Coming to the Rescue
Plot: Having narrowly averted a major disaster on an oil rig, the Thunderbirds have just returned home to their secret base when TB5, their space based station, is critically damaged in a suspected meteor strike. Unbeknown to them, the attack on TB5 is a deliberate ploy by international master criminal Aristotle Spode to get them off the island. He takes over the island and drugs Brains into submission. But Spode has overlooked one key factor: Alan, Fermat and Tin Tin are still on the island.--From IMDb

Yipes, this looks bad, probably the stinker of July 30th. Looks like Power Rangers III or something. What is Ben Kingsley and Bill Paxton doing in a movie like this?

Well the original Thunderbirds puppets all had permanent shit eating grins on their mugs so Bill Paxton as a Tracy is ideal casting if you ask me.

As someone who grew up watching re-runs of the tv show, I am outraged at the fact that they've turned it into a SPY KIDS/AGENT CODY BANKS type movie. I mean seriously, WTF?
*Goes back to anticipating TEAM AMERICA which is what this movie should have been like*

All I can say is that I hope they got nice, fat paychecks for it. Looks mighty poor.

Everyone involved in this "movie" should be fired and barred from even watching another movie again let alone make one.

Well, the actors I mentioned are very good. They probably had to pay off a lawsuit or crack dealer or something.
The rest, I agree.

I saw this film last night,
and rest assured it IS diabolical.
The Script, acting, "action sequences", plot is all terrible. There's absolutly nothing to recomend in this movie.
Bill Paxton and Ben Kingsley are average, but aren't really given a chance to be any good from the lacklustre script.
Oh and Anthony Edwards is just embarrasing as Brains. An absolutly terrible performance on his behalf
2/10

I used to love the show so much when I was a little kid. So, naturally, I'll be avoiding this at all costs.

It's not that bad.
Yes it does feature annoying kids, a truly wooden performance from Bill Paxton (obviously taking the puppet origins to heart) & the most blatant product placement (Ford) I've ever seen.
On the other hand compared to the ass raping that was Starsky & Hutch it qualifies as an affectionate homage to the original.
At the screening I went to the kids loved it which is surely the entire point of a Thunderbirds movie.

saw this yesterday-- it was ok-- 6/10--- i didnt really enjoy it, but everything about it (other than the script) was excellently done-- it got the kitsch, feel, look of "thunderbirds" exactly right. And I'm rarely able to look this objectively, but i thought it was GREAT for kids

Thunderbirds are so-so at UK box office
Jeremy Kay in Los Angeles 26 July 2004 04:00
Universal-Working Title's Thunderbirds remake opened third in the UK through UIP at the weekend - its first launch anywhere in the world - on an estimated $2.4m (£1.3m) including previews on 433 screens.
The live-action family adventure version of Gerry Anderson's puppetry and pyrotechnics television series of the 1960s trailed Spider-Man 2, which was in its second weekend, and Shrek 2, in its fourth.
According to UIP the Thunderbirds bow came in slightly ahead of each of the three Spy Kids instalments. The next openings are in Israel and the Netherlands on Jul 29 and Japan on Aug 7.

LOL, you are so right. Can't believe my wife thinks this guy is good looking......
This looks like it may be the all-around worst movie of the summer.
Yes, Catwoman, I hear you....

Try all time. What happend Bill?
IMO, Catwoman looks better.
They're running tv ads in the UK with the line "Time to thunderize" in them. I mean what the fuck???
Oh and an £1.3M opening weekend in the UK counts as a disaster imo. Shrek 2 did £16M, spidey 2 did £7.2M and thunderbirds arguably has a bigger fanbase than those 2 here.

So is this like Catwoman, where it's so horrible it's funny or does it just suck?

I haven't seen the movie or anything, but I just want to say this:
Sophia Myles is HOT!
"Underworld" was so much better with her there...

This movie is gonna FLOP and FLOP big time, it didn't even make 1 million Friday Night, I'd say it will make about 2-3 million this weekend.
Poor Universal are having a bad summer.
Van Helsing- Flop
Riddick- Big Flop
Thunderbirds- VERY BIG FLOP!

There was a good movie here. Cue montage.
If the plot would have been a nice PG-rated action flick, no kids, all the real Thunderbirds.
-Have all the cool ships / vehicles with brilliant special effects.
-Have a real-ish (if absurd) plot about the ADULT members taking down some world crisis. (They are a rescue team for a reason...)
-Then just have a nice, romping SciFi adventure.
-Periodically break, and use super-campy moments to connect the old show's unintentional hilarity to the modern method.
The worst part is, from what I know, the series creator specifically tailored the puppet show to present "adult" action and situations to children, because he thought that children's shows were always being dumbed down too much for kids. So guess what they do to his franchise?

I'm going to go see this today, only because I'm a HUGE Star Trek: The Next Generation fan, and I want to support further directing efforts by Johnathan Frakes.
Frakes has the potential of directing a great sci-fi film (Star Trek: First Contact and Insurrection are prime examples of this, in my opinion), given the right script. Hopefully the sour reviews and poor box office won't prevent that for happening...

God that movie looks cornier than SPY KIDS.
I remember the old show, those puppets scared the hell out of me. I had nightmares about them all the time. I'm NEVER going to watch that movie, may bring up bad memories...

A crappy 60s puppet show turned into a crappy live action pre teen film.
