Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst? Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed both Spider-Man movies; however, I think that these two are absolutely the worst actors to grace a superhero type movie. Honestly, I cringed every time I saw them in the same scene and I don't understand how anyone could think Kristen is attractive. Tobey, on the other hand, constantly looks either confused or ready to cry. My main peeve of this movie is the fact that better actors could have been chosen for these two roles.

Also, what a brutal line at the end, "Go get 'em, tiger." Seriously, go away, Kristen.

I think they play their roles very well. They seem to have pretty good chemistry, and both are good looking people. As for the for the "Go get 'em, tiger" line, I loved it.

i think tobey is fine as peter
as for kirsten, she just needs to go away.

Tobey looks like a silly doll to me. But I'm fine with him, Spider-Man must be both a pussy and a hero, so that's what he is...

As for Kirsten, she's in my I-can't-stand-her league along with Nicole Kidman and Julia Hobbits, so I pretty much knew I wasn't gonna like her in the movie, but she wasn't even close to what I'd expected. She was worse. A lot more worse. No good acting, no good looks - bloody annoying.

I actually like them both. I think they are perfectly cast. I don't understand all the hating on Kirsten Dunst.

What is with the Kirsten Dunst hating? She did just fine, and she's pretty. A down to earthish pretty, but pretty.

As for Toby, he's the perfect choice for Spiderman/Peter Parker.

Part of my dunst hating is the fact that she seems like a dumbass...And hearing her speak is like nails on a chalkboard. "Like..." Honestly, I heard her speak in an interview a couple of times (to gauge if I was imagining her stupidity the first time), and I could not believe the amount of vocalized pauses... My GOD Woman, read something other than a script.

Plus she's a horrid actress. She can turn any character into someone you'd hate.

While I agree with you on the fact that I don't think she's the brightest individual around, I do think she's a pretty good actress. It seems she has pretty good range although she doesn't exercise it enough.

Sorry, I can't say that I agree. In my eyes they are perfect for their roles. Tobey plays Peter Parker perfectly. Kirsten Dunst makes a great and sexy Mary Jane. I love the cast, and wouldn't think of changing it... Especially now after they have been established in their roles so well now.

I'm not refuting that they don't fit the roles well on an acting level, I just don't like the way they look and I hate their acting characteristics.

A lot of people love 'em, I'm one of the few that can't stand them in any movie.

Yes, 'cause stupidity is SEXY!

I know why mary jane isn't in college. She's functionally retarded. That modeling thing is plan b.

I absolutely loathe both of them.

Tobey is undeniably good as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and he also impressed me in Wonder Boys. But those aside, he's one of the most uneven, one note actors in the business today and has that magic ability to sleepwalk through his roles and still get critical accolades. Bah! Plus, from what I've seen, he comes off as a prick in real life, which is also a turn off.

Kirsten Dunst is in my list of the actresses I just want to slap. Eternal Sunshine, Interview with the Vampire and Spider-Man 2 notwithstanding, the gal cannot act her way out of a paper bag. Drop Dead Gorgeous, Dick, Get Over It, and Bring It On were more than enough for me to stand her annoying, repetitive ditz act. From interviews, she seems like a complete idiotic airhead and she really needs to learn to dress her age. Plus, I think she's wholly repulsive appearance wise, but that's irrelevant.

Eternal Sunshine

I especially hated her in that movie.
Her character was not supposed to come off as an airhead.

I agree 100%, Hannibal21. To be honest, the only time I was able to see her on television without bitching about it was when she was in the Savage Garden music video, and that's because she didn't open her damn mouth.

Nice to see others are disgusted by the two.

I think they're both as close to perfect as you'll get for Peter and MJ. The only better choice for Peter might be (and it's a close run think) Jake Ghyllenhall, but I think Tobey nails the nerd side of Peter really well.

As for Kirsten, she's a great MJ (although I would have liked them to have gone with the Gwen Stacy angle and have her killed by the Goblin as per the comics, but I'm happy with how it's turning out so far). And the "Go get 'em, Tiger" line - perfect. She didn't get to say the classic "Face it tiger, you just hit the jackpot" line in the first one, and it would've sounded conceited if she'd said it now, but this was a great substitute and had this fan grinning all the way out of the cinema! :D

would've sounded conceited

Then she probably should've said it as conceited is one of movie mary jane's attributes.

Tobe is alright. I cant really complain about his performances in the films.

Kirsten on the other hand, is a completely different subject altogether.
I wont go off on a tangent, but I think she should have stopped acting after "Interview with the Vampire", if shes having that much trouble putting together sentences. Her potrayal of Mary Jane is a perfect example of everything souless, and wrong.

I think Tobey does a totally respectable if not outstanding job as Parker/Spidey.

Dunst is a meh. Nice rack though.

I think Toby MacGuire makes a decent Peter/Spiderman, but Kirsten Dunst is a nuisance. She is neither sexy nor talented. Her performances ring hollow in just about every film she's in. I had a much different vision of Mary Jane before the film was cast. She pretty much ruined that for me.

Im with you on all fronts. The two of them are great together and the way there relationship has grown on screen works perfectly in the movie.

At first, Tobey seemed a bit off on the Peter Parker tip, nut i got used to him, but in Spidy 2, he nailed it, as a matter of fact, to me its one of my favorite movies of all time, and is largely due to him.

As far as miss Dunst, I can't say that I hate her or that I like her. I'm just used to her now. I think she looks ok, and she does so-so in the role of MJ. She's one of those actresses that when they play the role, THAT'S when you can't stand them. Like they get the character and the character does something to piss you off, so then you don't like the person playing them. Ida know, maybe Im just rambling, but that's my take on it, Tobey="A", Dunst="B-"

I think Tobey is fine as Spidey. I have nothing against him the role.

Kirsten on the other hand is not suited to the role of MJ. She does come off as a bit of an airhead. I am used to her now as someone previously stated, but I think they could have gotten someone sexier for the role. A lot of people are saying she can't act, but I think she did a fantastic job in Interview With The Vampire.

I think Tobey potrayed Peter very well. However, I can't stand Kirsten and think she was a wrong choice for MJ.

I think both of them are great actors actually. Kirsten is pretty, ok a little on the confused side, but hating somebody because they appear mildly stupid is as stupid as you assume they are. It doesn't mean that when somebody uses words like 'like', punctuating every sentence, it makes them an idiot! Maybe she's a little too reminiscent of her teenage years. :D

if you look at it on the other side, why some actors go into the profession is because they are...well...to put it nicely, not as good at anything else. So I'm sure we can pardon their little disability.

Ah but I want to complain about some airheads who are too stupid to even be pardoned, aka a certain Simpson. Hmm, both Simpsons are fine with me too.

I agree, and I honestly hate it when people bash the "Go get 'em, Tiger," line because that's what the comic book MJ would say! Why bash the movie for being true to the comic? :(

I thought Toby was a great choice. Though I like how Dunst did in the movies, I wouldn't have minded to much to see a different actress in that role. Some scenes she was really pretty, and others she was just a dog.

I've got nothing against either Dunst or Maguire, I can think of some worse chocies. Dunst plays her role quite well I find as does Maguire although he doesn't seem to be putting his all into the part in places. Both are decent enough to carry the movies though.

I don't really mind Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, he did well to get into "superhero" shape for the spidermanfilms, he is kinda old....but it could really be worse.

Now....as for Kirsten Dunst, the only good acting she ever did was in Interview with the Vampire, every movie she does that requires any amount of serious acting makes her look like she has down syndrome or something....I remember going to see Spiderman in the theatre, and halfway through the movie realizing that she looks like a retard, and saying to the guy next to me that she looks retard, and he yelled out in the theatre full of people that " OHMY GOD, SHE LOOKS likea FUCKING RETARD!!" that did it for me, normally I hate whne a person says anything during a movie, but the two of us were laughing so hard, that we had to leave.

we later commented on the fact that had she and Peter parker had anykids they would be 8 legged, retarded spider babies.
