I saw this topic on the imdb forum the other day, and since I've noticed all you guys (well, most of you) enjoy watching that kinda stuff, I thought it'd be interesting too have it up here too. Which actors had you conviced? Which movies you think had the best gay/lesbian couples?
For me, no 1 in this category would have to be Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly in "Bound".
Angelina Jolie and Elizabeth Mitchell in "Gia" come at a close second.

Hank Azaria in The Birdcage, with Robin Williams, the guy was great in that movie.

Now when you say "gay roles" do you mean roles in which the actors really acted out their sexuality? Because apparently Matt Damon was gay in THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY, Will Smith was gay in SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION, and James Gandolfini was gay in THE MEXICAN.

I meant actors playing gay characters, not necessarily doing sex scenes. My two favorites just happen to fall into that category. So, to answer your question - yes, I was thinking also of the roles like those you mentioned.

Calista Flockhart did a gay role? I never would've thought. When was this? And was the movie any good? I might check it out (if I can find it).

Calista Flockhart is actually a pretty decent actress. She's done stage work and I like her films outside of the whole ALLY MCBEAL thing. She's in TELLING LIES IN AMERICA with Kevin Bacon and Brad Renfro.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Calista. All I said was, having only seen her as Ally McBeal who is as straight as they come, I find it hard to imagine her doing that sort of thing. But I'll be sure to check it out providing that I can find it in this middle of nowhere.

Actually, I was agreeing with you, Trinity. /ubb/smile.gif

I never would've thought that Calista would do a "gay" role either until I heard about that particular flick.

I'll second Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly in "Bound", as well as Matt Damon in "Talented Mr. Ripley."

I'd also add Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey in "Heavenly Creatures." I just saw this again the other night, and damned if you don't believe they really love each other that much...

I don't know if the main character in "Boys Don't Cry" technically counts. She sees herself as a guy, and apparently has both "boy and girl" parts. Again, this is just a technicality. Something to ponder.

Thank god you mentioned this movie. I would've been slightly disappointed if I had to do so. ;x

The real Teena Brandon wasn't a hermaphrodite nor did she ever have any operation to change her sex. AFAIK, she only dressed and acted as a boy, and was able to pass herself off as such to both males and females. Unless they changed something in the film to indicate otherwise, and since it was more fictionalized then the documentary "The Brandon Teena Story", that may be possible.

~edonline~ The film does say she's a hermaphrodite. Even if the real Brandon Teena wasn't, that's not the point. We're talking about gay characters on film, what the "real story" was is meaningless in the context of this topic.

Actually, the CHARACTER says she is a hermaphrodite, but she was lying. She's a complete female, and the sicko rapists confirmed it. I also know she considered herself a guy, but she wasn't, and thus she's technically a homosexual, right?

Well yes I guess you're right!

I have to admit I don't know anything about hermaphrodites, so I wouldn't know "what kind" of "boy parts" they have and if it's obviously "external" or not! Sorry, guess I lost this one! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif

i know a lot of people hate it when TV stuff ends up in these forums but i have to say, the best actress in a gay role would be Alyson Hannigan as Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
