DVDEmpire just put up a pre-order for a 3-disc special edition of Pirates of the Caribbean, due out on Nov 2. No specs were posted. Wasn't the current 2-disc collector's edition enough? I mean what else could they include? Anyways, the link to the pre-order is here (http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?userid=00000424510325&item_id=625768)

It seems they always find new ways to astonish us.

I'll only pick it up if its a different cut of the film.

 I just bought the 2 disc version a few weeks ago.

I won't really care though unless it's like an extended or unrated cut; which I doubt.

You would think that they would save this shit for the theatrical premiere of PotC 2, which hasn't even left pre-production yet...

Well, looks like it's just 8 new bonus features packages with the current 2-disc set. Here's the coverart, courtesy of DavisDVD:

This sort of thing makes me wonder if the studios have any intelligence!

On the one hand they're moaning that people are pirating DVDs, then on the other they put out multiple versions of a movie. I have both the Spidey and POTC double-disc DVDs (which I, obviously foolishly, thought would be the definitive versions  ) and now there are suddenly three disc versions!

So, I'm thinking that the next major release that I want, say Spidey 2, will probably follow suit, so I might as well rip off a copy from BlockBastard until the 'definitive' version is released, at which point I'll buy the 'definitive' version!

The alternative, of course is to also make these extra discs available on their own, so fans like myself who are supporting the industry by buying the movies on DVD when they first come out, can have all of the special features without effectively buying the movies twice (or more!)

Either that, or be up front like with the LOTR discs and say "they will be a definitive version in the future, so choose now whether you want to double dip or not". Bastards!

Will the bonus disc be available seperately?

And what are the "8 features" anyway? If they are just more Making-Of docs, what's the point? I got enough on the first edition. Deleted scenes? Can't be anything good, since it seems most of the deleted scenes would have been included on the first edition. More outtakes? Still galleries?

Whatever they are, they can't be good enough to double dip if the 3rd disc isn't available seperately.

This isn't milking , this is tearing off the nipple and seeing if there is any moisture left in it .
