A relatively uneventful week of new releases saw hardly any change in the top 5 as all of last week's top hitters remained in tact. SPIDER-MAN 2 only dropped off 36% in its second week to a nice $4,591,550, which takes the action sequel to a profitable $16,702,710 (US $176,563,207). SHREK 2 continues to soldier on with a 4th week intake of $4,257,541, which pushes the almighty ogre to an astonishing $42,263,132 (US $446,760,683), more than securing its position as the Highest Grossing film of 2004 so far, and sitting at #7 of the All Time Chart. Another sequel doing its part is HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN which had no change over the weekend managing $1,724,351, taking the films total to $29,979,399 (US $316,910,180). Lindsay Lohan and the Olsen Twins also had a good weekend with the luscious legals respectively dropping only 7% and rising 7% with MEAN GIRLS and NEW YORK MINUTE. The black comedy has so far scored a decent $6,358,263 (US $67,212,764), whilst the tweenie Big Apple adventure has racked up $1,858,716 (US $19,648,359). Poor word of mouth and lacksture promotion played their part against the two major releases of this week, the horror flick GODSEND and the 'comedy' sequel THE WHOLE TEN YARDS. The Robert DeNiro starrer managed $530,186 (US $5,604,560), whilst the Matthew Perry/Bruce Willis reunitement mustered up $490,283 (US $5,182,748). After 9 weeks in release, Wolfgang Petersen's TROY is still hanging around and only saw a 20% decline this passed weekend. All up, Brad and Bana have battled audiences out of $23,140,261 (US $244,614,119). Horror flick DAWN OF THE DEAD looks to have lost its life in the Top 20 with it slipping 63% and 8 places. It will go out around the $2,794,015 (US $29,535,341) mark. Rouding out the charts this week was the other new release in cinemas over the weekend, the barely promoted but well cast THE SINGING DETECTIVE which, on 11 screens, rounded up $34,185 (US $361,367).
THIS WEEK (July 15th): Keira; Kidman; Kilmer.
