting for this movie.not a myth and no traces of magic or fantasy.all i'm expecting from this movie is a good decent realistic action movie, more of a blockbuster than an epic. do you really think this movie is gona win awards and shit? that kind of expectation, i reserve for alexander.

just take these movies as what they are and enjoy them. don't down them because them because they are not their inspirations.

If they have nothing to do with their sources, they shouldn't be named the same should they?

I understand trying to market something that ISN'T the same as the original (faux colognes, parfumes, etc.) but selling something as one thing and purposely delivering something else usually irks most people in a false advertising kind a way.

You don't advertise King Arthur as the "Real Story" and then fabricate something totally different (seems to be a bug infesting hollywood atm.)

But then again, I would love a fresh approach to it as well as long as they don't stretch things too far.

When that happens you get Sacriligious shit like Leage of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Whoever greenlighted that film should be forced to actually READ the stories they borrowed from.

I don't think most people's complaints are about the differences in the source material. I think most people's complaints are about shitty the two movies look. Catwoman has Halle Berry in a stupid Cat suit that I've literally seen in porno shops, and done better. She goes around, acting like a cat, ressurrected by a cat god and fighting Sharon Stone sportin' a dyke hairstyle. Arthur isn't looking too promising, and I've read no reviews that claim it's anything to write home about

Even if i knew nothing about batman, the catwoman movie would still look like crap to me.

Plenty of movies based on comic books and books have not been reproduced exactly as the original material dictates. This does not stop them from being any less good or bad.

Hell, even the source material can be atrocious and a great movie can still come out of it.

The loyalty to source material would not affect my review. Of course, it doesn't matter how loyal Catwoman is to the source material, it will still suck.

If we can't criticize Catwoman for its differences with the source material, at least we should be able to ask just why the hell a movie with no similarity to its source material was made in the first place.

I'm writing a script for a new BATMAN movie. In my version, Batman's alter ego is a 14 year old, Asian American, who is confined to a wheelchair. He fights crime on the west side of Columbus, OH.

Do you think Batman fans would have a problem with the liberties I've taken w/ the source material? I don't think Hollywood would.

Someone tell me how this rediculous situation would be any different from what's been done w/ Catwoman.
