I chose The Last Samurai, but I'm seeing Collateral next week. Maybe I should have waited to vote. Well, I certainly am a dumbass.

1. Collateral - 10/10
2. Minority Report - 9/10
3. Vanilla Sky - 9/10
4. The Last Samurai - 8/10
5. Mission: Impossible II - 6/10

I voted Minority Report the overall best as I felt it was a rather strong showing for its genre, but I really did like The Last Samurai. It would have easily been my top choice had the ending been more to my liking. Vanilla Sky was also a fine film in many respects. Overall, I'd say Cruise is having a good decade (or 4 years, lol).

MI:2 was crap, but ya gotta pay the bills, I suppose.

I have not seen Collateral yet.

Collateral (2004)

I never have been a huge Cruise fan, even though he has always been a good actor and hollywood's biggest money maker. However that is changing in a hurry. In 3 years he has made 3 excellant films, first Minority Report, then The Last Samurai, and now Collateral. The later being as good, and unique as any thriller I have seen in the last five years. Collateral is not only my favorite of these movies, It is along with Born on the Fourth of July, the best film of his career.

Collateral 9/10
The Last Samurai 8/10
Minority Report 8/10
Vinilla Sky 6/10
Mission Impossible 2 5/10

No matter how many films the Cruiser makes he will never ever top dancing around in his jockey shorts in Risky Business.

He'll probably never top boffing Rebecca De Mornay in real life either.

Great topic, I was just having a conversation with someone about how Cruise has lately been like Oliver Stone in the 80's. He just makes one great film after another.

1.) Vanilla Sky -9/10 (the best film of 2001)
2.) The Last Samurai -9/10
3.) Collateral -8/10
4.) Minority Report -8/10
5.) Mission Impossible II -5/10

It's of note that one year before this decade started, he starred in TWO of the best films of the year, Magnolia and Eyes Wide Shut, and deserved the Oscar for the former. Not to mention he's produced some of the best films of the past few years, being behind Narc, Shattered Glass, and Jo's favorite, The Others.

Mission: Impossible II - 2/10
Vanilla Sky - 4/10
Minority Report - 8/10
The Last Samurai - 4/10
Collateral: N/A

To me he's only starred in one good film, and Collateral is looking good. He did have a brilliant 1999, I can give him that.

Minority Report and Collateral are both 8/10 imo I gave my vote to the latter though because I like Mann more than Spielberg as for the rest

Vanilla Sky 6/10-A decent flick but one of Cameron Crow's weaker films.

The Last Samurai 5/10-A so so movie

Mission Impossible 2 1/10-Just a bad bad movie.

Only Minority Report and Collateral stand up, though the latter had Cruise acting instead of giving in for usual stereotyped idiosyncrasies.

The Last Samurai: 9.5/10
Collateral: 8.5/10
Minority Report: 8/10
Mission Impossible 2: 5.5/10
I haven't seen Vanilla Sky yet.

I think Tom Cruise is a fairly underrated actor. Somehow I get the feeling from most people that he goes under the same category as Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, etc., but I've never seen him in a bad performance. I don't think he's one of the greatest actors ever, but probably one of the best of the nineties (although he doesn't hold a candle to Tom Hanks or Kevin Spacey).

Minority Report-8/10
MI2-8/10

Well V. Sky=best film ever made hands down. But all of his movies are good except for A Few Good Men. zzzzzzzzzzzz
Why is everyone dissing MI2 it was a solid action film and with some good acting and a good plot.

I had to settle with Collateral, as I think he kinda went above and beyond his norm.

He is WAY underrated as far as his acting ability goes. Everyone sees the religious Tom Cruise but never the Tom Cruise that is without a doubt one of the best actors of our generation. (and arguably of all time)

Although this man never does bad or even mediocre movies because he's fucking awesome, "Minority Report" is love.

All in that list kick ass, though. And yes, I even loved "War of the Worlds" and "Mission: Impossible III" is to this day one of my all time favorite action movies.

Spielberg + Anyone = Tits.
Anyone + Tom Cruise = Tits.
Spielberg + Tom Cruise = Well, you do the sexy math.

I couldn't figure out why there were so many movies missing off of this list...then I looked at the OP date: 2004. :D

Well, my favorite Tom Cruise film from 2000 - 2004 (and actually, so far this decade) is Collateral, followed very, very closely by The Last Samurai.
