I have recently come to realize something so significant to the Friday The 13th Series that it would be a sin for me to not share it with my fellow Schmoes: It seems that Parts 7-10 are generally the most hated of the series, & I mean HATED--indeed, fans spew such bilious venom on these films as to make Adolf Hitler quiver with fear. Yet there is still something all 4 of these films share; indeed, they are the only films in the franchise that possess this particular characteristic. Do you know what it is?
Kane Hodder.
I find it very peculiar (to say the least) that most F13 fans worship the ground this man walks on & were enraged--yes, ENRAGED--about his absence in Freddy Vs. Jason, which most seem to have liked, yet they absolutely loathe & despise the very films he starred in. This may be a little too general, but I wouldn't believe this if I didn't have a shred of credible evidence.
Feedback would be much appreciated. Keep in mind, however, that any insults, hate mail, death threats, etc., are fully expected. ;)

I actually like 7-10, excluding that piece of shit, Jason Goes To Hell. But even that one has some nice qualities.
Pt. 7 is my 2nd or 3rd fav. in the series, can't quite decide.
I love 8, nice campy fun. I care not that the title is a little misleading.
And X is great fun too.
1: 6/10
2: 7/10
3: 6/10
4: TFF: 6/10
5: 5/10
6: 5/10
7: 7/10
8: 7/10
9: 5/10
X: 6/10
Some may be a little off, but other than 2 (my favorite), 7, and 8... I sometimes change my opinion on this series. I wasn't really mad when Hodder was not signed for FVJ, but I would have liked to see it.

I like each and every Jason movie in its own way. I don't hate or dislike either of them. They all have redeeming values going for them. Even parts 7 through 10.
I can't speak for everyone when it comes to 7 to 10, but I would say that despite their opinions of those films being weaker, they probably think that Jason, and I mean Kane Hodder's performance, is one of the best parts of those entries. That's just me though.
I'm not one of those people who absolutely adore Kane, I think that all of the different Jason actors were equally good. I do, however, wonder if Jason could have been possibly more awesome in FvJ. Ken Kirschner was fine as Jason, but he seem a little too layed back. He still kicked Freddy's ass though, that's for sure!

The reason for this is the rediculous storylines that went along with 7-10. Jason fights Carry, Jason goes to the big city, Jason is a serpent of evil, Jason in space. However Kanes performances were superior to that of any other Jason in most fans opinion. He also cared about the character and treated him the way an actor would rather than how a stuntman would.
Plus Kane has been to many conventions and really enjoys meeting with fans of the series.

I like 7 and JGTH but 8 and X sucked but it wasn't Kane's fault

I love all of the Friday The 13th movies for different reasons. It's hard picking among them, as they are like my children.
Part 7-10 are all personal favorites of mine. Part 6 has recently become my favorite in the series, but 7 and Jason X are both up there. Kane Hodder is a great Jason, but I've begun to think that he's undeserving of the part as of late. There's plenty of other Jason's, namely CJ Graham, who did just as good of a job as him and came BEFORE him. They are just as entitled to the role as Hodder. I miss the days of a different Jason in each film. With that said, Ken Kirzinger turned out a great performance in FvJ and I'd like to see him turn another performance out in a Crystal Lake area Friday film.

*hopes "X" means "Jason X"*
Anyways, I love Hodder and his Fridays are great (except 8).

I still don't see what the big trouble is with Part 8. Quite frankly, I think it's one of the coolest in the series. It has that pure fun aura about it that I love.

I agree, it is no better or worse then the rest of the series. Maybe Jason wasn't in Manhattan too long and maybe Jason teleported a couple of times (laziness by the director, I think), but in the end, none of that bothers me too much because we get to see Jason in a new, cool environment. We see him clean house on a cruise ship, we see him take a little bit of Manhattan, we just Jason doing his thing!
Sure, some people and schmoes probably don't like the idea of Jason leaving Crystal Lake in general (same with space...), but for me, it worked. And, for one of the late 80's Jason films, the film is not botched up too bad by the MPAA either, certainly not as bad infamous "F13 Part VII: The New Blood." At least it didn't bother me too much. Then again, a lot of schmoes don't like seem to be too pleased by Jason's kills in this one either.
What I really liked about "Jason Takes Manhattan" that redeems its undeniable flaws is its atmosphere. This flick has a great 80's vibe for it. For a 1989 movie, this movie really tried to preserve was left of that decade. Just the opening pop music during the credits turned me on. I know some people and schmoes didn't like it, but I think it worked perfectly with the film. It is certainly not as overly obvious or bad as the pop tunes in the "Scream" movies and its knockoffs during teeneybopper 1996-2001 fad, other films new films it seems to be in.
I think this film deserves a re-watch from a lot of schmoes. Forget that Jason doesn't arrive to New York until 2/3s through. Forget that Jason teleported at a few instances. Just enjoy Jason cleaning house. Enjoy the characters that IMO were better characterized and acted, than most films of that time and even now. Let go of the fact that Jason went on a field trip. Just watch Jason do his thing!
My rating for "Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan" - **1/2 / **** same as every Jason flick except Part 3 and VI (both ***).

No, its just the acting and the script sucked. There was nothing Hodder could do about it.

Honestly, I Really do think that Kane Hodder played Jason best. He played a murderous, evil monster, better than anyone could imagine, he has the size and most definitely the mannerisms, that to me make Jason, however, when you are thrust into lackluster storylines...what can you do?....Imagine if you will,: Kane Hodder in part 4....or 6, those are my favorite Fridays....and I think that had they been done with Kane, they would be EVERYONE'S Favorites....I am not saying that all the other actors that have portrayed Jason were inadequate, I am saying that Kane merely had the mannerisms down better, and no matter what 4 was the best Friday regardless of kane's absence.

KANE HODDER was a good JASON stuck in bad movie ideas. Since he arrived is when the series took a turn for the weird. Nothing he could do about it. Wasn't his fault. I actually really like all the entries he starred in. JGTH is even alright as long as I don't think of it as a FRIDAY movie. Although he is bitter about what happened with the F vs J debacle he would gladly come back to play JASON again if given the chance. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I think most people just respect the hell of Hodder so much for giving and loving the series so much as to how some of the others consisently tried to stray away from being a part of the franchise (yet now they all make money off of people at conventions, ironic).
He was a great Jason to me...I still find Richard Brooker to be the best and perfect Jason, but Hodder has mad props and love my way.
Part 8 is one of my favorite flicks out there (yep, probably the most hated one,I love...go figure haha). And Jason X was shitloads of fun.
I think in the end as I noted...its about respect more then anything.

Right, HODDER (along with CJ GRAHAM by the way) actually embraced the character while the others had pretty much looked down on it and found it embarassing. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

As much as I like and respect KANE HODDER for his love and enthusiasm for the films, he can't hold a candle to the best Jason, TED WHITE from THE FINAL CHAPTER. And yes, it's ironic that WHITE hated doing the film and hated the thought of killing teens. But he was so damn good at it!!!
The zombified Jason is just a big clubber bastard with no personality. He's still cool though.

Yeah thats true about Ted White. I think all the JASONS were cool in their own respective ways. My personal favorite is potato sack Steve Dash though. What a crazy performance. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Kane Hodder is overrated. He was great in The New Blood and good in the others but I never found him to be all that.
Ted White is the scariest Jason for me. I don't care if he hates the film he gave me the chills when I was a wee one.

Jason is too intricate a character for just anyone to play.....George Clooneys portrayal was dry and uninspired.

Personally,I would be too.If you think about it,Kane put his heart and soul into this role that was probably written very poorly (Much as I love the Friday series, lets be honest, the scripts aren't quite top-notch.)and taken it to a level most others hadn't cared to venture. He has also garnerred fan acclaim and is normally referred to as "THE" Jason Voorhees. So putting myself in his hockey-mask,I would also be very bitter, but willing to return to crystal lake.
(EDIT)Also,if you are a Hodder fan,I recommend Hatchet, which is hopefully the bud of the next horror series that runs into the double digits.

I've enjoyed all the actors that were able to wear the infamous hockey mask. Steve Dash (Friday the 13th Part 2, not Warrington Gillette (he seems to take all the credit for this one, even though his only screen time as Jason, was when Jason breaks through the window at the end.) Richard Brooker (Friday the 13th Part 3,) he played Jason as a rather demented looney tunes psychopath and I loved every single moment of it. Ted White (Friday the 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter,) even though he refused to receive a screen credit as Jason (fucking pussy!!!) I found him to be quite dark and intimidating (plus he kills George McFly from Back To The Future). Roy; or the only human being that can take quite a beating and still keeps on coming, he is the only person I can think of that can take a hit by tractor like no other and not feel a fucking thing.(Friday the 13th A New Beginning,) No comment on this one, best part of this one was seeing that chick with the enormous rack (GOOD TIMES!!!!!!) The dude in part 6 was good, but the whole movie was just too campy for my liking. Kane Hodder (part 7,8,9, and Jason X) owns this role, he brings a menace to the character that no other Jason has done, now if only he was the original Jason.

BUMPity BUMPITy BUMP BUMP!
I like Friday 7 a lot, it's one of my favorite Fridays-the rest I couldn't care less for. It's not Hodder that ruinned them, its the odd plotlines that feel out of place for a Friday movie.
