View Full Version : My rant on Mary Jane (not weed...heavens no!)

I saw Spiderman 2 a few days ago and absolutely loved it. Tobey was great, Dr. Oct kicked ass and I think the lady that played Aunt May should be nominated for an Oscar (Best Supporting Actress).
However, there was one certain cunt in the movie that really really really annoyed the ever-loving shit out of me. That would be Kirsten Dunst aka Mary Jane.
Dear Lord, where do I begin? What is up with her trying to be sexy? Remember the part where she is at the diner with Peter and she is gazing into his eyes? She has that stoned-faced, retarded stare that she is giving Peter. Was that supposed to be sexy cause it turned me the fuck off.
What the hell was this cunt's problem?! God, I wanted to jump out on screen and tell Peter Parker that this bitch aint worth it and you could do better.
If I was Peter Parker, here is what I would of told the cunt
Peter Parker: "Hey sorry I wasnt able to come to your play tonight. I sorta had to save a couple of lives on the way to the show. How about I just come to the next show."
Mary Jane: "You really let me down Peter. You told me you were coming tonight but you didnt. Harry has seen my play 6 times, Aunt May has seen it 3 times and you havent seen it once. I am done with and I am getting married."
Peter Parker:"Listen cunt, I tried to be nice but since you keep on insisting on being such an ungrateful bitch I am now gonna have to unleash it on your skank ass! I'M SPIDERMAN BITCH!!!! Yeah thats right I am the webbed one motherfucker! When you are acting in your worthless play, I am out there keeping the streets safe you stupid bitch."
Mary Jane: "Oh my God, llke wow!! That is totally awesome that you are Spiderman!! I like totally forgive you and stuff. You can take me out to dinner."
Spiderman: "What sweetie? Have you even listened to a single word I said? I'M SPIDERMAN BITCH!! That means I can get any fucking girl I want. So I am done with your skank ho ass...by the way, you are a shitty actress. Peace bitch!"
(then Peter Parker glides away, swinging from building to building later ending up at the Playboy mansion with 5 hot mamas)  :D
I know Sam Rami wouldnt of been able to put that in there, but hopefully its on the directors cut. LOL
One last thing that really rubbed me the wrong way with Mary Jane was when she ran out on her future husband at their fucking wedding. What the hell is up with that shit?! I mean damn, what kind of worthless spoiled cunt runs out on a wedding? That dude seemed like a pretty nice guy and didnt deserve that kind of shit. I bet that wedding probably costed a shit load of money too. If I was that guy I would probably hunt down Mary Jane's worthless ass and throw her off the Brooklyn Bridge, but thats just me.

Ditto.
her running out on john jameson was cowardly. i don't care how much you "love" someone else, you don't leave them at the altar. You don't want to marry him, tell him.
He did seem like a nice guy, which made it all the more pathetic of her. plus she's dumber than dirt and not pretty or nice.
So that begs the question... What did harry, john, and peter ever see in her? she should have ended up with flash thompson, that's a match made in dumbass heaven.

Maybe she'll die in the next one . . . . :)

Totally agree Tweek.
John Jameson even insisted on inviting Peter to the wedding:
"you should invite your photographer friend"
MJ "Nay, he is not really one of my friends"
or something along those lines. God I fuckin that character.

Well, at least the caviar wasn't wasted.
I've always thought that Kirsten Dunst would be a piss poor choice for MJ. After two movies, I haven't changed my mind. The ridiculous stuff her character says and does makes it even more painful.

The only thing that annoyed the hell out of me in this movie was the fact that anytime something "scary" happened, some girl on screen would scream bloody murder. After about the 4th time it happened my friend and I turned to each other and said "enough already". Then, after that we just laughed whenever it happened because it got so ridiculous.

Your not alone Freddy, you're not alone. I don't understand why people are baching Kirstey so much. I didn't see the actress on screen, I saw Mary-Jane Watson. Kirstey slipped into her shoes just fine. A lot of schmoes are making waaaaaaaay too much of a big deal over her character. She was fine. Kirstey was fine. Personally, I think that people just can't get over any bad performances of hers she may have had had in other movies and were thinking of those films when they entered "Spider-man 2." for Christ's sake, get over it, relax, and have fun! Duke Nukem,
I am not saying Kirtsen Dunst was the particular problem, however it was the actual character Mary Jane. You see, in the movie she comes across as a spoiled cunt and acts like a complete ungrateful bitch to Peter Parker.
Now I dont know if that is what Sam Raimi was going for but if it was he sure succedded because Mary Jane was far more annoying than Jar Jar Binks.
If I were the director, I would make Mary Jane every guys dream girl. Sweet, down to earth and of course drop dead gorgeous. Plus I definitely get a chick cuter than Kirsten Dunst.
Damn, I still cant get her retarded blank stare out of my head:mad:

As for her character in Spidey, when she ran out on J.J at the wedding (bitch), i was really, REALLY, hoping she'd trip and fall flat on her face, God knows she deserved it.
Even in the first Spidey movie i hated her. When Parker walked away from her during Osborne's funeral, and when i first saw the teaser trailer for Spiderman 2, where in both scene he told her he didn't love her, I loved it! Spoiled little bitch....Anyway, but that's just me...

If they do a movie that has Venom in it (they really should)and it doesn't have Eddie Brock down for Venom, I'll boycott the series. One thing I think that would be good for the Spiderman series is if it took a darker turn, like the same style of the first Batman. Venom would be the character to take the series there.

If i was spiderman I would beat the shit out of jonah jameson every time i walked into his office.
He would start yelling then i would take him in front of his employees and kick him in the face. Then the secretary would cut me a check for 50k.
then i would go to the apartment and beat up the landlord. Say i have the rent money and when he comes out say i lied and hes a piece of shit so when he starts yelling and acting tough i would then beat the shit in front of his friends and eat something out of his fridge.
heh, that is one of my favorite things with superheroes, when normal people give the superhero shit and they dont know the wo/man is a superhero and they end up getting their ass beat in.

Shit Tweek, for some reason I had John and Osborne's characters confused. My bad.
Yeah - he didn't really do anything to be fuckwad. His dad is most def. a fuckwad though. A funny fuckwad, but..... Well, for starters he tried to make money for the sake of defaming the hero of the story. That's a pretty fuckwad thing to do.
I couldn't say much about his offspring, except that John always stood there grinning all fuckwaddish-like.
Her leaving him at the altar had no effect on me -- I mean, can you possibly tell me a better way to leave someone at the altar? That's what being stood-up at the altar is all about. What was John going to say, "Oh you don't want to marry me? I guess that'll be okay."
And she is cool to me because it is her that gives Spidey his mojo, you know. Any gal who can give a cool dude his mojo is thereby deemed cool herself. It is the law of mojo realtions.

Oh, so not only does she leave him standing at the altar, she tells him, in front of all his family and friends, that she digs another guy more.
I can't speak for you, but that would have hardly made her more stand-up.
What about this -- She is going to get married, and then she starts hearing "Hero" by Creed being played on the pipe organs. She looks up and sees Spidey clinging to the pipes. He swings down, and whips her up. Then they run off together and get on a bus as Simon and Garfunkel "Sounds of Silence" start to play.
:D
In the comics it's deemed that he's jealous of spider-man and that's why he tries to destroy him
Jealously isn't a trait I like. Especially in a movie where the main character/hero does everything with very pure intentions.
I understand jealousy, but it's hardly an excuse to shit on someone else's life.

Damn you Tweek, and your poison keyboard too! You have ruined my comic book fantasy love. Now this might change the whole movie for me -- I mean, wasn't it cool at the end when she said "Go get 'em Spidey."
I mean, she was really cool in the last scene -- Isn't that alright? Love turned her around. I mean, Spiderman stopped fighting crime because he wasn't getting any -- that was pretty lame of him.

So you used the word 'cunt' six or seven times.. I guess that makes you really cool, huh? Or was it to compensate for the lack of a coherent rant?
I thought Mary Jane was fantastic.. the best thing about a mediocre movie. Peter was hiding his secret from her and was not giving her the full attention she deserved, and she felt confused and dejected. In this state of denial, she latches on to a rich handsome guy and quickly accepts his marriage proposal because she feels it will help her move on. However, she can't shake Peter out of her mind and has a gut feeling that the secret he's been hiding is that he's Spiderman. So she tries an upside-down kiss on her fiance and goes to try the same on Peter. Makes perfect sense so far.
I really thought she was acting in a logical manner but I had an awful sensation that she was going to freak out when she found out Peter's secret. But she didn't. She was completely understanding of his dilemna. And not just that, but she knew that if she wouldn't run away from the wedding to be with Peter, that she would be committed to this guy who she doesn't love and has only known for a very short while. Peter, too, wouldn't be able to concentrate on being Spiderman and would question the choice he made if he wasn't truly happy. So she does the sensible thing and ditches the douchebag at the altar to be with the guy she's known since she was a little girl and whom she knows she loves.
I thought Mary Jane was perfect, and Kirsten Dunst was the perfect choice to play her. Not only is Dunst fucking gorgeous, but she's a great actress too (see The Virgin Suicides and Interview With The Vampire) who is able to convey an array of emotions with just her facial expressions. She's a welcome change to bland one-dimensional characters like Harry Osborn and Aunt May and especially J. Jonah Jameson. The actor who plays him is terrible and the character is over-the-top at best and laughably bad at worst.

I don't understand why she looked like a washed up dish rag in this movie. In the first one her hair was really red and she looked "pretty", I don't think Kristen is particulary pretty. However, when I first saw the trailer and it showed that part in the restaurant she looked so nasty. She looked homeless or something. Her hair was less red and stuff. Like I thought she let herself go because of her love for Spidey, but that doesn't make sense because she's a stage actress and she's supposed to be pretty. Like when they showed that billboard in the movie of her. She did not look pretty she looked stoned. And don't get me started on that brown dress she wore with that hat? That hat made her look like a wannabe rastafarian. Not cute. She looked pretty on the movie poster though. And that was only because her hair was in her face

My point about her being 12 in interview with the vampire is: Look where her career has gone... Scattered "good" performance, mostly crap.

"Hey, don't you think Uma Thurman is a great actress?"
"Give me some proof of her acting ability"
"How about Pulp Fiction?"
"Um, she was 24"
Yeah, because comparing Uma Thurman to Kirsten Dunst is a fair comparison... [/sarcasm]
And Mary Jane was plenty one-dimensional in both movies.
All she did in the second movie was whine to peter, use a crappy british accent, and leave a guy at the altar.
What did the character do to get any sort of empathy?
The attention she deserved? Why should she be numero uno on his list?
"Ms. Brant! Get me a violin"
"Oh, well how about Henry & June then?"
"Haven't seen that"
"You're fucking right. She's shit!!"
The bit I said about the virgin suicides wasn't any part of my argument. I don't plan on seeing it because of Dunst, and because I've heard it's really depressing. Don't need that right now.
Just like I don't need (or want) to argue about our differing opinions on Dunst.
you think she's a good actress, i don't
you think she's hot, i don't.
By the way, J Jonah Jameson has always been pretty one dimensional.
Aunt May had more depth than in the first movie...
Harry... I might give you that. I hope he pulls off the green goblin's insanity well, if green goblin 2 is in a future flick.

I know! She's only had a leading role in two of the highest grossing movies of all time and is set to appear in the new Cameron Crowe film next year. You hate to see someone throw their career to waste like that.

Because Peter was lying to her. I think that's as good a reason as any. He was being dishonest about who he really was. Only when his secret was put out into the open (unintentionally, mind you) was there nothing to hide between the two. She then decided, before committing to another man, that she would rather take the risk and be with Peter. Compared to the other scenarios of either staying in a relationship with someone she didn't love, or possibly getting a divorce years down the line, I thought it was perfectly understandable that she would leave before any vows were spoken.
Anyway, I'd be more receptive to your argument that she's a bad actress if you'd seen The Virgin Suicides, in which she gives her most textured performance to date. But since you haven't seen it, and refuse to give it a chance..
Well, let's just say who do you think has the more informed opinion on Nicolas Cage? Someone who's seen Adaptation, Leaving Las Vegas and Matchstick Men? Or someone who's seen Gone In 60 Seconds and Snake Eyes?

Two of the most successful films... I'd give you that if they were a first movie and the sequel.
And I was referring to the types of roles.
Honestly, Keanu Reeves was in the matrix, one of the biggest money making series ever. Does that make him a good actor?
She's done a ton of movies, but so have plenty of crappy actors.
and the major reason I won't give the virgin suicides a chance because when i listen to a depressing song or movie, it influences my mood. and a movie where people kill themselves is probably not going to be good for me.
ah yes, one movie i haven't seen of hers and my opinion is thrown out the window.
and that cameron crowe movie is also starring orlando bloom and jessica biel... which makes a trifecta of crap.
Compared to the other scenarios of either staying in a relationship with someone she didn't love,
Except she could have broken up with him BEFORE the wedding.
BEFORE.
Yes Peter was lying to her, but with good reason. He thought she'd be in even more danger.
Or he just didn't think her functionally retarded brain could handle it.

I'd add Crazy/Beautiful to the list of great Kirsten Dunst performances.

You just reiterated my point. Ofcourse you'll think an actor or actress sucks if you haven't seen their most acclaimed work. Lemme guess, you'll skip on Elizabethtown because you hate Bloom, Dunst and Biel and then bash her again after people start to praise her performance in that one.
And as far as I remember, Spidey saved her and revealed his identity at night, and the next morning was the day of the wedding. I don't recall a long period of time where she could've thought it over and canceled the wedding. Earlier, she asked Peter if he loved her and he lied and said he didn't. Not. Her. Fault. Infact, when Mary Jane and Peter were in the restaurant and Doc Ock comes swooping in, he assumes that she is his girlfriend and kidnaps her. At that point, they were 'just friends'. So since enemies of Spiderman will always try to harm the ones he loves, it doesn't really make a difference whether Peter and Mary Jane are a couple or not. What she did was perfectly logical since they had nothing to lose by being together. Does that make sense to anyone? I think it does. Mary Jane rules. So does Kirsten Dunst.

1) She's perdy...Mmmm....
2)I think she does an alright job with the bitchy character she was given. IMO, when I watch a movie, I don't base how good an actor is on how he's done in other movies, I base it on the one I'm watching.

How is that a good reason for them to be couples? Because it doesn't matter if they do or don't? Sure sounds like love to me.
MJ : Should we start dating?
PP (Thinking): So my enemies will always try to harm the ones I love, it doesn't really make a difference whether me and Mary Jane are a couple or not...
MJ: Well?
PP: Eh, why not.

WOW, its seems that I have awakened and angered the President of the Kirsten Dunst Fan Club (BaketheMooCow) LOL
Yeah Bake I used the word cunt a lot in the rant so what? Thats what Mary Jane is a spoiled skany cunt. You must have not gotten the memo.
And no offense but at least I didnt use those gay little hearts after every one of my posts. Jesus Tap Dancing Christ what the hell is that?!?!?!! <3 <3 <3 ?!?! ROFLMAO!
I am great you feel Kirsten Dunst is the most gorgeous girl on the planet. However, the vast majority on here think she was a worthless and very annoying character.
If she liked Peter so much then why couldnt she say anything? Why does Peter have to do everything? Its 2004, girls can make the first move dude.
By the way man, if you think people were lining up opening weekend to see Kirsten Dunst tackle the role of Mary Jane then you're living in fantasy land. People paid to see Spiderman and Doc Oc dook it out.

I didnt use those gay little heartsThat's very mature. I'm wondering whether to take anything seriously from a guy who uses "gay" as an insult.
Anyway.
I never said people were lining up to see Kirsten Dunst. But she landed one of the hottest female roles for young actresses, so that is some indication of her talent. And Cameron Crowe has made stars out of Renee Zellweger and Kate Hudson, so its not just anyone who gets these coveted roles.
I am great you feel Kirsten Dunst is the most gorgeous girl on the planet
You are great that I feel...? Wha....?
I think she's beautiful, I never said she's the hottest girl on the planet.
If she liked Peter so much then why couldnt she say anything? Why does Peter have to do everything? Its 2004, girls can make the first move dude.
Guys can also be honest with girls and expect them to be independent enough to make choices for themselves, instead of lying because they feel the need to 'protect' them from the truth. After all, it is 2004, as you so brilliantly observe.

actually, i never bashed the virgin suicides or her performance in that movie. i'm not going to be seeing elizabethtown, so i'd have no right to bash her performance.
i'll still bash on her because she's stupid. which is a good reason to bash on anyone, in my book.
her performance as mary jane also makes me sad because i like the comic book character and felt her perfomance wasn't even close.
I'd add Crazy/Beautiful to the list of great Kirsten Dunst performances.
oh i did not like that movie. not just because of dunst.
Although I don't think we can debate if Parker should've or shouldn't have told her, because I guess nobody could no unless you were a superhero.
But look at it this way Bake, would you tell the love of your life if you were a male hooker? Not exactly the same thing but ...ya know...
And I don't think that telling the girl of your dream that you're a superhero, and there's a big chance that she'll get hurt/killed if she dates you is as easy as you make it out to be Bake.
But hey, that's just my opinion.
