View Full Version : Hey Shyamalan...stop acting like your movies are so secretive!

The Village was kept under such tight wraps that the stars couldn't discuss any aspect of the movie with anyone...Adrien Brody couldn't even say if his hair was long or short in the movie. Actors on talk shows couldn't even show clips from the movie. Roger Ebert and other critics were barred from giving away plot details in there reviews.
But somehow...the ending got leaked on the internet well before the movie came out!! How did this happen? It's my own fault for reading the spoilers but I figured what I was reading was one of Night's tricks...if him and the studio were so secretive of Brody's hair length in the movie I figured no way the ending would be online.
But I was wrong. The Village massive secrecy was just another tactic employed by Shyamalan.

Err
They showed a clip on Leno when Bryce Dallas Howard was on.
And I think they showed something when she and Shyamalamadingdong were on the view.
Heh, I think they're just doing it to keep up the illusion that the leaked ending isn't the real deal...

More importantly...
Hey Shyamalan...stop acting in your own movies. You glorified your stupid cameo in The Village to the point of absurdity. Douchebag.

Well, when Adrien Brody and Sigourney Weaver were on Live! With Regis & Kelly, they weren't allowed to show any clips.
Oh and I can see you visit reel.com as well ;).

It's all because in a clip, you get the jist of the movie.
Seriously, all people need to do is get a brief premise of the movie and then watch the last 15 minutes.
This movie was one big glass of milk, with the utters being The sixth sense, Unbreakable, and Signs.

I find it funny how Roger Ebert wasn't allowed to reveal plot details... yet it was because of his review that I was able to predict the big "twist" to the film.

That's because he was very obvious with his "hiding" of it.....

Why is it that the forums are so against namecalling but totally condone namecalling against filmmakers/actors/etc?

It's a way to be free with your words and thoughts, while keeping civil obedience between each other. It's the difference between calling the woman down the street a slut, as opposed to your sister. One gets a chuckle, the other gets daddy to break the belt out on our ass.

Yeah, Ebert was borderline spoiling it there.
********** SPOILERS FOR THE VILLAGE ****************
The tombstone at the beginning of the film states the year of the young boy's death. There was no need for him to state
"Let us say that it takes place in an unspecified time and place... The clothing of the characters and the absence of cars and telephones and suchlike suggest either the 1890s, or an Amish community. "

Many well known directors are known to have given themselves bit parts. Hell, Hitchcock can be seen in every one of his movies, and this is obviously a trait that Shylaman has picked up (and it's quite obvious that Hitchcock is a HEAVY influence on him).
It's not like his bit parts hurt anything or require real acting talent.

Sorry to post back to back, but....
He overdoes it to the point where people have yelled out, "THAT'S THE DIRECTOR!" or "THAT'S M. DARK BLAMALAMAN!" during screenings of Unbreakable, Signs, and this new one that I've gone to. (And yes, I butchered the name for a reason)

Yes, mobs of people will start whispering, talking, or saying loudly three times "THAT'S THE DIRECTOR!!!"
Except for the stereotypical redneck who looks to his friends and says "I guess they had to find a way to put a colored guy in there somewhere!!"
It is annoying.
On Joblo's Q & A with him, he said he strives for originality. Well, having yourself cameo in every picture ain't exactly Dr. Pepper.

I can't believe Shyamalan worked in another extended cameo in The Village.
What an egotist.
No doubt his next flick will just be called M. Night Shyamalan.
Yeah, what an egotist. Like that damn Quentin Tarantino, Orson Welles and Alfred Hitchcock.
"1. This is the rant forum."
So I can insult someone on the forum just as long as it's on that rant board?
Sweet.

1.) You do not disrespect, insult or put down your fellow movie fan on our board. Civil debates only.

We are allowed to say what we like, as long as it is about movies, and not personal shit slinging back and forth between two people who have never starred, written, directed, or cameoed in a film ever in their fuckin life.
We also have a Site/Suggestions forum where you can ask this question if it really perturbs you that much, so that we can get back to the topic of M. Night Shyamalan.

If Shyamalan keeps on making movies just as bad as The Village, then he'll just be another movie hack, the likes of Michael Bay, i was looking so forward to the movie and then i was dissapointed so badly by this movie it was pathetic coming from the man who did The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, i wanted another smart movie but it goes to show you that if you do a movie in a small place call it The Village and have nothing remotely scary in it then don't hype it, as the scariest movie of the year, that's just bullshit! It had good acting but the story was so put on. I'm just mad because i didn't think it was all that good and scary.
Other then that this was hyped just to make a profit and all that other shit. Like when The Sixth Sense came out it wasn't that hyped at all as i can remember it, it had great word of mouth but after that M. Night got a big head on him and started thinking he was the greatest thing on Earth. It's not saying that i hate him, even though it shows in the writing, it's just that The Village could've had so much more potential and it ran out of steam but oh well.

Is it just me or has everybody started to hate M. Night?? I mean, before the film came out everyone loved him and now all of a sudden people say he sold out and etc.

I don't know why everyone is complaining about M. Night Shyamalan, but personally I think he's great, he's a master storyteller, and I really enjoyed The Village, and I hope to see many more films from him.

I whole-heartedly agree. After going to the Q&A (Which is different from reading it - trust me) I really saw a different side of him. The guy loves movies, loves MAKING movies, and most importantly loves his audience. A lot of people didn't like The Village, my -theory- is that those who didn't like it and were expecting something totally different was an audience he wasn't trying to appeal to in the first place.
Just look at Nirvana (yes - Nirvana Fanboy alert.) Their first two albums Bleach and Nevermind were big hits with the mainstream crowd, but when In Utero came out people were totally floored. In Utero was for Nirvana's FANS. Nirvana's AUDIENCE. Not the mainstream. This is exactly how I view The Village.
Oh, and fuck Ebert. The moron's spoiling the ending for everyone who hasn't seen it. And I know he's doing it from spite. What a 'mo.

1. I agree on how M. night loves making movies it's different when you get a good movie out of a director that has love for the genre and films in general rather than someone that's in it ONLY for the money.
2. I was sort of dissapointed by the villege because I was expecting a REAL horror movie but I still think it was a pretty good film.
3. Who's Ebert???
Roger Ebert. Film critic.

Although I did not like The Village and it was a complete letdown, I wholeheartedly agree that in general, he is a master storyteller.
And I don't mind him appearing in his own movies. Infact I thought he was excellent in Signs.

I don't mind that either. I can't believe people were bashing his cameo in The Village calling it egotistical etc; You only see the back of his head and his face in a reflection!

Now it may have sounded like i hate him but i really don't that rant was made after i saw The Village and i really wasn't impressed by it, but i've just figured out every director has a movie that somebody diesn't like and for mine for M. Night it was The Village, I love his other work like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable , and Signs which i thought were all great movies in my opinion, but maybe he'll do something really cool, next i don't know i just really wanted to love The Village but i thought it was disappointing not calling it the worse film in the world but for him it was disapppointing.
