Wow, this news is very sad. He will forever be a legend. He contributed so much to the films he scored. His scores were so great and beautiful and amazing and he could never be replaced. Even though he did not like to watch horror films, his horror scores could not be beat. He should have won more Oscars then what he did. He will be greatly missed.

Damn, this is sad--I just found out about a minute ago! :(

What a great man, and what a phenomenal composer: His score for The Omen is just...I can't even describe it!

Good night, Sweet Prince. And a flight of Angels sing thee to thy rest. (Brownie Points to whoever can tell me where that's from, and who said it.)

Ahhh, this sucks. He was one of my favorite film composers.

"Gremlins", "Poltergiest", "Alien", "The Omen".......he was one of the greats, on par with John Williams IMO.

R.I.P.

A great composer always going along with the tone of the movie. Different styles, different atmospheres, always memorable.

Goldsmiths best theme is from Total Recall i.m.o but the score for Alien, Planet of the Apes, Gremlins and others will forever live on as a legacy to the greatest composer ever...

He will be sadly missed R.I.P

Agreed, Halo...I grew up on this guy during the early days. Remeber the "Flint" movies? I actually seen the original "Planet of the Apes" and the Omen when they hit the big screen. I still have the soundtrack albums, Goldsmith was one of the greats! I love film composers who can make or break a film, Goldsmith's scores were powerful...He will be missed!

He was an extremely talented composer. Actually, my favorite. The Omen is probably his best work in my mind. He was also more than willing to do interviews and commentary on the films. A loss indeed.

Must have had my head in a box last few weeks did not even realised he had died.

A great talent that will be sorely missed, but what a legacy he leaves behind.
