View Full Version : Butterfly Effect DVD
I know there's a director's cut, but does that only feature an alternate ending? I was hoping they would edit in some other scenes and whatnot.

Is the DVD that's out today the director's cut? Or is it just the original release?

I believe it's both. That's the beauty of InfiniFilm.

Would someone be nice enough to spoil the new ending? With warnings, of course.
I saw the movie, thought it neither very flawed nor great, so I'm not really sure I want to watch it again, but I would like to know the alternate end.

SPOILERS
in the alternate ending.....
When he is under the desk at the end.. he puts on a home movie.. so he can go back in time... in the theatrical edition he puts on a movie that takes him back to a birthday party to where he can threaten kaylie so they never becme an item, and he never ruins her life.
In the alternate ending the home movie is of his mother giving birth.. he goes back in time to the womb and he takes the ambilical chord and chokes himself to death. Thus he is never born!
(we had learned before in a deleted scene that his mother had 3 previous still births (aka giving birth to an already deceased infant))
Thats the end... he chokes himself, and is never born!
i personally LOVED this ending it was darker and better in my opinion!

I didn't like the Director's Cut ending. It was a good idea, but came off rather cheesy. I much prefer the theatrical ending.
ORIGINAL VERSION - 7/10 (B)
DIRECTOR'S CUT - 7/10 (B-)
I bought the DVD, a pretty cool disc in my opinion.

Gah! It is one of those 'dual-side' DVDs that can be easily scratched! Why didn't they just have an opinion in the beginning to switch between the Director's Cut and the theatrical run?
Good DVD, but I hate those types of DVDs.

Usually I'm very supportive of the director and how they want a film to be panned out, but this particular director's ending was by far the most corniest ending I've seen in ages. I literally stood up from my couch and started laughing. It was that ridiculous! The theatrical cut definitely had a lot more substance and was left rather open-ended.

I bought this on a blind buy based on a lot of really good reviews I've heard from friends/aquaintances. I was pretty impressed, it was a good movie, very entertaining, and as always Infinifilm did a nice job with supplementals.
p.s. I liked the theatrical ending better than the director's cut ending. Even though the whole thing was unbelievable/impossible, the D.C. ending was just completely outside the realm of possibility, an unborn baby selfaware enough to terminate itself... I just couldn't buy into it.

I loved this movie when I saw it at the cinema, and I just got this DVD last weekend. Having watched the director's cut, I actually think that both versions are equally good, but for different reasons.
The supplemental materials are pretty good too, though a little thin on the ground :), but from seeing the directors talk in them, I'm looking forward to listening to the commentary track.
A great movie, two great versions on the DVD, good extras (though would've like more!), and a solid 9.5/10 for the package as a whole. :)

This film has been my favorite so far this year and the directors cut just adds to it. It was an ending that really pulled the movie tighter together...and ended well, very touching to me. The original ending had me searching for meaning I dont think was ever there. Haven't checked out too much of the extras yet, but what I saw thus far wasn't too exciting.

Here's a movie that hit theatres in the notorious month of January, where Hollywood hell drops all of its bombs and reaps up a good profit on nearly every one because people are curious if movies will change since it is a new year. Despite receiving generally negative reviews and being well known as "the laughing stock" of Sundance Festival, it is actually not that bad. It stars Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart. Now Ashton has swept up plenty of money over the years, but he hasn't grabbed any Oscars or done anything worth noting as he is devoted to MTV's idiotic Punk'd, and took on the main role as a stoner in Dude Where's My Car. Director and writer J. Mackye Gruber doesn't have much credibility either, as he is responsible for the crappy blockbuster, Final Destination 2. So let's pretend they are both starting with clean slates, and the film hadn't tried to impress movie buffs (how it got to Sundance or who made that decision beats me, but that definitely was not the crowd for something that just barely stretches beyond what is considered "commercial"), we have one diamond that shines from the rest of the rough (shit). It is one of those TiVo-thriller genres I haven't seen in quite some time, and it has the style of "the beginning is the end". The neatest feature that the DVD offers is that you have the original Theatrical Edition AND the Director's Cut. At first, it seems like the editing for the Director's Cut was sort of excess, but by the ending, it all ties together in a tacky way. Personally, I liked the original version but both are interesting! Oh yeah, it is also an Infinifilm (love these and haven't had my hands on one since Rush Hour 2) and the cover has a sweet holograph that tries to deliver the message: BUY ME! The first viewing in theatres was great because I had expected the worst, and the second viewing is quite good too, but not as exciting. If you haven't seen this movie, buy it! If you have, rent it and check out the director's cut. By that time, you will be sick of it and it will be considered a blessing to get it off your hands when the rental time expires.
-> A Popcorn Licker (Kutcher you haven't redeemed yourself entirely or convinced me that you are a great actor. That being said, you are slowly turning your career in the right direction.)
Off my site www.cinematichell.blogspot.com i'd give it 7.5

Just got this DVD. What's really annoying about this is that on Region 1 there is a nice holographic Infinifilm cover but don't these stupid security tags annoy you, especially when there are three of them taping the whole dvd case?! One will do, even when the dvd is sealed in cellophane!
Then when I open it up there is a nice inlay card (becoming rare now aren't they?!) but the stupid disc is a flipper! Why do they make these stupid flippers still! What a let down on presentation of a great movie! It would have been nice to have a nice picture disc/s!
OK moan over... :)
