Ok this is a quick rant that will probably appeal to no one..but I need to get it off my chest. I live here in Miami, FL and I understand there's a large Hispanic population down here, but what I saw today really got on my nerves.
I was having a good time watching The Simpsons when during the commercial break they showed a trailer for the new Hillary Duff crapfest A Cinderalla Story. Instead of the usual "movie trailer guy" voiceover...they had a young woman doing it. All was fine until she said "This princessa story will make all your dreams come true." Princessa?? ummm ok. I found it strange but not that big a deal.
Later on they showed a new preview for Catwoman. While I was watching it, amazed by how shitty it looks, I was thrown off guard once again. This time the deep voiced movie trailer guy said "They thought they got rid of her...they were wrong. Now she's something even more powerful...La Gaticaaaaaa" At first I was laughing hysterically because of the way he said gatica, but then I started to wonder what's going on here.
Why are the studios doing this? Do they think throwing in 1 line of spanish to give it some "latin flavor" will make more people see the movie? I know it might not seem like a big deal to a lot of people but besides sounding dumb, I just found it to be slightly offensive. Is this happening anywhere else??
