View Full Version : What music video did you see today? (Rating required)

I thought this thread would be a nice twist to the "what you're listening to now" thread.
It would be interesting to see what rating most of us give music videos that are currently on rotation at our respective music television stations (here in Canada we have 2 - MuchMusic and Musique Plus which is based out of Montreal).
The ratings will be a combination of the song's quality as well as the video itself.
A few minutes ago on MuchMusic...
Maroon 5 - She Will Be Loved - 9/10

Wow, this sure is a successful thread, isn't it? ;)
Anyway, last music video I saw:
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Y Control" (on this site: )
It's an okay song, sure. Although, with it's light sounding atmosphere, it feels completely out of place on the fucked up video (it was directed by Spike Jonze, apparently). The video is kinda disturbing, but also a little funny, in a twisted kind of way. I'd give it an 8/10.

While channel surfing this morning, killing time before school..
Taking Back Sunday - A Decade Under The Influence
7/10
Nothing much to it. The song was decent but I really loved the lighting.
Beastie Boys - Triple Trouble
9/10
This video is hilarious, something with the image of Sasquatch on Mapquest..

That sasquatch is too funny. I love the way he flips out when one of the Beastie Boys starts ragging on him on the red carpet. And that Mapquest sequence is pure GOLD! Very creative video.
I give that video an 8/10 easily.
PS: I caught the Float On video by Modest Mouse again this weekend and it just gets more brilliant every time I see it.
It will easily be my favorite video of 2004. Followed closely by Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out.
Both a 10/10.

Green Day - American Idiot
I wasn't too hot on this song before seeing this video but hell man, seeing Billy Joe wail away on his guitar like Strummer reincarnated and some groovy slow mo tracking shots make this a kick ass vid and song.

I hate GLC with a vengeance so you'd have to pay me to watch the video even if it was a masterstroke of wit.
The Razorlight song and video are both perfect. I anticipate that these guys are going to be big providing they don't suffer from difficult second album syndrome. Vice is an ace tune though. Kicks in all Mary Chain style before settling into a Pulpesque groove.
The Killers' All The Things That I Have Done is simply the song of the year so far. Both the song and the video are perfect. Both are capable of sending multiple shivers up the spine. An absolute anthem...in the best sense.
Embrace's Gravity is a fantastic return. Always loved Embrace and have been listening to their first two albums constantly to prepare for seeing them live at the end of the month. I even managed to talk a friend into coming with me by hitting her with the "it was written by Chris Martin what is with that Colplay band you like so much" line. Really looking forward to the new album.
So...some scores.
Goldie Looking Chain - 1/10
Razorlight - 8/10
The Killers - 10/10
Embrace - 9/10

i only heard it for the first time today and it was one of those song's that just smacked me in the face and made me want to listen to it again straight away,i am planning on buying the album on pay day as i love this and mr brightside.
embrace live, you will love it great live band so many anthem's to sing along to. i wanted to go to see them here but it sold out straight away, but am hoping as its such a small venue they are planning a bigger tour later in the year.
am pretty sure that is chris martin in the gravity video playing the piano so you could tell your friend he's now part of the band.

Lloyd Banks- Im So Fly 7/10
A stupid video that tries to make him look like a wanted man by the police but is just boring mostly becuase of the song. A few good parts of it, though.
B Gizzle- If You Want It 7/10
An Ok normal rap vid.
Shyne Fet. Ashanti- Jimmy Choo 9/10
The good part of the video is that Shyne, the incarcinated rapper, is rapping on a video from prison. The hot ashanti also makes it good, stealing most of the screen time. Well done considering the artist is in prison.

Just watched some stuff on Yahoo "Launch":
Green Day - "American Idiot" (6/10 - cool song, generic video - but at least a generic video is better than a horrible one)
Story of the Year - "Anthem Of Our Dying Day" (5/10 - the singer sounds EXACTLY like the non-screaming singer in Alexisonfire - also, the video seems highly angsty)
I started watching Tool's video for "Prison Sex" as well, but the computer fucked up on me for a bit, so I had to stop it. The video looked like it might be pretty creepy, from what I saw of it.

Good Charlotte - "Predictable" - I could make an incredibly easy joke about how the shittyness of the song makes the title appropriate, considering the band. Actually, fuck it, I'll take the easy joke. 2/10 (that 2 being for the video being sorta original, for this band anyway)

Sum 41 - "We're All To Blame" - The song's merely average, but the video is fucking irritating due to it's running joke; oh, there's a male among the mostly female dancers who acts like a flaming homosexual? How clever! And it gets even funnier the 50-fucking-thousandth time it's shown! Still, the song's okay, but the video is just annoying. 4/10.

A Perfect Circle - "Imagine" - I liked it. Did anyone else who saw this video find the talking baby dolls a tad creepy, though (or am I just a wuss)?

Coheed and Cambria 'Blood Red Summer' (9/10)
Good song, and I really like the video. It is sort of like a zombie flick, with the lead singer at a cabin trying to defend himself from his now zombie bandmates.

Ah jeez, I don't think I've seen a music video in well over a year.
How do you guys get to see them? Besides MTV's obvious lack of music video playing, even MTV2's.
Then again, I haven't been that big of fan of music videos all together, with the exception of a few.

Jimmy Eat World "Work"-10/10
I enjoy the song, and the way it goes with the setting and feeling of the high school and interviewing the kids is awesome too. The reason why i probably love this video so much is because i can relate to it really well, going to graduate this year and all!

MuchMusic (the Canadian equivalent of MTV) still plays videos. Also, there are internet sites that have music videos (i.e. http://music.yahoo.com/).
For me:
Eminem - "Like Toy Soldiers" - the best song on the album, in my opinion. Good video, too. 8/10.
The Killers - "Mr. Brightside" - the video's just okay, but the song's really good. 8/10.
Gwen Stefani feat. Eve - "Rich Girl" - ugh. The song was shit, and the video wasn't very good either. 2/10.
