Okay so, I had seen "The Eye" about four-five months ago and I decided that it was (and still is) the scariest movie I had ever seen.

When I saw that it was in theaters, I decided that the experience there should be great so I called some of my friends and dragged them there.

So, when the movie started, with the creepy "hands-on-white-sheet" background. Two seconds into it, the title, "THE EYE" appears. That second, the reel goes wrong and it gets burnt. Everyone went "What the hell? Is that on purpose??" I went "No . . . something went wrong with the projector". After abouta minute, everyone was waiting for it to be fixed when BAM! A red woman's FACE appears on screen with a loud SCREAM. Everyone in the theater YELPED like five year old girls (including me). Then, the words "Sit tight . . . " appear on screen. Everyone was frozen and when the movie continued, they were all clapping.

I was like "THAT'S THE COOLEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!" . . . then the movie started . . . what an experience.

Any other movie that adds a little to its experience in theaters? (except those William Castle movies in the 50s)

Even though this isnt a horror movie, I went to see Independence Day in the theater 8 years ago and the screen would go white and things would go silent for about 15 seconds between big scenes. Then there would be this loud BOOM before it would go back to the movie.

Wait, do you guys mean that the movies were diferent when you watched them in the theaters of just that they had a different effect?

I had the fortune of seeing The Eye in theaters and what an experience it was, but I don`t remember it being different from the one on the DVD.

I said I don`t remember and that hardly counts as a fact.
Actually I remember seeing the "sit tight" text in the cinema, but it had been some time from seeing it on the DVD, so I didn`t actually remember it being different. Probably because I just didn`t remember enough. When the hands were touching the screen I was like: "Was this a part of the movie" and then I remembered: "Yeah, there was something like that at the beginning". So you`re probably right about it being different.

Well the DVD version I have (from Tartan Asia UK) has what you describe, Nightcrawler me old boy.

It starts with the hands going across the white screen, burns as if the film was ruined, there's a pause, then there's a loud bang and the face turns up. Then silence again, then another bang, a red face and a scream, followed by the words "Sit Tight..." in a red font.

Seems like this is the fella you want if you want the full Eye experience in your living room:
