Who do you think should shoulder the blame for the shit-fest that was Dire Another Day?
This is sort of a spillover from another thread, where Mr Pikul and I have been trying to figure out if the DAD writer was a drunken student or a monkey.
Who do blame for it?

Director Lee Tamahori takes a lot of the blame I think.
A lot of the very worst ideas (overuse of CGI, graphic sex scenes) were directly attributable to him.
He's got his just desserts though. He's currently helming XXX 2
Ultimately however the buck stops with Barbara Broccoli & unfortunately I don't think she has a clue of how to produce a Bond film.

I think its probably a mix of the two to be honest. Her run as producer hasn't been totally awful...but mix that with the right (wrong?)director, and we all know what you get.
i also blame halle berry a little. I still refuse to believe shes either
a) attractive
b) capable of acting.
Everytime I see one of her performances, It just kills the movie for me.
Oh, and the writing. Shite Villains, shite plan for domination....just shite.
On the plus side, I do like rosamund Pike (dribble) and the sword-fight.
I have to balance the argument a little ;)
I think it's mostly Halle Berry and the screenwriters.

Not being able to confirm just how much sway Tamahori had over this picture, I can't place all the blame on him - but based on Brosnan's commentary on the DVD it sounds like he had a lot of input into the direction this movie took, perhaps more so than other past Bond directors. I can't say I cared for his directing - it wasn't good - it wasn't terrible. Seemed a little too MTVish for me.
I guess I would have to place the brunt of the blame on screenwriters Purvis and Wade, who offered up one of their absolute worst Bond scripts in their long tenure with the series. Really - absolutely awful. The cliches and sexual innuendos were gag inducing, and the overall plot seemed patched together. The concept of the Icarus could have been left out and the movie wouldn't have been any worse - perhaps better!
Broccoli and Wilson don't escape blame, though. They have the final say and it is those two who have the power to steer Bond away from the drab and into the extraordinary. They struck gold with Goldeneye, but have faltered with every Brosnan picture since in my opinion (with the exception of The World Is Not Enough - which was a great Bond movie if not for the embarrasing 'acting' of Denise Richards).
I would be remiss if I didn't also mention the horrendous acting of Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry. How she could win an Oscar for 'Monsters Ball' (which was filmed just before DAD) and then suck so badly in Bond 20 is something I just cannot fathom. Clearly, the blame can be spread around enough for everyone to share - but in my mind Ms. Berry, along with the screenwriters, absolutely sunk this picture.
Brosnan seems to be holding his own and doing the best he can with what he's given. Too bad he has been denied a true 007 classic that all the other Bond actors have seemed to enjoy.

That's exactly the reason why it sucks, am I the only one who is sick of some big head third rate director jumping into the success of previous movies, and putting in a lot of idiotic changes. Barbie and Wilson were too weak to stop him. The man had zero class, he took away all class from Bond, the film looked like a cheap standard action fare..it stank to high heaven.

Although, having said that, it was still better than XXX ;0

Well, it's a sum of all kinds of things.
