I hate films that are continued on the second disc or you have to flip for the rest of the film to watch. Can we get a list of films like these so I can avoid them until a better edition comes out?

So far I've got:

Goodfellas
Casino
Gangs of New York

Any others??

Schindler's List
all of the Lord of The Rings movies (extended editions)

Those features are on 2 discs, because they are incredibly long movies. I wouldnt skip them hoping for better editions though, since that wont happen.

All the movies I own only need one disc to fit on. No I don't mean that all the movies can fit on one disc I mean that each movie only needs one disc to fit on. Sorry if I created confusion.

Exactly. And I want to keep things that way. And also for other perhaps unmentionable reasons...

I won't mention Memorex's name.

But Titanic has the same running time as Schindler's List and that fits on one disc (I'm assuming on a dual-layer disc, but I didn't notice anything during the layer change...granted it's been ages since I watched that disc). Couldn't Spielberg have followed in Cameron's footsteps on this one?

As for the LOTR EE discs, I think the breaks between discs are in the perfect spots. The EE are almost twice as long as a "normal" length film, so having these breaks kinda emphasizes just how epic these films really are.

If it could've fit on one disc, then it would've been released on one disc. Does the TITANIC DVD have a DTS track? If not, this could explain why it fits on one disc. That takes up a lot of extra bits.

I think it is stupid that Schindler's List was made a flipper. How the hell could they not make it fit onto one fuckin' disk. There wasn't even a fuckin' commentary on it, plus flippers and duel sided disks look like crap and can get damaged much easier. I love the movie but this is the reason i refused to buy the DVD.

Simple laws of physics prevent it from fitting on one disc. It doesnt matter that theres not a commentary, there is a DD 5.1 track, and a DTS track, a Spanish 5.1 track, AND a French 5.1 track. That, plus the length of the film, and the bonus materials = too many bits to fit on one disc. Personally, I think they should've left off the DTS track, since this is a mostly dialogue driven film. Then it would've fit on one disc.
Whats really interesting, is that they put it on a flipper, instead of 2 separate discs. Generally, I think people would find 2 separate discs to be more "presitious" than a flipper. Plus, sometimes I take a DVD out of the player or case, and need to set it down quickly, so I always set it down on the label side.... but with a flipper, which side do you set it down on??

Either way though, youre going to have to get up off your butt during the movie to make a change.

I'm with you...they should've just left off the DTS track & maybe dumped all the extras onto a second disc. They easily could've gotten away with fitting the whole film onto one disc, IMHO. If they had to break it in half, they they should've gone the 2 disc route instead of the flipper...that way people with changers can watch the film without having to get off the couch (not that I'm one of them, but you know what I mean).

DTS = crystal clear sound that no other track can reproduce.

Actually, the Criterion Collection version of Spartacus has the 3+ hour film on one disc. It also has dual audio tracks, as well as two different audio commentaries, subtitles, and even a restoration demonstration extra of about a dozen minutes. With all that I still don't see the need for flippers or doubles.
