Hm...two similar, yet different, yet both amazing bands.

Let's disect:

Cream, great guitarist; Eric Clapton.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience, great guitarist (best ever); Jimi Hendrix.

Cream, amazing drummer; Ginger Baker.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience, hugely amazing and underrated drummer; Mitch Mitchell.

Cream, hugely talented bassist; Jack Bruce.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience, equally talented bassist; Noel Redding.

Plus, both bands were around at the same time...so ya know.

Now, this leaves the burning question. Which band was better? Both had some great songs. Cream had "Badge", "White Room", "Sunshine of Your Love", "Toad", etc...and The JHE had "The Wind Cries Mary", "Purple Haze", "All Along the Watchtower", "Are You Experienced?" "Hey Joe", "Fire", etc.

It comes down to a matter of your musical tastes, really. Cream was more bluesy, and possibly, the first ever hard rock group. While The Jimi Hendrix Experience was more experimental and played in so many genres.

In my opinion, though, Cream has nothing on The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The level that they play is just amazing, and the blending of the genres is just fantastic. They can do blues, jazz, rock, hard rock, R & B, and soul all on one album. It's uncanny.

So. Ya know.

Strange Brew my friend...Strange Brew.

It's all about Cream.

Jimi was an icon before he was an icon but Eric and company caught lightning in a bottle and smoked it during the brief time they were around. Its almost unfair to compare but Jimi was a big influence on Eric...but overall, when it comes down to the SONGS...Cream had it better.

It's apples and oranges, but I pick Cream. Clapton is still the man. Jimi is good and the two have different styles, but Eric Clapton is better to me.

Tough call, but I have to go with Creme here. I tend prefer Jimi's work with Band Of Gypsys anyways.

Jimi's got Cream beat. Cream was good but Jimi is Jimi, who is the man.

Jimi all the way, although I love Cream as well. It's actually a fairly good comparison, as both bands were around for a similar amount of time (around three years), both are rock-flavored blues. Both are very influential (Jimi Hendrix must be the most popular idol among guitarists, while Cream invented the "power trio"). In the end I like Jimi Hendrix way more though.

P.S. : Cream should do a reunion tour! All their members are still alive as far as I know, and I saw Eric Clapton a month ago and he's just as good as he ever was. A reunion tour would be great!

There both really great, original, and influential bands of not only their time but ours as well… Jimi was the first “heavy metal” of their time, and yes, people called it heavy metal back then… now, we call it experimental or rock and roll blues.

I don’t agree with Jerk on what he said about how Cream is more bluesy, if anything their about the same, Jimi released a CD called Jimi Hendrix Blues… half of all his songs are bluesy, and half of all his songs are heavy rock (which are the most popular ones at that…)

Jimi is a better guitar player, better lyricist, and had better music then cream, I love cream with all my heart, but no one can beat Jimi.

Don't get me wrong. Jimi's music was very bluesy, but I think overall Cream has him beat. Jimi had his share of blues, mind you, and great blues it was; but he also had his rock, his heavy metal, his jazz influences, etc. etc...While Cream focused on a more bluesy sound.
