Darth Vader or Darth Maul?

I'd have to go with Darth Maul. He has a much better fighting skill compared to Darth Vader and seemed so much more vibrant.

Any other opinions?

Vader is a lot more scary than Maul...
I shiver everytime i see his first appearance in ANH.
He has great fighting skills but in the Old trilogy, Vader is more a machine than a man (that's why he was "slow") but if there was a fight between Anakin and Maul, Anakin would easily win!

Exactly what I would say...

I loved Maul. I loved his look, his fighting style, and especially his lightsaber! But with almost no character development, he can't hold a candle to Vader. Too bad they killed him off, because he had real potential.

Yeah, he could have had some time for character development and since he was killed off, he won't be returning in the sequel.

But hopefully he'll return in the third movie as a clone or cyborg or something.

Yes, Maul definitely fought better but was stupid. I mean, he could hold off 2 Jedi with no problem, but then he just WATCHES as Kenobi does a huge leap and somersault and pick up the saber and land and then slash. C'mon!

Darth Vader is a better character and a better villain. And overall he's cooler. He is one of the coolest characters ever! I think Maul was great too, but he didn't have that presence Vader had. He was more like a servant of Darth Sidious and even if Vader was too, he didn't seem as obediant.

In all fairness, Darth Maul is somewhat hampered by only getting a few minutes of screen time and apparently not interesting Lucas enough to actually have any dialogue written for him.... but even so, Vadar's chillingly imposing presence, casual disposal of Imperial admirals, and oft-imitated-by-junior-high-school-kids breathing noise make him the hands down winner.

Darth Maul may be faster and have better fighting skills, but when it comes down to the best villain overall, you can't help but give it to Vader.

Maul was never really developed as a character in the movie - it was more of a "he-wears-dark-colours-and-has-evil-facial-expressions-so-he-is-a-villain" sort of deal, and that is what really ruined Episode I for me.

Vader is much more developed...you never know what he's going to do next, the atmosphere around him is terrific and he stands out as one of the most intriguing characters in all the first 3 trilogies.

Darth Maul has youth, agility, and a far superior (and much cooler) fighting style than Darth Vader. If I had to choose between facing Darth Maul or Darth Vader in a lightsaber fight, I'd probably choose Vader. Maul would cut me to ribbons in just a few seconds. (Of course, Vader would mop the floor with me too.)

But I'd say Vader is the overall better/cooler character. His fighting style may not be as good (slower), but he still kicks a lot of ass and appears to be very strong and intense, especially for an old guy. He's also got more control over the Force, is more patient, is physically strong, is very intimidating (more so than Maul in my opinion), and his costume is way WAY cooler than Maul's makeup.

Vader all the way. Both are cool, though. I wonder what a lightsaber fight between the two of them would be like.
