Actually, there are two movies that I only remember very vaguely. I only saw parts of each one, both when I was pretty young, and I think one or both of them is very obscure.

One was a horror film shot in black and white. Seemed kind of artsy. I don't even know if it was a short film, part of an anthology, or a feature. I saw it on cable. I don't remember there being any dialogue. There was this woman alone in a house with a ventriloquist dummy. The dummy had come to life--you never saw it walking around, but I think there were POV shots, and it kept turning up in different parts of the house. The woman, terrified, is trying to hide from it. She gets down on the floor and peers through the crack under a door, and the dummy is lying on its side, looking in at her. This must sound utterly ridiculous, but what little I saw of this film scared the living crap out of me.

The other film started, I believe, with a woman in the obstetrics ward giving birth to a really hairy baby. That's all I saw. But, once again, disturbed the hell out of me.

I'd be very much interested in tracking either of these down, but have no idea what they were. Do you?

Hmm... I know the first one, it was a short movie lasting about 20 minutes. There was indeed no dialogue, just a strange music, I clearly remember the "door" thing, very creepy, the smile on the face of the dummy...
Problem is, can't find the title.

You're not. I've been doing some googling since my post and found a few mentions of the short movie. But nobody seems to remember the title. I'm giving up, hopefully some schmoe will have it :)

I would have to say that the black and white dummy flick was an episode of The Twilight Zone.

Thats what I'd say if a gun was at my temple.

Twilight zone was exactly what i was going to say. I was thinking that maybe it was the episode where the old woman keeps seeing the little alien looking guy all over her house. It turns out that the little alien guy was an American astronaut on a different planet and she was the giant alien. That is what came to mind right away.

I don't remember that episode, but it sounds cool as heck! But I do specifically remember the dummy puppet, the woman going about her business, looking over at the dummy... did the dummy move a little from the last time she saw it? And the scene where she looks under the door, and theres the dummy on the floor- looking right back at her. My memory of what he is citing is specifically about a marionette puppet, or ventriloquist's (man how do you spell that) puppet. Most likely the latter. Its probably why to this day I can't stand looking at the things and had to keep my GI Joe collection to the 5.5 inch figures rather than the 12 inchers with the real clothes ;).
