Emmy Nomination a Big Deal for Trump

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Add "Emmy nominee" to the star-studded, big-bucks resume of Donald Trump.

The real estate developer's star turn in "The Apprentice" helped the show gain a nomination in the reality-competition category. And while Trump has learned not to be surprised by anything that has happened in his TV career, he was also tickled pink to learn Thursday that he'd been nominated.

"It's a great honor. All my life I watched the Emmy ceremonies, but I haven't thought in terms of Emmys," he said. "I'm in the real estate business. I grew up building buildings, not doing television."

Trump acknowledged that he didn't know much about the television business before he got the call from "Apprentice" executive producer Mark Burnett. But he also realized pretty quickly that "The Apprentice" would turn out to be something special.

"There are so many other people that started off with me in the television business a year ago," Trump said. "Now they're all off the air now, and here we are, getting an Emmy nomination and having the No. 1 show."

It's quite a change for someone who already has a full-time job as a real estate magnate. Burnett originally told him "The Apprentice" would be a three-hour-a-week commitment at most; it's gone way beyond that, not only with the first production and promotion of the first season but also the production of the second, which is well under way.

How would an Emmy award rank if he won?

"This would be right at the top," he said. Trump has already reserved time on his calendar to attend the ceremony. He attended as a guest about five years ago.

There is one nomination that Trump was disappointed not to get, despite NBC's Emmy campaign: "I'm devastated that I didn't get nominated for best hair and makeup," he joked when asked about the campaign. "Do they have awards for hair and makeup and stuff? You know, I feel very badly that I didn't get nominated for hair and makeup."

Me too. This guy's ego is unbearable. He'll be running for president next- he's starting to make political noises. Imagine, first lady Melania. :D
