Anyone other than Kate Beckinsale and Russell Crowe. Please. So long as it isn't them, it can't be that bad...
I'd like to see Quaid do it as well. As for the female role...not a clue at the moment.

Dan Brown wants Ralph Fiennes to play the lead, and I tend to agree with him. The two names I’ve heard for the part of Sophia are Sophie Marceau, who would be probably ok, and Franka Potente, who I would much rather see in the role. I loved her in Run Lola Run.
As for names like Harrison Ford, Russell Crowe, Kate Beckinsale...I think they’re too big of stars to be right for the parts. People like Fiennes, Marceau and Potente I think are much more appropriate because they aren’t unknowns, but they aren’t huge Hollywood stars either, and I think they could make the characters their own better than bigger stars like Ford and Crowe do. When I see Langdon on the screen, I want to see Langdon, not the Hollywood’s biggest celebrity pretending to be Langdon.
(And yes, I know Kate Beckinsale, of course, isn’t anywhere near as big as Ford or Crowe, but she still strikes me as very much Hollywood; star first, actress second.)
As for Fache, when I read the book, I had Tchéky Karyo pictured in my mind, and I think he’d be perfect for the part. Jean Reno would also be an excellent choice, but I’d go with Karyo.
I pictured Carel Struycken playing Silas when I read the book, but I’m sure there are better actors out there that could do loads with this part.
Finally, Teabing. I pictured Laurence Olivier playing the part when I read the book – the kind of character he portrayed in Sleuth, to be more specific. Unfortunately, of course, Sir Laurence has passed away. I think Tom Courtney would do a wonderful job with the part, but probably the perfect living actor for the role is Peter O’Toole.

This seems like it will be a big-budget movie with big budget stars. I say Russel Crowe and Angelina Jolie. The mentor/historian guy could be played by Ian Holm - not the biggest name but he's in everything.

I love these choices. Sophie Marceau would be simply perfect for the role of Sophia, I have a feeling Brown wrote the book with her in his mind.
The trio of Ford, Crowe and Quaid does not look appealing to me. Ford is a bit too old for the role (though it doesn't make him a worse actor); Crowe is a typical Hollywood pig, and he's the last person I would want to see as Langdon; as for Dennis Quaid, I don't have much against him, but not much for either, I think he just doesn't look like Langdon to me.

That's what I'm afraid of. If they ruin this movie by sticking Tom Cruise in as Langdon and Cameron Diaz in as Sophia (that one's an exaggeration, but you get my drift), I'll be pissed.

Hi, I have just created a small site where everyone can vote who would be the best actor to play R. Langdon.. Somehow I do not feel comfortable with T.Hanks... have a look and give your vote!
Personally I think Kevin Costner is the best...

First off, let me say that I'm only three or four chapters into the book, so I'm not exactly sure what I'm talking about, and, on a sidenote, that I don't see what the whole hoopla about the book is (but I'm guessing I'll know later on, because so far shit has JUST hit the fan).
I can see Tom Hanks as Langdon. Ralph Fiennes would work too, but Hanks will do just fine for me.
Apparently they got Jean Reno as Bezu Fache, which is a terrific choice. The only French actors the world knows are him, Karyo and Depardieu -- Karyo can't act and Depardieu won't fit. Reno can act and looks pretty much how I pictured Fache in my mind, so that's good.
As for Sophie Neveu, I'll go with some French actresses: Sophie Marceau, Laetitia Casta, Virginie Ledoyen, Eva Green, Marion Cotillard, or Hélène de Fougerolles. I know they're not the best known actresses in the US (some of them are) and, granted, they don't all look alike, but these are, in my opinion, the best actresses in that age range that we have. And they could all pull off that part easy.

Isn't Julie Delpy campaigning pretty heavily to try to snag the Sophie Neveu role?

I didn't mention her, but damn, I hope she is. She's also terrific -- can't believe I forgot her (although I'm sure I forgot a bunch of perfectly fine actresses).
