Has anyone seen this black and white movie starring James Stewart? It's about a man who sees an invisible(or is it?) six-foot rabbit. When his sister attempts to have him committed to a mental institute everything turns out the way it isn't suppose to and the fun begins. I couldn't help to notice the similarity between the plot of this movie and that of Donnie Darko, who also sees a large rabbit. This movie is a good reminder of why some black and white classics fascinate me.

It's about a man who sees an invisible(or is it?) six-foot rabbit.

I believe that the rabbit was very visible to Stewart's characters (whose name escapes me). But considering he didnt exsist he was invisible to everyone else.

What did it for me in this film, was the terrific acting my James Stewart, which is funny considering as I heard on TCM (after the movie) he thought his performance was bad, and latter did some live stage productions of it much darker. Regardless I think its terrific. 9/10

I loved James Stewart in the movie, but didn't like it as much as I had hoped. Not a whole lot actually happens in the movie and the story wasn't all that interesting to me, which hampered it a bit

*********SPOILER********

I thought it was interesting that the two couples in the film(Elwood's niece and the worker from the mental intitution and Dr. stevenson and his secretary) don't see the rabbit. Yet, the characters in the film who seem to be lonley or seem to be missing something from their lives(Dr. chumley(the head of the mental institution) Elwood's sister and of course Elwood himself) do see it.

*******ANOTHER SPOILER*********

I got a kick from the ending, too. Each charcter is shown with their real name and the name of the character they played in the movie is listed below. When it comes to Harvey it simply says that he played himself.
