I'm not really sure if this one is upcoming or not....but it definately should be.......therefore i couldn't really think of another forum appropriate for this topic.

The Davinci Code by Dan Brown is definately one of the best reads i've come across in a LONG time.....and much lesser works have been put on screen. I really hope this one will see a well done screen adapatation. Not to mention, The Davinci Code is one of the best selling books of all time from what i understand.

This is one book that's just begging to make an onscreen appearance.....and I for one certainly hope it happens

I've also heard Harrison Ford is being considered for the lead. Man, that would definitely make up for Hollywood Homicide.

It was such a terrible book!!!! I'm pretty sure that Russel Crowe is a lock for the part but the whole time I was reading it, I felt that the part screamed for Angelina Jolie's attention.

I liked the book although I wouldn't take any truth from it. Most of those things the author made up. Also the ending was lame.

i love the book, it's one of the most fascinating mystery thrillers ever written and a movie is definitly welcome in my book. it'l certainly be controversial given the book's material, which only adds to more box office. i heard tom hanks was interested in the choice of langdon, hell no, he's not the character at all. russel crowe is fine, hugh jackman is alright and harrison ford?i guess he'll do ok as well. but the choice of kate beckinsale as sophie neveau is pin point accurate, i can't think of a better more suitable actress for the role. this is one movie i'd like to see made and made good.

Its a great book but with Russell Crowe and Kate Beckinsale as possible stars, you'd need horses, ropes, and possible a cattle prod to get me to pay to see it at the cinema.

What happened to Kate Beckinsale?

Never mind Wacko Jacko she looks like she's had a full body transplant since she decamped to Hollywood.

I finally finished this overhyped piece of trash, and I must say that it was an overhyped piece of trash. My initial problem with the book was that the format was as follows...

Robert walked into the Louvre.

The Louvre was built in 1800 as a palace for King Louis XXX and he lived in this 24000 square foot mansion, designed by John Doe, until his execution in 1834 when the mansion was converted into a museum.

Robert walked past the metal detectors.

Metal is found in the earth in varying quantities. The periodic table of elements breaks down each different metal into simple components. There are alkalines and nonalkalines.

So this writing style was very annoying. Then it turned from fact into...

"Well how are we going to get out of this death trap, Robert?"

"Good question, Sophie. The markings on the top left corner of the death trap indicate that this trap was created by a tribe of genies in the 11th century. As you know, 11th century genies have a penchant for hiding anti-death pills in the walls according to the formula Q = 2x - square root of pi to the ninth power, using the number of people affected by the trap as the variable. This number equals 98.4, as you know, but that is not the trick. The trick is to subtract 17 from the answer to find out which brick the pill is behind, as any first year symbologist can tell you."

Then it kind of became more exciting for a while, until we find out that the bad guy is in fact the guy helping the two main characters, BUT his motivations do not change at all - they were more than happy to help when he was good, but now that he is "bad" they can't do it. And we obviously know that the answer lies in this one tomb that happens to be guarded by the brother of the female lead, who happens to be Jesus' great great great great great... granddaughter. AND the guy that does actually put hits on 5 people basically gets off scot free because he was a priest so he did not know any better.

I fucking loathe you Dan Brown.

What did you like about the book?

I thought The DaVinci Code was a friggen fantastic book! I've read all of Dan Browns books now and I would have to say that I enjoyed Angels & Demons better, only slightly.

So anyone out there that enjoyed DVC got and get yourselves a copy of Angels & Demons.

I really enjoyed The Da Vinci Code, and have been pleased for its success, but I think it may be getting too much. A film adaptation should be good, considering the right actors are hired. All the actors they're considering for Langdon don't suit him at in my opinion. I think Julie Dreyfus (Kill Bill Vol. 1) should be considered for the role of Sophie though. She'd be excellent.

The plot of The Davinci Code, and the mechanisms of the story are average at best...

What was interesting about the story was all backround info on The Catholic Church, secret societies, and all the other nuggets Dan Brown has dug up.

That needs to be included in the movie as much as possible, or else the movie will be a standard thriller....

BTW

I like Jean Reno as Fauche.

actually there was very little i didn't like about the book....

i'm very big into the whole "secret groups" aspect of the book because that is something that's always interested me.....especially now that after i've read DVC...i checked up on alof of the info myself and it seems that a lot of it isn't the amount of bullshit that some say it is ( or at least it doesn't seem to be)

i also liked to books views of mary magdalene.....this is something i had read about and thought a lot about prior to reading DVC....

i would write more...but it's 3:00 am and i have some movies to watch before bed....

will probably add more later,

Has anyone heard of any concrete news on this being made into a movie? Any directors express interest? Any distributors?

As for the book itself it looks interesting. Will definitely check out soon.

This IS being made into a movie. It's due for release in 2005. Ron Howard is directing it for Columbia Pictures, whilst Akiva Goldsman is adapting Brown's novel. No cast announced as of yet.

The last I heard there was hope for a Christmas 2005 release with filming supposed to start at the end of this year. But with Howard being busy until around Sept and then post production on his current film, I wouldn't be surprised if filming was delayed until early 2005. Still no cast.

I've heard this is definitely to be made & the director will be Ron Howard. From what I read, the rumored lead character was Al Pacino, not Russell Crowe, who I know is in Ron Howards next movie, Cinderella Man, or something like that. Some boxer movie.

I don't think Kate Beckinsdale would do it as it isn't a horrible action movie w/ vampires in it.

As for the book, I'm reading it soon. My fiance has bugged me to read the friggin' thing for so much, it better end up being the best damn book I've ever read. She won't shut up about it.

good book...but i dont know how well it will transfer to film!

...the plot is pretty thin...most of the book focuses on the art history/religious history! And...no one wants to watch long scenes with dialogue!

I also don't see Kate Beckinsale in the role. Russel Crowe can definitely pull it off!

btw...as for the authenticity of the facts...what he writes about is true...about the society and Da Vinci's "codes". I saw a documentary on Da Vinci's art and secret messages embedded several years ago before I read the book! There are a lot of books about the complexity of his art.

Also...if u read Da Vinci Code when he writes about the Last Supper....grab a picture of the painting and you will see every detail that is explained in the book! There is indeed a girl on the left side of jesus...and a picture of Da Vinci is also in the painting towards the end of the right side turning his face away from jesus!

Remember...the facts are true (society/da vinci's codes)...but it is the author's interpretation of these facts to feel in the blanks and create a story.

You've nailed it! Julie Dreyfus is Sophie! Stuff getting an English speaking actor to play the part with a French accent. I'm not sure about Robert Landgon character, maybe Dennis Quaid.

Robert Landgon isn't really a gun-ho style of person like Russell Crowe.

Julie Dreyfus...excellent choice...i was trying to think of a french actress that would be a perfect fit for Sophie's role and yah, Julie Dreyfus can and should do it!

i would like to see dennis quaid in the part of Langdon........but it's not gonna happen

it'll more than likely be russell crowe......which i'm not too enthused about....but i will get over that, as he is a good actor and can probably pull the part off well

also julie dreyfus would be much better than kate beckinsale

I could definitely see Angelina Jolie as Sophie Neveu. I read the book a couple of weeks ago, and I absolutely loved it! You just don't like it because it opposes the Christian church. Well guess what, its not only fiction, but it states that everything is made up except descriptions of the artwork and that group of Christians that the Bishop Aringastora (whatever) was in.

I couldn't see it translating well as a movie though.

I love this movie, and I'd definitely see a film version. I like Jolie too in that role. And as Langdon? It says he looks like a younger Harrison Ford. I can't really think of anyone. Crowe will probably be okay in the role though. What about Viggo Mortenson?
