Back in March I made a thread about my movie "The Woods", it is the basic horror movie, but I am extremley proud of how well the movie was made. Anyways when I wrote the script I had to keep it under 80 pages so we could make the whole thing. Well now I am rewriting it as if I was going to make it in the future if I was a director. It is the same storyline but I am making things more in depth and a lot darker.
Characters:
Jake Ross...Main character, the one who goes through the changes and he makes us ask "should we root for him or not?".
Katy Ross...Jake's sister, the two are extremley close because the closeness of ages between them. She has her own little subplot.
Mike Moran...Jake's childhood friend, does a lot of drugs with Jake and parties with him constantly.
Alex Johnston...Jake's ex girlfriend who is not what she seems but we quickly learn. Her and Jake have a very important subplot which has a lot to do with Jake's emotional stage.
Maya Fleming...Friend of group, really likes Jake and one of those people who are so nice they make you angry. I want her to represent the innocence even though she isn't totally innocent, ie: drugs, sex, etc.
Alicia Hudson...Held captive by the antagonists of the film for weeks, comes to the aid of the group when all hell breaks loose. Jake and her will have a little subplot, mainly trust but nothing huge.
"The Men" is what I call them. They are just two men who attack this group for no reason. We never totally explain their logic but Jake hints at it in the climax. They are not mutants, all they do is paint their faces black to hide idenities. Don't worry we don't show closeups of them. They will mostly be in faraway shots and in silouettes. More like a presece I guess, even though they are a huge part of it the real sickness comes from Jake. He does things that a human would do in that situation but a little more depraved.
PLOT:
Starts at a party early in morning. Jake and Mike are too wired to even consider sleeping. The whole party Jake glares at Alex, we do not say why because I want people to think what the hell is his problem with her. Katy is there as well but not getting high or anything, she seems to be there for Jake's support, she states in the script that she is scared when he is around Alex because she feels that he is unstable and even capable of really hurting her. Of course we don't say why until way later. Maya is there too, she wants to go hang out with all of them, so gradually they think up some plans. Throughout the party every character will give hints of what is to come for them. And of course this is also to setup everything and for us to know the characters.
It does not start out dark at all, in fact almost every sentence is either a cuss word or a wise crack because I pictured my friends as them and thats what we do. Jake, Mike, and Maya are into drugs bad, Jake just recently started them again after the events that messed him up with Alex two months before. He knows it too, but a lot of my friends into drugs admit they are dumb but do it anyways. I did this because I want every character to have something about them that is considered bad even though bad is different to different people, but really just to give the a lot of flaws just like real people.
Jake decides that they should all go mess around at his deceased grandfather's 5000 acre woods. The majority being wired or high think its great and the others just go for the ride. Katy reveals to Jake that they have to babysit their year old niece that day. He then says when he is around the baby he is to do nothing and happily agrees to it. I want Jake to really be attached to children and babies which is all pretty explained later on. He is actually great with the baby, she loves him to death and he would do anything for her. I have a niece in real life and the same applies for me too. Stuff happens to setup their reason for being trapped in the woods, since this is such a stereotypical think for these movies I tried to make it funny. The rest is them going to the woods and a lot of character development, the first actual horror scene isnt until page 60 but don't worry I made it as messed up as possible. I setup scenes of tension between Katy, Jake, and Alex but never reveal why until later on. At first I really want people to think Alex is getting picked on for no reason, but like I said her true self comes out later. Mike, Jake, and Maya end up doing shrooms, weed, and Maya does exctasy with it. At first everything is fun for them, Alex walks up and makes some snide comments to Maya because she likes Jake and Alex still does too. Being so emotional from the drugs Maya becomes a wreck. She decides she needs to pee and wanders away, she is so messed up that she pees on herself without knowing till later, during all of this she is constantly belittling herself and making mean comments to herself. She then sees someone waving for her to follow, being messed up she goes thinking it is Jake or Mike messing around. She stumbles onto the dead grandpa's 3 story haybarn. She wanders in.
In the barn the character Alicia lays tied up, she is bruised, cut, and raped and has been there for a few weeks, she has a dream that reveals how she got there later on as well. Maya continues to explore, throughout this she will have pov shots of her messed up perception ie: when being chased the objects in the barn start to crawl up the ceiling. On her way out she sees a porcelain doll sitting on the bottom step to the third floor, she walks to get it but it slowly goes up backwards, to her though it looks like it is moving even though one of the men is pulling it. When she reaches she wanders into a room that we do not show until the climax, we just see her reaction to it. Eventually she is trapped, beat, and raped by one of the men with a knife which he proceeds to lick afterwards. Her blood trickles down the floorboards and lands directly on Alicia's forhead which awakens her, for the rest of the movie she has the blood stain on her head.
The othes get worried of course, they consider cops getting involved in finding Maya but Katy points out that they will all be busted for drugs if they do so they decide against it. Eventually Jake and Alex go out together to look for her. This is when we reveal what happened. Now throughout the movie we know Jake hates Alex, at first it seems like post breakup bitching, but we slowly show that something happened with them that was really serious and the results of it really messed Jake up in the head. In this scene Jake tells her that she makes him worried because every time he sees her he wants to slam her face to the ground and watch her in pain. He knows how wrong that is, but he cannot help it. Well it turns out when they were dating, which was for over 2 years she got pregnant, she wanted the abortion, he didn't, he told her to wait till they came up with an agreeement in which she said she would wait. 2 days later she got the abortion and he went bezerk. She tells him all of the logical reasons for it ie: monet, college, etc. but he says that he knows the real reason which was she didn't want to stop socializing and get fat. He reveals he heard this in a conversation he wasn't meant to hear. Her cover being exposed Alex cannot say anything anymore about it. This is when we see her true self. Jake and Alex almost end up having sex but Jake stops it and tells her that he hates her for being so manipulative. They fight a lot more and Jake warns her to leave before he physically hurts her.
The group meets up again and the tension gets to tense that Katy ends up vomiting, she turns out to be pregnant making Jake say"this is too much shit for one day". Being that Jake is also on many drugs he is coming down which of course makes this whole situation even worse in his brain. Mike offers a cigarrette to calm him down and Jake says that he only smokes those when he is truly happy about something he did. More fighting goes on and night falls. The men at the barn know of the rest and end of plotting an ambush on them. Jake and Mike are tricked into leaving the girls alone, the other man attacks Alex first, Katy tries to help and Alex actually purposely throws Katy in front of her which leads to her death. Jake sees all this but when he was running back to help he tripped into a trap of barbwire scratching his body up everywhere so he was helpless. When out of the trap Jake goes directly to Alex and slams her against a tree almost killing her. The rest of the movie she is a huge bitch who does not care for anyone buy herself. Jake's niece is stolen so they all have to stay in the woods. Alex wants to go back to the car but Jake says "try it, you won't make 1 mile" and Jake is the only one who knows the wood areas and he won't let anyone leave until he gets back his niece. Eventually Alicia escapes and meets up with the others, they communicate with walkie talkies she found in the barn. More chracter development is put here and Alicia ends up helping them out a lot. In the end they all think of a plan that gets them back the baby. These scenes are here to show Jake getting his "revenge" in which he enjoys a little too much. After stabbing one of the men for a scene that I want to last minutes he stands there with blood all over his face admiring his handywork, he pulls out a cigarette and lights it up. He only smokes to celebrate. Eventually Mike gets killed saving the baby and Alicia. Alex and Jake get into a huge fight in which Alex ditches all of them. Jake just lets her go knowing she will get lost or killed. When he gets the baby back he tells Alicia to stay in one area because he still has to get the other man. On his way he stumbles upon Mike's dead body, he finds all the drugs and takes a lot making his eyes bloodshot and his actions totally messed up. He then finds Alex who is lying on the ground with a knife in her stomach, the man stabbed her and left her for dead. She pleads for him to help her in which he squats to her with an emotionless face, he pulls the knife out of her, kisses her on the forehead, puts the knife in her hands and says "Sweet Dreams babe" and leaves her there to kill herself, as he walks away he hears her screams as she commits suicide, as he hears this he smiles. The climax is set in the barn and it is a chase scene between Jake and the man. We reveal the room Maya saw and Jake runs into Katy's dead body in there as well leaving him more angry. Jake ends up taunting the man by trying to psycholically disecting him, while doing this the man listens to him. It all leads to more chase stuff, and one of Jake's talents was being the best in his gymnast class. Don't worry it's not going to be like The Lost World, its mainly for comedy use in the beginning, he even referecnes that the movie THE WAR OF THE ROSES made him want to be a gymnast. Anyways Jake ends up getting messed up pretty badly but he kills the man and he sighs his relief until he realizes still that things are shitty. He ends up going back to Alicia and the go back to the car, a deer hunter stops for them to help. The baby actually ends up dying from what it went through and the constant jerking around with it, ie:brain damage, etc. Alicia cries and Jake just looks up and acts like nothing happened. When the hunter gets out of his truck we see that he has a gun sitting on his passenger seat, when the hunter goes to phone for help we focus that the gun is gone, the hunter realizes only to hear Alicia scream and a gunshot, Jake shoots himself in the head and dies instantly and we end the movie with Alicia only alive with a dead baby corpse and the hunter.
I wanted it to make it as dark and depressing as possible because too many movies these days chicken out of that sort of thing. So uh anyways, if you actually read all of this tell me what you think. It would be greatly appreciated.
