With "Star Wars" just around the corner, if you had asked only a few days ago I would have told you that all the big guns - save one - are finally on DVD. Well, the end of an era is finally upon us. The Criterion Collection has just announced Robert Altman's Short Cuts (spine #265) for release this November. This two-disc set arrives with a new Director approved 2.35:1 anamorphic digital transfer(from high-definition) supervised by editor Geraldine Peroni, a new Dolby Digital 5.1 track, an isolated music track, "Reflections on Short Cuts" new 25-minute videotaped conversation with Robert Altman and Tim Robbins, "Luck, Trust, and Ketchup: Robert Altman in Carver Country" 90-minute making-of documentary, deleted scenes, a segment from BBC television's Moving Pictures (tracing the development of author Raymond Carver's short story "Jerry and Molly and Sam" for the film), a 50-minute audio interview with Raymond Carver, trailers, advertising gallery, a special reprint of Vintage Books' "Short Cuts" companion collection of short stories, an essay by film critic Michael Wilmington and a guide to the music and more. Oddly, the commentary track recorded for Criterion's laserdisc collection isn't mentioned for this set. Just in case, don't get rid of your laserdiscs yet (I sure won't). Retail for the DVD is $39.95.

Finally, jesus.

(singing, as Bill Hicks) There is a God, he loves us all so much.

At FUCKING last.

Pardon me, I'm a bit excited. I'm getting this on day 1.

Too bad this didn't come out in time for my tournament. I think it would have done fairly well.
