My dad recently created a top 1000 list that I think is brilliant. He chose from World cinema, not just American, and also didnt exclude the great silent films that have in many ways set the standard. His top ten list is pretty interesting and it's as follows:

1.TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD ( like father like daughter, it's my favorite too http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif )
2.CITIZEN CANE
3.THE GRAND ILLUSION
4.THE GRAPES OF WRATH (FRANCE)
5.THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC (SILENT)
6.CASABLANCA
7.THE RULES OF THE GAME (FRANCE)
8.LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
9.IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE
10.PATHS OF GLORY

I'm interested in your comments onthis and though we've done top ten lists many times, I think it's fun to 're-hash',so to speak.

Yeah, but has he seen The Wicker Man?
And where did he put Naked? Or Fanny And Alexander?

Please post the whole list... Go ahead!

Yeah, I'd love to see the whole list!

I'm glad to see Casablanca (10/10) on there. And I love To Kill a Mockingbird (9/10) too.

Just an added point, I accidentally stuck FRANCE in parentheses by THE GRAPES OF WRATH...that's wrong...supposed to be by the film above it. sorry 'bout it...

I'll post the whole list sometime if you like. Just so you know, he's almost 60 so he's bound to have seen movies we havent but it's interesting to note that some movies AFI and our fellow schmoes would put on the list (PULP FICTION, AMERICAN BEAUTY) are conspicuously absent. It's one of the things that makes the list interesting, I think.

Hey but I DO think THE GRAPES OF WRATH is a french flick, Siren. I know the title in french is LES RAISINS DE LA COLERE and it's supposed to be one of the best french movies ever...I think.

Nope, it's American. If you check the IMDb listings, it says it was made in the USA. It stars Henry Fonda.
