Both look great and I'm most likely going to the movies next weekend. What should I see if I can only see one?

I think you should see Ocean's Eleven, it is such an entertaining movie, i've seen it 4 times and i'm still entertained by it! In fact i am seeing it tonight for the 5th time.. The charecters are stylish, funny, smart, cool, and hip...... One thing I advise to everybody before seeing it is this, If you go into it expecting to see another Steven Soderbergh masterpiece you will most likely be disappointed, but if you go into expecting a good, classy, and entertaining movie you will like it (or in my case love it).. The overhead shots of Las Vegas are the best I have ever seen, and there are some parts in here that will make you laugh out loud, example:
Julia Roberts: We need to get Rusty a girl
Brad Pitt: Well there's a women's prison down the road..
That was great!!!!!!!! I cant say enough good things about this movie you have to check it out... Maybe this will help you deside, Peter Travers of Rollingstone magazine calls Ocean's Eleven "The coolest movie of the year", YOU must see it, it's excellant!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Out of the two I'd see VANILLA SKY but I think they both look good. Next weekend I'm going to the movies and I think I'll check out Not Another Teen Movie and Ocean's Eleven. Since the theater I'm going to isn't getting Vanilla Sky this next weekend I'll see Ocean's Eleven. I plan on seeing Not Another Teen Movie for sure.

Jeez, dicaprio_travolta_man, the movie just came out 3 days ago and you've seen it four times... that's a little pathetic. Not tryin to insult or anything, cause I'm not I just think that's a bit too much, now.
Anyway, I myself am going to see Vanilla Sky this weekend. I think it looks great. When I first saw the trailer for it before 13 Ghosts, I was in awe of it. I dunno why, it just looks damn good. I can't wait to see Diaz as a fiercely jealous, suicidal ex-lover. Everyone looks great in the movie.

Well Oceans 11 is amazing, one of my favorite movies ever but the two films are very different.
If you are in the mood for a star-studded old-fashioned heist film, see Oceans 11.
If you are in the mood for a psycho-sexual erotic thriller check out Vanilla Sky.

Wow we know where you stand between the two films. And Vanilla Sky hasn't even come out yet. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

You make it sound like it's some Shannon Tweed B-movie http://www.joblo.com/ubb/eek.gif. I'm sure it will have some sex in it, but I don't think that will be the main plot. I'm expecting a love story mixed with a thriller with an amazing twist.

Ocean's 11 is a very entertaining movie. If you don't want to think to much, see this film. However, if you want a thought-provoking psychological thriller Vanilla Sky is what you should see.

I haven't seen either yet, but of the two Vanilla Sky looks way better than Ocean's 11. I'll certainly check out Ocean's 11, (I mean how can I not with Soderbergh AND that cast!) but I've heard the story is pretty lame and the movie is really all about watching the actors wear cool clothes. Doesn't sound like my kinda movie to me.
Vanilla Sky looks great though. It looks like an intelligent thrilller with great acting. I can't wait to see Cameron Diaz in a darker role! And I love Cameron Crowe, the man behind the brilliant Almost Famous (10/10).
I'll see both and let you all know.

Oh I agree with everything you said, Colin, about Ocean's 11 only looking good but seems to all be about the stars.
And everything about Vanilla Sky, because well, I said it already as well up there. Cameron Diaz is, like with you also, a stand-out in this film for me. She looks like a Best Supporting Actress contender this year from the previews, IMHO.

Thanks for your input guys. The problem is I'll probably be able to only see one and rent the other one because December is a big movie month and other movies are coming out in the next weeks which I want to see. Wow dicarpriotravoltaman you saw Ocean's 11 four times already! Maybe you are a movie critic after all. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
By the way, my friend and I think Vanilla Sky looks similar to Eyes Wide Shut, is that true?

No, it looks different than Eye's Wide Shut. I think Vanilla Sky looks great and I can't wait to see it. If I were you I'd definately check that out and rent Ocean's Eleven when it comes out on video. But it's up to you.

I just saw Ocean's 11 and I can tell you that you should see Vanilla Sky. Even though I haven't even seen it yet, I can presume it will be better. Ocean's 11 was an alright film and nothing more. A few too many plot holes for me. I know Im definetely going to go see Vanilla Sky this weekend, and if I had to choose between the two I would choose Vanilla Sky.

Ah yeah, I am a film critic, How the hell else do you think I could of seen it 5 times in 3 days, I mean I work a shit load of hours at the theatre so I really dont have time on weekends to see movies, and here's how I saw it 5 times, 1. tuesday, reviewed it for the people of S.D. 2. was invited by a friend to see it wednesday, 3. Thursday, had to watch 2 of the 3 prints we got for the theatre I work at, to make sure the print's were in good shape, 5. Girlfriend made me take her to it friday afternoon before work... And no I am not pathetic, I like this movie, and if I want to see it more then once I WILL no matter what you say.. Oh and Flickjunkie (no offence man, I think your cool and all, you also have some good taste in movies) Since when do I care what you think about me?.?.?.

This was written 12/5/01 at 8:37PM(ET). I remember you saying this because I was waiting for your review. I don't mean to piss you off DTman, but according to this post there is no way you saw it on Tuesday and Wednesday. I understand if you just made a mistake and forgot what days you saw it (just wanted to point out something you said earlier).
Travolta Man - Are you really a critic? I hope the paper you write for is paying your proofreader enough money.

Travolta Man - I'm not trying to insult you. If I make a spelling, grammatical or any other kind of errors, I would greatly appreciate it if someone corrects me. So should you.

I mean cuz you lash out ALL the time when you are corrected and so forth........go have a shot of tequila or sumthin......
A buddy of mine went to a sneak preview of VANILLA SKY last night. He says it's excruciatingly bad. He predicts it's going to do well enough to open at #1 this weekend. But expect a fast fade.

Well it's settled. Ocean's 11 is the choice, because Vanilla Sky isn't coming to my town this weekend (shitty movie theatre we have here, too bad... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif ). Oh well, Ocean's 11 looks great, and I've heard rave reviews from kids at school (and of course from dicapriotravoltaman and idealdiscountdude!)

You made the right choice. I saw both today, and even though I actually told you to see Vanilla Sky instead of Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Eleven (9/10) is far superior. It's just such a fun time! Vanilla Sky (4/10) is over-long, boring and with a ridiculous ending that seems like it belongs on a different movie as it doesn't even match the GENRE of the rest of the film! Both have solid acting, but Ocean's Eleven is much better.
