View Full Version : "Vannila Sky" looks AMAZING!
I just saw the previews to VANILLA SKY for the first time on TV and it looks GREAT. I was surprised by the previews, I thought the movie would be just a romantic drama but I guess I was wrong. It looks excellent. I can't wait for this one.
It does look very good....pretty scary stuff in there.
That Michael Myers mask that Cruise wears, cause his face is mashed up, looks haunting enough.

I thought it looked pretty good as well. I saw the trailer for it when I saw 13 Ghosts two Sundays ago.
The performances look really good, especially from Cameron Diaz, whose role is a little darker than she is accustomed to. Tom Cruise is in a car wreck, I think caused by Diaz over jealousy of his relationship with Penelope Cruz' character and all.
But, yea it does look damn good.

I thought it only looked alright. The trailer didn't do much for me. Yeah, the Times Square shot was cool, but big deal. I thought the music TOTALLY didn't fit the eerie feel they were going for. And i hate Penelope Cruz, so that just added to the mess. But ill still see it because of Cameron Crowe and of course, Jason Lee.

It looks good, but if you've seen the trailer for OPEN YOUR EYES (of which this movie is adapted from), you'll realize almost every scene in the trailers is identical..... I'll definitely be in line for this film though http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

I was originally not interested in this movie but after seeing the preview yesterday I'm now very interested. This movie looks good, I'm interested in seeing Cameron Diaz in a darker bad guy role, I'll check this one out in the thearters.

I don't think so, the movie looks like shit...almost a rehash of Fatal Attraction.

Trust me -- if it's anything at all like Abre los ojos (and by all early accounts, it appears to be rather similar), it's most definitely not a rehash of Fatal Attraction.
It's a rehash of Abre los ojos. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I can't wait to see this movie if only for Cameron Diaz. Did you see her in the previews? She looks awesome in this one! I've always wanted to see her play a darker role.
Penelope Cruz is overrated in my opinion, but I'll check it out anyway.

I think it looks to be a very good film. Not "AMAZING" but to each, his own, right.

I think people will be dissapointed with the film. Just like the film it was remade from, known in the USA as "Open Your Eyes" the ending leaves alot to be desired and comes out of left field.

Vanilla Sky would have been better if it wasnt an adaption. But it is so it shouldnt get all the credit. I think i worded what i emant wrong but i think you get the point.

It's gonna' be tuff for it to beat Open Your Eyes, the film it's based on. Open Your Eyes was an amazing film, that had me shocked, disturbed, and scared at times. Great film.

I like the fact that Cameron Crowe is bringing the story to audiences with a much wider scope. Putting Tom Cruise in the starring role gives the film much appeal. I guarantee not many people have seen Abre Los Ojos. Including myself, but regardless of whether this is an adaption or not, I will see it. Cameron Crowe is a damn good writer, and a damn good director. I trust him in bringing the story to the screen without screwing it up. The trailers look SWEET, ESPECIALLY that shot of Times Square.
To all of those who think this year has sucked royal (you know what), I think it might turn out to be real good after all. Optimism, optimism I tell you.

Cameron Crowe didn't choose Tom Cruise to play in the movie.
Tom Cruise chose Cameron Crowe to direct the movie and he accepted only if he could re-write the screenplay.
Cameron is usually pretty good so I'm looking forward to this movie.
I was watching COMING ATTRACTIONS on E! and I saw the FULL trailer and I must say it looks excellent, I can't wait to see it.
If it weren't for Cameron Crowe, I wouldn't have the slightest bit of interest in a movie that stars three of the most annoying actors ever. Blech!

Vanilla Sky looks intriguing......the main reason I want to see this film is for Cameron Diaz, her performance looks totally different than what we are used to seeing her as, the bubbly dumb blonde. Plus Cameron Crowe directed it, and after Almost Famous last year I forgive him for that overrated bore Jerry Maguire.......
I'll definetly check out Vanilla Sky.......however I would probably be more ecsatic about the film if Penelope Cruz wasn't in it........

I never said Crowe chose Cruise to star in the movie. All I said was that "it is good that Cruise has the lead role, because it gives the film more appeal to audiences." Not one word referred to Crowe picking Cruise!

I like the music in the trailer. It's fuckin' catchy as hell. I like watching the trailer online if only to hear the music in it.

*shrug* Open Your Eyes didn't exactly have a killer plot either...don't see that there's gonna much point in seeing Vanilla Sky.

This movie does look great. What's up with all this Tom Cruise-bashing though? Dammit why does everything good have to be rated R?

That's definately on my Christmas list http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif.
VANILLA SKY opens Friday, I think it looks amazing but unfortunately my theater isn't getting it (I know, I was shocked too). I saw a new preview for it last night that says what the critics thought of it and it had some new scenes I hadn't seen before, particularly the one in the club with the mask, I think it was a club anyway. But WOW, this movie sure looks like one wild ride. It's supposed to have a big surprise ending, they say it's the ending "You Don't Want To Give Away." And I'm a sucker for surprise endings so that makes me want to see it even more. I hope I'll get to check it out in theaters, I'll sure try to go. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone else thinks of it.
Who's going to go see it this weekend?

I'm not a big fan of remakes, I prolly won't see it. Usually remakes are horrible, but you never really know.
the remake for "The Ring" is making me scared. Nothing can beat the Japanese version and Sadako...... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I sure had high hopes for Vanilla Sky, especially since I'm a fan of Cameron Crowe's (especially Almost Famous (10/10)) and I thought the previews looked good (especially Cameron Diaz). I saw it tonight, and I think it's one of the biggest disappointment of the year. Cameron Diaz was good, but she was not in the movie nearly long enough. In fact, the trailer pretty much showed all of her in that movie! Tom Cruise is better than usual, and Penelope Cruz and Kurt Russell are both good in their supporting roles. The movie, however, is over-long and boring. It seems like an hour-and-a-half movie dragged out to two-and-a-half hours. The ending is probably the worst part. It doesn't match the rest of the movie. Hell, it isn't even of the same GENRE as the rest of the movie. Ugh.
Big disappointment. See Ocean's 11 (9/10) instead. I expected that one to suck, and it turned out to be great. As for Vanilla Sky...
4/10

Personally I think it's quite amazing. Definitely more entertaining than Almost Famous and much deeper than Jerry Maguire.
Compared to 2 other decent films about dreams/illisions, Vanilla Sky is not as good as Waking Life (my favourite film of the year SO FAR) and it's much more likeable than Mulholland Drive which still annoys me on this day.
You can tell that Tom Cruise has complete faith in Cameron Crowe, and he definitely delivers one of the best performances of the year. Cruz, Diaz, Lee, and Russell are all terrific as well http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Vanilla Sky can make you feel.... high i guess.

9/10 I think, definitely one of the top 5 films I've seen this year. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif But somehow I feel other moviegoers might not agree with me. The guy who sat beside me in the theatre kept looking at his watch and yawning, hmm, I guess some mainstream peeps might find this film to be too weird, challenging, and overlong.
Anywayz I love it, and I find this film to be much more magical than sayyyyyyy Harry Potter? (Sorry IDDude) http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
