Is kazaa illegal? and if it is illegal could I get in trouble for downloading from kazaa?

Kazaa is not illegal. Downloading Music, Movies, or anything else that is Copyrighted IS illegal.

You have more potential getting sued for UPLOADING/SHARING than you do for DOWNLOADING.

That's my understanding anyways. I could be wrong since I...uh...don't download (checks to see if "The Village" is done yet....Dammit! Fake File!")

I have NO idea. I would imagine whoever made it has rights over whether to distribute it for free or not.

All I know is, my roommate used to use Kazaa, and when he started, freaky stuff started happening on his computer. Because basically you give other people access to your computer.

Very easy way to catch viruses and eventually have your computer crash.

I'm not trying to use scare tactics here. I'm just saying, I hope you have a damn good anti-virus. AFter I saw how it f-ed up my friend's computer, I never used it.

Yeah, kazaa is notorius for viruses, and spyware/adware. I PAY for Kazaa, so I dont worry about any of that stuff.

Currently the biggest worry with downloading, like said before, is the "sharing and uploading" that people do. The US Government is going after people who share there files so a simple way around it to feel better would be to disable sharing. But that does go against the whole idea. If everyone disabled sharing, there would be nothing to download!

There has been a steady drop in sharing with Kaaza over the years. Used to be a time where 5 million people were connected at any givin day but thats been cut in half over the last year or so.

Before Jonny Law started to come down on it all I loved to download stuff. My interest is pretty much over now since the fakes became greater than the real.

Bit Torrent was mentioned and that is a GREAT way to download. I use it for entire concerts of bands that ALLOW taping and trading of thier music (New Earth Mud, The Black Crowes) It can take a while but the quality is well worth it for me.

It's not? I wasted so much money on that police scanner and gun... I should probably put it to good use...perhaps I will go to the crime scenes and arrive before the police...and serve my own brand of justice (aka death), and they shall call me....

sorry, got a little off topic there. i just want to take a moment to thank kazaa for all its porn providing, and fake music files that scare the shit out of me. i dont know what id do without it...

what about if you joined a bit torrent group like
Suprnova.org - paid for a life time membership
which isn't all bad, but my question is, does paying
for a service where you can download movies
and it's ilk make it legal, or is it still illegal?

Sorry for being so dumb, but I am curious.

Just unshare all your files....I think that will be enough to get you in trouble. But then again I may not know what I'm talking about.

I joined one of those Bit Torrent places...gave them 20 bucks for my "lifetime" membership...They promised the world when it came to downloading movies but I never was able to download one full thing and it went out of business 5 months later.

If I share a film I made or music I wrote on Kazaa its not illegal to download it (and not illegal for me to share it) but it is illegal to share copyright material.

And we cant forget the "back up copy" back door. If you own any file already on record, tape, whatever, its perfectly fine to have a second copy of it.
