Is it just me, or does "A Nightmare on elm street part 2: Freddy's revenge" seem a little gay?

The movie is filled with homoerotic undertones. Why else would the main charecter go to a gay bar and not do his girlfriend. They used Freddy as a metaphor for homosexuality in that particular Nightmare.

The gay undertones were there, but that's all they were. He couldn't sleep, so he went on to walk around town to a bar. I don't think he knew it was gay; otherwise, he wouldn't have went there. And, he left his girlfriend, because he knew that Freddy would take over and kill her. Freddy already tried to, but the guy fought back that goey tounge.

I might be wrong...but didn't I read somewhere that NOES 2 director Jack Sholder is gay?
I just read that in the Nightmare on Elm Street DVD Boxset there's a feature called "Nightmare Encyclopedia" and there you can find documentary footage titled "Psycho Sexual Circus" and it has interviews with Jack Sholder, Rachel Talalay, Robert Englund, etc. and they talk about Nightmare 2's "homo-erotic undertones."

I thought I heard that Jack Sholder was gay as well. Is that true? Yeah Nightmare 2 has gay undertones but I don't think they were intentional.

But, is he?! I know the actor playing Jesse is gay . . . I didn't know about the director.

The director JACK SHOLDER isn't gay. I read an interview with him just before the release of WISHMASTER 2 where he swore that the homosexual undertones were totally coincidental and he didn't even find out that MARK PATTON (JESSE) was actually gay until AFTER the filming.
I admit, it seems extremely unlikely that NOBODY realised the film seemed well bent whilst filming, but I don't understand why the director would lie about it.

They guy was called Jesse, which I find hilarious being Scottish coz thats usually slang for a guy who's that way inclined.
Part 2 sucked anyway.

In that case, alike me, you would've appreciated the scene where the love interest (can't remember her name now) is chilling out by her swimming pool, and her mum yells out to her "THERE'S A JESSE ON THE PHONE!!"
Fucking classic. My dad wasn't even watching it, but heard it from the living room and damn near pissed himself! :D

"A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge" is not too bad or gay either. Sure, there were some questionalbe elements in the movie, but they really aren't that obvious.
1) Let's see...Jesse does that weird dance in his bedroom...I've seen weirder stuff in straighter 80's fluff.
2) Jesse, unable to sleep, wonders off into the night around town a gay bar. I don't even understand why he would leave his house that late at night, but still, I don't think he knew it was a gay bar. He wouldn't have went there if he knew. He had just moved to the Springwood area.
3) Jesse is with his girlfriend, and leaves her very suddenly when things start to heat up...and when Freddy starts to take over. he didn't want her in harms way, and when the Freddy tounge came out, he did best thing he could - get the hell out of there.
4) After Jesse leaves his girlfriend to protect her, he goes to Grady's house and asks him to watch over him and make he sure he doesn't fall asleep. Take it as you will, but he was just trying to get help from another friend, that was all. Freddy already started to take over when he was with his girlfriend, so he knew she wasn't safe around him. And besides, she wasn't really his girlfriend, not yet. They were just getting closer to each other...and heating up. Freddy used their emotional and intense relationship to take over his body kill her....but, Jesse realized his ploy and stopped him. That is why he tries to get help from Grady.
All these instances have gay undertones about them. But, honestly, I didn't even pick them up until I joined this movie site and read other schmoe's thoughts about the movie. When it comes down to it, this first "Nightmare" sequel, I think, is one of the stronger entries in the series. People seem to forget...Freddy hadn't become the comedian he would be from "Dream Warriors" to "Freddy's Dead." He was still darkly creepy, he had limited but enough screentime (Jesse was the star here), and the film oozed of creepy atmosphere.
In a time where most horror movies and horror movie sequels have become inferior myriad clones, "A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge" is a different kind of horror movie. It may have some questionable tones to it, but honestly, I think they actually benefit the movie. They give it more of a dark feeling you don't see in a lot of movies. I didn't mind it and welcomed it. It helps make this first "Nightmare" sequel the most different (in a good way, I think) to separate itself from the superior original. I know most schmoes won't agree, but I think so.
You think this movie has gay undertones (overtones, or whatever)? Go watch "Jeepers Creepers 2" and judge for yourself. That movie was more self-indulgent of homosexuality...not that there's anything wrong with that!

JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 appears gay? Well we all know what VICTOR SALVA likes don't we boys??!! :(
I agree with you. I like this entry and it's my personal favourite. FREDDY was still scary. He became a cack ass comedian in the third entry, so this is what we have to hold on to after the original. I also dug the vibe and atmosphere. I liked the fact it had the balls to try something new rather than a straight forward sequel that just retreads the events of the first. The whole 'possession' shit was a good idea, and it mostly worked for me. It was a little slow in places but the acting was good, the characters were better and generally there's enough fun gooey stuff to keep you glued to the screen.

Part 2 is the worst of all the Elm Streets I can't believe anyone is prepared to defend it.
There's the ludicrous (intentional or not) homosexual undertones, the mystifying bollox with the school bus (what was that all about?) and most sacrilegous of all Freddie's knives pop out of his fingers like demon finger nails.
A complete travesty.
Even rubbishy entries like Part 5 & 6 had some redeeming features this film has none.

Intentional or not, the homoerotic undertones in "Freddy's Revenge" are there. I don't see how it can be denied, and I don't see any reason to deny it. Someone called the homoerotic undertones "ludicrous." Why? Why does anyone have a problem with it being, consciously or not, a metaphor of a young man's struggle to come to terms with his homosexuality? In my opinion, there have been sexual subtexts in horror almost as long as horror has existed. They're certainly present in all the other "Nightmare" movies, and everyone seems to accept that when it's framed in a heterosexual context. Hate the movie for its cheesy dialogue, lackluster cinematography, bad acting, or what-have-you, but why is the theme of homosexuality in this movie such a turnoff for so many people? Myself, I applaud it for exploring new ground; I think it's one of the film's virtues.

Of course it was gay, I loved it... Really good stuff here... So over the top, and unbelivably silly shit... I love all the sequels, they're great in their own way! This movie definately hadda dark feel to it, and honestly people, how could you honestly say the shower scene in this flick was no intentional gay or meant to be?

Freddy is and always has been a Child Molester/Killer. So if your a fan, this shouldn't surprise you he did this. It's not gay.
NOES 2 and Jeepers Creepers 2 are the gayest horror movies ever made. Decent movies, but Gay.

I think that A Nightmare on Elm Street part 2: Freddy's Revenge is one word . . . . Hillarious!
Any movie that shows a guy being tied to showers by jump ropes and beaten in the ass with towels is not horror, it is just dark comedy. I think that the pool scene is another example, when Freddy was making hot dogs and beer explode. I really loved this movie because it was so dark and weird. I like all the Nightmare but this is my guilty pleasure of the bunch. I could watch this film any night of the week.
This film also taught me to be careful when I go to clubs at night.

It was an ok movie. But there was a lot of homo sexual things in it. I also didn't like how the main character was a guy. In slashers it's supposed to be a girl with big tits. Or just a cute girl.

It's been a long time since I've seen part two.. (And I mean a LONG time...)
But why would there even be a gay bar in the script? Really? What was the important element that made a gay bar get penned into the film, if perhaps there weren't certain overtones?
You guys have said that the character didn't know it was a gay bar. But the screenwriter did. And so did the director who kept it in the film. There's nothing wrong with having it, but really, ask yourself why was it put into the film?
Jason Vorhees

They put it in the film because the gym teacher was into homo sexual s and m stuff. Grady said so earlier in the movie. I think he went there because Freddy made him

The homosexual overtones sound pretty clear cut and dry, then.

Did any of you ever try and explore the motives and intentions of the actual writer of the film? Perhaps he had something to say.
Personally, I think the film overflows with homoeroticism. And when you really think about it, it's one giant metaphor for a teenager struggling with his homosexuality. He feels being gay is a beast living inside him, pushing to get out. In this case, that beast is Freddy. It's all there in full, clear visuals.

The writer discussed this on The Nightmare Encyclopedia disc. He claims it was unintentional. I think it probably was unintentional, to a degree. It's all how you look at it. From one angle, it's not homoerotic and if you look at it as a homoerotic film there are many instances of such.

Ah yes. That would be Joe Esposito's "You're the Best Around". One of the greatest achievements of the 80's. Seriously though, my thoughts mirror Duke Nukem's. I never thought of this movie as being gay until I joined this site. Some stuff is hard to explain like Jesse going to a gay bar and then having his gym teacher take him back to school and take a shower. Other stuff only sounds gay when people write it, like: Jesse is getting it on with his girlfriend and then decides to leave to spend the night at his guy friends house. Wording it like that doesn't give it the proper explanation. And let us not forget that Jesse has a sign on his bedroom door that says No Girls Allowed. All in all I think FREDDY'S REVENGE is a pretty good movie. FREDDY is still in the shadows and creepy in this one. They actually were still trying to make him scary even though some parts didn't exactly work for me. Exploding beer cans for one thing. FREDDY being defeated by... the power of love?! Hmmm... I don't believe Jack Sholder was gay either. Mark Patton yes. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.
