does any schome think that some movie will beat shrek 2 this year. I mean spiderman 2 is doing good numbers but i dont think it will outgross the original or outgross shrek 2. is there any movie that possibly has a chance of beating shrek 2 at the boxoffice?

Hasn't "Spiderman 2"?

Spider-Man 2 is the only movie with a single shot. I'd only give it a 20% chance, though, or less.

Let's break down the holiday season:

Alexander? No. Incredibles isn't coming out in the summer, so not a single shot in hell.. Polar Express? No. Lemony Snicket? No. Spongebob? Hell no.

So Shrek 2 will be number one, in all likeliness.

Spiderman 2 is the only film that has a chance. 40/60 are my odds for it to beat it. I'm however near certain Spiderman 2 will cross 400million.

Box Office wise, no.

Spidey 2 will get close, but I don't think it has the long legs of Shrek 2.

If Spider Man2 hits the $400M mark I would be surprised. NO WAY ANY MOVIE will beat Shrek 2.

It's highly unlikey but the Incredibles might POSSIBLY have a chance.

Although the time of the year doesn't help, the film is getting it's fair share of publicity 4 months prior to release.

Well, considering what a weird year boxoffice-wise, with films under or overperforming but never living up to expectation, it may be possible. But spidey 2 is not gonna be it. Maybe The Incredibles... and the only other film I see with a glimpse of a chance is The Village... but it should be oscar-caliber to gross that.

So, the answer if my money was involved would be NO.

Incredibles doesn't stand a chance. If it was summer a la Nemo I would give it a distant possibility, but this will not have the weekdays of Nemo and slightly weaker drops. I would love to see it happen, though.

The Village will only come $175 million within Shrek 2's territory if it is considered one of the best movies ever made.

I think we can all safely say Spidey is the only one that has a chance at this point.

If it hasn't already, I think Spiderman-2 will do better than Shreck-2.
Just one man's opinion, of course.

Treasure Planet? That came out two years ago and it bombed hard.

Shark Tale we can safely scratch off the list, I think, being released in October.

Huh?

Anyway I still believe, with all due respect to Shrek, Spidey will kick the green ogre's ass! I (to paraphrase Vince McMahon) guarantee it!

I think Spidey's chances are dead now. If it dropped under 40% last week, it would have had a chance, but now it will have to have a large multiplier from here on out it to even pass $400 million. Shrek 2 has the possibility to end over $440 million.

Do the words Monsters Inc. mean anything to you, Lyrik?

Of course, Incredibles still wont beat Shrek 2 (it might though) it will be out over Christmas break, and seems to be the only thing of mention out.

I dont think anything will touch Shrek, sadly. Potter's numbers I found to be disappointing, considering the numbers of the previous 2.

Spider-man's box office numbers also look a little pale compared with the original's.

It really scares me that Shrek 2 quite possibly could outgross E.T. Oh my fucking god. Who the hell is seeing this fairly enjoyable fluff more than once? Holy shit.

Compared to the first two, the studio has to be concerned. Each one is grossing less and less. They obviously are far from failures, but I'm sure WB wants to see the totals going in the opposite direction like The Lord Of The Rings.

Yes. In fact, I am largely basing my predictions for Pixar's next film on it. Monsters Inc. did not have the weekdays of Nemo. It's average drops were the same as Nemo, but followed different patterns. I think Incredibles will follow Nemo's opening, but the adjusted gross for Monsters Inc. (which is over $280 million). Basically a $72 million opening, a 30% drop, a 50% drop (due to Spongebob and Polar Express opening on the same weekend), and then anywhere from a 15% decrease to a 5% increase.

Garden State, Manchurian Candidate, Fahrenheit 911, Anchorman, Metallica: Some Kind of Monster, Supersize Me, The Seed of Chucky, Napoleon Dynamite.

In other words, pretty much all of em.

I'd like to see Spiderman2 take over Shrek 2 but I don't know if it will happen. Spiderman 2 is averaging a little less than 10$ million each week now.

Shrek 2 got to 400$ million in only 43 days! Incredible! Spiderman is at around 340$ million (i think) and it's been in for a pretty long time.

So...no one is catching Shrek 2.

Garden State is not going to be a particularly wide release and didn't have a really HUGE opening in the big cities this week. Manchurian Candidate opened with only $20 million, not nearly enough. Fahrenheit 9/11 is well past it's peak and is "only" at $105 million. Anchorman is going to only make $80 million at this point, again, not nearly enough. Metallica: Some Kind of Monster? Maybe $5 million at best. Super Size Me, did that even crack $10 million? The Seed of Chucky? Chucky's audience is not wide, it will probably be rated R, and it has a lack of hype. Napoleon Dynamite is a nice indie hit, sure, maybe a $20 million run, but it's probably peaking now.

What gives you the impression any of these movies will come $330 million within Shrek 2's gigantic $435 million run?

i dont think spider man 2 is gona catch up with shrek 2.i mean shrek 2 already made about $436 million and spider man 2 made about $350 million.it would be a miracle if sm2 catches up a pretty good fucking miracle.

No movie will beat Shrek 2 this year.

I don't think any movie will beat Shrek 2 for a long time. It would have to be something very amazing.

If I'm wrong, I will be very surprised. This summer hasn't been too great so I don't see how it can improve when Christmas comes.

Well, keep in mind that Shrek 2 has been out for some time now, all I was saying is that if other movies are out that long, they COULD beat it.

The first movie to beat Shrek 2 is going to be REVENGE of the SITH. Until then, don't get your hopes up.

Umm... That won't be released until next year.

This post only refers to movies released in 2004, not 2005.
