Anyone remember this classic Nick show in the 90's? Wow, this was some scary shit. A little mean for kids, I think. What's you're favorite episodes? Mine are The Ghastly Grinner about a kid who's comic book comes to life and everyone he knows turns into mindless blue slime drooling idiots.
My other fav is the Doll Maker about a girl who is turned into a doll and lives in a doll house in her attic. Very haunting and creepy.

I LOVED THAT SHOW!!!!!!!!!
That and pete and Pete were the best shows on Nick. When I was little Are You Afraid of the Dark? used to scare the hell outa me. The best story is the Tale of the Twisted Claw.
Yeah, I used to watch it on YTV all the time. Now and again, it pops up on the Family Channel and occasionally I'll stop to watch, just to rekindle the memories.
I remember the only episode that scared me was the one where some guy's at school and his science teacher or something let's him try out this new video game. The kid ends up being in the game and this little dude (who's a virus) is trying to keep him in there. And then there's something about a bicycle combination...and then the virus gets out. That creeped me out for some reason or another...

I don't know why, but my favorite episode was the one where the school's swimming pool was haunted by the evil spirit from that Indian Burial ground that it had been built on.
I also liked the one about the vampires living in the boiler room of a hospital.
Good times.

I'm not sure when it'll evry be released. Paramount owns Nickelodeon. We all know how long it took for a freakin F13 box set and it's still not gonna be that great.

Oh my God man!
I used to live for this show.
What syxxpac said about the haunted pool at the school. Thats my favorite to man.
Jeez, I still remember that thing. Blood red, slimy, skelotal, and creepy as hell.
The only thing that can make it be seen is chlorene or something. I cant remember.

I remember that one too. I recall the story revolving around the movie coming to life, and the "Nosferatu" knockoff would come through the screen while the movie's playing and wreak havoc on the theatre workers.

yeah, i remember that one about the pool. it was something in the pool that made it visible, i dont know what exactly it was. and i knew i remembered the one about the vampire. were they showing Nosferatu or were they showing a Nosferatu rip-off? i dont really remember. and i remember seeing the first part of the twisted claw, but i never got to finish it i dont think. i remember one of the storytellers pulling the claw out of a bag, and then he started to tell the story, and my mom yelled at me! i might of caught it on a later date tho.....so...what was the Twisted Claw about exactly? also, i remember one a bout a pinball game in the mall that these kids were playing, and something bad happened, i dont remember exactly what happened, but i do remember that that one did not have a happy ending.....i might be remembering the one that Jess mentioned earlier. but hey, does this come on anymore in the States? if so, what channel and time?

Well, I distinctly remember some creepy guy (who I think was a character utilized a few times throughout the series...can't recall his name though...) gave the theatre a set of his "special" movies that he said would guarantee business for the failing theatre. They decided to give it a try, and movie-goers came in droves to see these different films. What made these movies different was I think the bad guy won in all of them. I remember the scene where one of the theatre workers was watching the vampire movie and fell asleep towards the end, and after "Nosferatu"-lite disposed of Harker onscreen, he turned toward the worker (now asleep) and came toward the screen turning from black and white to a colorized, living character physically stepping out of the movie screen. It was quite cool, and I think the concept would make a great movie. It certainly proved to be an interesting show...

I think it was dr. Vink or sumin. And I remmebr this old lady in the episode who would always bash the employess and be all like"That was a terrible film". Then when they screend the vampire movie she was like "That was wonderful"
I remember the episode with Neve Campbell. It was cool.

My favorite episodes involved the theater and the vampire, plus the episode with the new neighbors that the local kids suspected of being vampires...only as it turned out it was their little boy who was the vampire! Very creepy little show, I have the 2 episodes on video! :)

I watched that episode where they stay in their old aunt's or granny's house and the kids in the tub and the chandeleir flickers and moves, I saw that whole episode when I was like 8 or 9. ALONE IN THE DARK, litterally. Scared me so bad, I never looked back. Yet now I watch such movies as Suspiria, Evil Dead, and The Exorcist. Funny how age changes things.

Man, this show used to scare the shit outta me when I was a kid.
Great show, from what I remember. Haven't seen it in years, but I'd like to see if it still holds up today, what with the fact that I now watch movies like The Shining & Alien.

Awesome show! My fave episodes are 'Laughing In The Dark' the one with the Clown and Cigars, and another one I forget what it's called, but they goto some deserted town, and it's haunted by ghots, and it's windy. Plus the one where they go to a vacation rental home or something, and this kid is like 90 years old, but he keeps making himself young with some type of mirror machine?? Either way, good stuff!!

It is a shame we've not gotten this series on DVD yet. Truly awesome! I used to watch it all the time!
My aunt and I with some of her friends used to go have bon fires and get really drunk. Towards the end of the night we would start telling ghost stories. Ya know how one person starts then the next person picks up from where they left off. Well my aunt and I would always do an episode from Are You Afraid of the Dark. LoL None of them realized it was from a kids show. Good times. :)

I remember two stories greatly that freaked me out from the show
The first was a house with a spirit. The only way to stop him was with pure silver and a chant or something. These people moved in and the son was taken away by the ghost so they got a girl to help them.
The other had a person who just moved into a house and there was some spirit in the basement or something like that. I remembered how at the end this guy who kept bullying the main character was locked in the basement and disappeared(I felt bad for him).
Or the three awesome episodes where there was a library that took people's voices from them, or the boarding school where the kids would become mindless zombies at night if they ate this gruel, even the red bike story.
I can't believe no one mentioned the best story of all of them, the haunted camera.

Ah the good old "Do You Remember Are You Afraid of the Dark" Thread. This one usually pops up every 5 or 6 months.
Great show. One of my favorites as a kid. Good memories to:
"That's Sard'O. No mister accent on the d'O." Also "Not Fink, it's Vink with a Va, Va, Va." To of my favorite reoccuring characters.
My favorite episode was probably the Vampire that was feeding off the patients of the hospital at night. I believe the episode was called "The Night Shift". He looked damned cool.

Hmmm, dont remember that one, although I think I remember one which had something to do with a doomed taxi ride and a riddle which went something like "What gers bigger the more you take away?" or somesuch thing, I do know the answer was "A hole" though.

It turns out you're all wrong about the camera.
The story had this kid who got a camera and noticed things that were wrong with it. When he took a picture of a guy in the locker room, a locker fell on him a few minutes after. When the picture developed it showed the guy pinned under the lockers(basically showing what happened). Anyone who had their picture taken would have something bad happen to them later on and it would be shown in the picture. They found out it was possessed by a demon because every picture had a little "logo" of a devil thing. I remember how the demon went into a video camera and the two main characters had to dodge being seen by it.
I loved this episode.
Say Cheese and Die was a pathetic rip off.

After going to the link that Jess posted I can now say that I miss this show. When it was on and I was a kid I despized it because it scared the living shit outta me ('specially the clown and vampire episodes, I still can't watch clowns or vampires). However, that was probably because I was like six when I remember watching it. Being older now I could definitely watch it. Here's hoping the show comes back on in the states!
My favorite episodes were the Tale of the Twisted Claw, the Tale of the Shiny Red Bicycle, some story about some kid and a train (possibly the Tale of Train Magic, not sure), and my personal favorite the Tale of the Dead Man's Float.
I got all the episode names from the link Jess posted. Thanks for the nostalgia Jess, you rule!

I remember the episode about the kid who had that doorway in his basement that led to another dimension, and there was that bully with the long hair and the tight black shirt and jeans. Even when I was 10 years old I could recognize that that was some of the worst acting I had ever seen.

Don't even get me started on Are You Afraid of the Dark?! It was my favorite show growing up, and it was ONE of the things that got me into horror as I got older. I still think it has one of the scariest openings ever. I guess I could consider Are You Afraid of the Dark? the lighter version of Tales From the Crypt! I've seen EVERY episode, and I'm proud of it. I remember I was so young, and half of the time it scared the living shit out of me. I have a great memory, and I remember most of the episodes. (Except I never saw the new season in 1999 with the new cast. Boo!) The Tale of the Shiny Red Bicycle has always been my favorite. The haunting image of the rusted bike has always stayed with me! Here are some of my other favorite episodes, and why:
The Tale of the Midnight Madness: I think this has to be the scariest episode yet. That damn Nosferatu looking vampire was sooo scary. I remember his long finger nails, and his bald head. It's probably not as scary now, but when I was like 8 years old, it was one of the scariest things I ever saw.
The Tale of the Midnight Ride: The lovely Sleepy Hollow episode. I think the headless horseman scared the crap out of me.
The Tale of the Water Demons: I loved this episode. I remember thinking that I felt so bad for the old guy who could never sleep...That's why he drank coffee all the damn time. Plus, the demons themselves were scary as hell.
The Tale of Laughing in the Dark: I always liked clowns, until I saw this episode. When I look back at it now, I keep thinking of the clown in IT. I can easily see how it must have tramatized children back then.
The Tale of the Nightly Neighbors: This is one of the first times I started to learn about vampires. I remember after I saw the episode, I would look in the mirrior each morning to see if my neck had any bite marks in them. Hahaha.
Another cool thing about the episodes, is the guest stars. Like Gilbert Gottfried in The Tale of Station 109.1, Bobcat Goldthwait in The Tale of the Final Wish, Tatyana Ali in The Tale of the Quicksilver, and Tia & Tamera Mowry in The Tale of the Chameleons.
I've been seriously thinking of buying the 'Box set' on Ebay for like $50. I think it's worth it. I would do just about anything to see all these episodes again!

I'm sure there's probably a petition or something on www.tvshowsondvd.com for a boxed set of AYAD.
Lindsey, I hated Tale of the Quicksilver. That zombie guy in the wall freaked me out.
Then again, I think I have a fear of things in walls. An episode of the Twilight Zone where there were spirits who would constantly try to break out of the walls(think of the wall as a giant wall of rubber and the people were trying to get out-a good example is the scene in Freddy vs Jason where Katherine Isabelle's character is standing at a wall and Freddy's face comes out from the wall). Anyways it was a woman who was being haunted by these wall spirits and at the end she was pulled into the wall and the spirit that pulled her in took over her body. I remember the show closing with her(possessd version)walking out of a room and the actual girl is trying to come out of the wall screaming. Scary episode.
