Dolores Jane Umbridge...what did you think of her?

I've read quite a few complaints that J.K. Rowling needs to work on her villains, that Voldemort was a Darth Vader rip-off and that Umbridge was a cartoon.

Personally I thought Umbridge was a great character...she may have been completely and totally evil, but J.K.'s obvious aim was to have a character who the audience would just hate, she totally succeeded. Umbridge is one of my favourite characters because I absolutely LOVE to HATE her, she makes me want to put my fists through a wall. She deprives Harry of all his pleasures and though she is the evillest bitch to ever cross this series, Umbridge gets what she wants pretty much 90% of the time. I can't wait to see what is done with her in the future...absolutely fucking fantastic character! I liked her much more with the second read of Phoenix as well.

What did you guys think of Professor Umbitch?

As a villian, I thought she was pretty mediocre. I just finished Order of the Phoenix and I felt that the pace was not fast until they were headed toward the Department of Mysteries. After that point, it is smooth sailing.

The reason I did not like her was because she felt like the principal in Matilda. She was two-dimensional and was overly predictable. She always did the action that would make Harry Potter maximally unhappy. And after about 300 pages of that, it gets pretty old.

I liked the book...i just didn't like any scenes that had Umbridge in it.

I loved Prof. Umbridge. She was such an unpleasant character. From her look to her actions, she had you hating her in every chapter.

i think Umbridge is a fantasic character, mean as hell i thought she was great. The cruel things she did to harry like the inscription of 'i will not tell lies' on his body was fantasicly horrid. I sat there reading it thinking 'Why i oughtta...'

I think on the Voldemort front we need to see a few more displays of nastiness and cruelty from him. Most of it is memory and rumour. But i suppose JK cant write too much horrible stuff about what he does, after all her main target audience are children.

Rowling was on the money in illustrating this woman in the book
I kinda picture someone like Helen Mirren playing her in the movie if I played a role in casting.......

Her trademark that Umbridge does makes me wanna throw this at her... :D

helen mirren is a fantastic actress and does excellent cruelty---check out Teaching Mrs Tingle for that. But isnt umbridge short and kinda larger than helen mirren. I think this part might call for an unkown actress, i can't think of anyone that fits the description.
