Having just read this at Moviehole.net - http://www.moviehole.net/news/4210.html - I'm wondering what other people think of David Boraneaz as the Man of Steel? Apologies if the casting of the new Superman is old and tired news - I'm only new.:)

Honestly, I'm not much on the idea of David Boreanaz playing the man of steel. My current fav at the moment, is Jim Caviezel. Before Caviezel, it was Jude Law (who was pursued for the role, but dropped out due to a 3 picture agreement in the contract).

I've read that Singer is still looking for an unknown for the role. Well, good luck finding lightning in a bottle. With an unknown that will be just as good, or better than Christopher Reeves was.
Boreanaz may have the 'look' more than Caviezel, but I would rather have Caviezel who could atleast pass for the role (like Keaton did with Batman), but have the acting ability to pull it off, and make you believe.

itd be a mistake to cast him as superman, the main reason being he cant act

They could always rope in Angel alumni Alexis Denisof to play Clark Kent leaving the wearing jockstrap outside tights gig to Boreanaz.

I have to disagree with you on that one.

I used to think Boraneaz was the biggest pretty boy in the world until I actually started watching his work on buffy and Angel earlier this year. Now I think he is one of the better actors out there. He shows a huuuuge range through his character of Angel and he deserves a break thru movie role.

The Crow 4 will prolly do that though.

I LOVE DAvid, probably more than a man should, but he just iusnt right for Supes.

I don't think he has the look.

Caviezel is just sooooo perfect for the role.

You need to go watch ANGEL or something, Boreanaz is a very good actor.

When compared to Freddie Prinze Jnr or Scott Speedman perhaps.

He certainly isn't fit to lace Jim Caviezel's shoes however.

I've seen an episode of Angel and found Boreanaz to be, quite frankly, pretty bland. Not horrible, just bland.

But even if I did like him I still don't see him as Superman.

Well, come on, you cant judge it just from ONE episode.

Your right. He could probably be decent with good writing and a good director I could see how he might be decent.

After all it wasn't just him, even Eliza Dushku, who I usually like, wasn't very good. So it was probably a writing and directing thing.

But it's like I said though, I still can't see him as Superman.

I always thought Boreanaz would look great in the bat suit

No. Just....no. In fact, I oppose the idea of Caviezel being Superman. Fuck looks, Caviezel is uncharismatic. Almost every character he plays acts like a peaceful wuss. In fact, the only display of charisma that I've seen in this guy was that scene in POTC with him joking around with Mary.

I'd substitute "peaceful wuss" for soulful.

Superman is from another planet he's supposed to be other worldly & Caviezel fits the bill in spades.

Boreanaz is a 2nd rater. As such he'd be perfect for Aquaman;)

Well I'm not going to argue. Boreanaz would probably make a decent Captain Marvel or something. But personally, I dont see him as Superman.

Cannot understand this logic. If this were true, I dont believe Gibson would have put Caviezel in the position of playing Jesus. Have to give Gibson more credit than to cast a so called uncharismatic actor in what was undoubtedly, the most important role in the film. Not to mention, one of the most controversial films in recent memory.

If we cant agree on Caviezel, what about Christopher Walken as Superman? :D ;)

What, is Mel Gibson infalible now? Gimme a break. Caviezel isn't charismatic. Caviezel makes people say "aaaw". That's what was needed in POTC, that's what was needed in The Thin Red Line. Do you seriously want to go "awww" at SUPERMAN?

It's the role he was born to play. Walken can do anything.

I love David Boreanaz (in a non prison movie type of way) but I gotta agree i don't think he's right for the role of super-man. Still I'm hoping he gets linked to a big movie kinda soon, the guy has potential to kick some serious ass on teh big screen.

Boreanaz is pretty much small fish as far as the big screen goes which makes me a little unsure of the casting, however when you think about the fact that Hugh Jackman was practically an unknown (except down here, of course) when Singer cast him as Wolverine, I feel a little more excited. He did pull of some pretty impressive stuff as Angel (and some pretty mediocre stuff as well). Perhaps with Singer calling the shots it could be his 'X-Men'.

fair enough, but i have to disagree. from what ive seen of him on buffy, angel and the terrible Valentine, he doesnt have much of a range, either playing a wimp or trying to be tough, the only 2 types of character he played it buffy and angel. and from what i saw in Valentine, cant handle a movie role

I suggest you see "The Count of Monte Cristo".

I agree that Caviezel is more likely to take 'sensitive' roles. But Jim's sensitivity serves him well in the first half of "The Count of Monte Cristo", when he plays Edmond Dantes, a guileless soul who is betrayed by his best friend - and who takes years while in prison even to realize the depth to which he has been betrayed.

Fortunately, in the second half of the film he emerges as the suave Count of Monte Cristo, who is both brave and conniving. What follows, are scenes of The Count carefully planning out his revenge on those who betrayed him.

Not exactly an individual that would make a person go "awww".

And I never said Gibson was infalible. Actually, I'm not even much of a Gibson fan. but I have to give him credit for excellent casting, as well as an superb film.

Topic... oh yea....

Boreanez would make a fine Superman. Yea, people see him as Angel, but even tho he's played that role for... oh... 8 year, more people will see Caveizel as Jesus.

I'd rather watch a movie and go "Cool... SuperAngel", than "Whoa... SuperJesus!!".

As far as acting goes, how can you say Jim is any worse or better than David? They've both hindged their careers on playing moody, down characters. Jim hasn't (to me) really shone in anything, cept maybe Angel Eyes (see the connection?). And David has done some great work with the Angel character, so who am I to judge? (nobody that's who)

Now, I know I'll be jumped on for dissing "Jesus", but I'm not... even tho that movie was HORRIBLE... I'm not slamming Jim. He's a good actor, but I think going with David would be a better choice right now... unless all you want is name recognition (and that's usually the case), then by all means, go with Jesus.

I've seen Jim Caviezel in Angel Eyes, Frequency, High Crimes and Count Of Monte Christo. I thought he was terrible in all of them. He stunk like bad fish in HC especially. I haven't seen Passion Of The Christ, but I'm not religious and thus the movie doesn't interest me much.

But is Superman all that much of an acting stretch? I mean, come on, Dean Cain played him! All the actor playing Superman needs is to look good in a skin-tight outfit. I don't want to knock the character, but I doubt another Hollywood movie about the guy is going to be all that big on character development. Hell, half of it will probably be CGI anyway.

Anyway, Boreanaz isn't exactly young.

William Munny

Boreanz is many things as a young actor, but unfortunately for him Superman should not become one of them.

I've got my chips down for Caviezel getting the role.

Dont get me wrong I love David and I love Angel and Buffy but he is just not right.

He is too stocky and short.

Supes needs to be tallish and more lean than bulky.

That is were I think Jim C. would fit, but I am not sure about him either, but I would take him over David.

And if you haven't seen Monte Cristo you need to hang you head in shame!

Sure the movie was nothing like the book but it still rocked, love revenge flicks!

If you really want a good revenge read then you have to read the book, make sure to get the unabridged version.

Too bad they couldn't make that version as he is ultra bad ass in the book.
