The Ultimate Music Tournament

Well I've been wanting to do this for a while, and figured what the hell, maybe I will. I realize that there is already a couple 'ultimate band' tournaments floating around in the music forums (and hopefully this won't get closed) but they seem to be pretty much dead now and I wanted to do something a bit different. What I want to do is get everyone (or everyone who wishes to participate anyway) to give a list of bands/artists who they want to see participate in the tournament. They don't even have to be artists you like...if you want to see your most hated band get crushed by somone else by all means put 'em in. If this idea doesn't fly that's cool....I'll go quietly cry in the corner. But anyway, to get us started (hopefully you'll join....) here's a list of bands I want in....and just some off the top of my head.

I won't close it if you do. But the music boards are starting to get a bit bogged down with all the best/worst/tournament threads. I asked Joblo if it was possible for a sub-forum to be created solely for these kind of threads. He said no. Music isn't even close to being the main focus of these forums so it's just not gonna happen.

I'll pose a question though. If you do start a heavy metal tournament then someone could start a best dance music tournament and someone could start a best rap artist tournament and someone could start a best Bavarian folk band tournament...etc...etc...etc. Where does it end?

I feel that to an extent discussion of music is becoming a secondary consideration in favour of these tournaments and best/worst threads (i'll admit that i've been guilty of being lazy in terms of starting interesting new threads myself lately...I plan to change that over the course of the next two weeks).

Anyway...rant over. Feel free to open a Best Metal thread if you wish. It's not exactly the same as this thread so I can't and won't close it.

If one_crow_sorrow wants too he can take all the metal bands out of this tourney. I doubt bands like Slayer, Megadeth, Acid Bath, Pantera, etc.... have a chance to advance past the first round and they would only waste space and if he did that it would let the tournament move faster. I only tempted too because everyone voting here is not really a fan of metal and I personally feel that bands like The Cult, Jethro Tull, and Adam and The Ants do not come close to creating songs like Hallowed Be Thy Name, Stinkfist, or Master Of Puppets. Besides I feel that their are enough Metal fans here that would participate in such a thread. More than a rap, hip hop, country, Baivarian folk, crunk, pop, mathcore or Gangsta Power Metal tournament would get.

Some of the bands that are in matches now I'm not too familiar with, and some I haven't heard anything from at all. Some of the later matches have bands that I'm more familiar with, and once we get into later rounds, there will be a lot more. I know I said at the beginning of the tournament that we didn't have to have even heard of the band, but it doesn't seem right to vote for, say, The Smiths/The Stone Roses based on who has the better name.
