Dougray Scott

It was reported in British tabloid The Daily Mirror this morning, and looks to be official.

Here's my scan of the paper...

"Dougray Scott is to be the new James Bond.

He has beaten an army of rivals including HULK star Eric Bana plus fellow Brits including Clive Owen and Ioan Gruffud to take over from cinema's most famous role from Pierce Brosnan.

Scott, 38, will be the 7th actor to play Bond on the big screen and is set to make his first appearance in the 23rd Bond film, due for release next year.
Bosses at Eon Productions chose Dougray after deciding they wanted a return to a brooding Bond in the mould of original star Sir Sean Connery.

One source said: "Bosses believe Dougray will be the perfect Bond".
The Scottish actor won his role after discussions with Barbara Broccoli, producer of the long running spy series. She wants to return 007 to his films roots.

A source revealed: "Producers have been eager to take Bond back to the broody and sexy figure that Sean was so brilliant at.
Obviously it's not possible for Sean to return at his age, so they have been looking for a young actor with similar characteristics.
Since then Barbara and Dougray have been in talks - and she believes he will be the perfect new 007 for the 21st Century".

Sources say that Scott is thrilled at the prospect of taking over the most successful role in cinema history.

Brosnan announced in July that he would not be appearing as Bond again, saying "That's it. I've said all I've got to say on the world of James Bond".

I'm sure what my opinion on this is yet. Eh, we'll see. At least it's not Orlando Bloom, god that was a scary prospect.

A solid choice.

But is Daily mirror a reliable source? Isn't it a tabloid paper?

I'm not sure how reliable a source the shite that is the Daily Mirror, but Dougray is a fine choice

Gotta hope this story is false.

Dougray Scott is almost as big a ladyboy as Orlando Bloom

I'll remain open minded. It's definately not a bad choice, but one that will require us to see him playing the part, in order to make a good judgement.

I can definately imagine him playing a more brooding Bond, which is a good thing in my opinion.

Bond needs a change of direction, it's a stale franchise.

I hope Hugh Jackman steals his role. AGAIN.

It will be interesting to see if he can pull it off. I have like the 007 movies for years.

Good choice i say. The fact that the producers want to go back to the old style Bond is probably even better news. I'm actually looking forward to the next one now. Clive Owen, while looking the part, i've come to realise is not charming enough to be a James Bond. And maybe a bit young. This works much better.

The article got atleast one thing wrong. It said the next Bond movie is the 23rd one, but it's actually the 21st Bond flick!

I think they were counting Casino Royale & Never Say Never Again in the equation.

Bond has been dead for awhile , but they could have at least revived him temporarily with Owen in the role . So this news to me is , wait , zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz .

After seeing RE 2 , my choice is for Milla or Sienna , they couldnt do worse .

Here is a section from a report from Dark Horizons which gives a glimmer of hope that Pierce Brosnan might not be over quite yet:

So how solid is this? On the one hand this is the British tabloid press (and the Mirror after all) which has printed many a rumour about who has been cast as Bond and there is no official confirmation or quotes from MGM/Eon sources. On the other they usually indicate someone is 'rumoured' for the part whereas this seems certain. For the moment, best be dubious until Eon comments.

In any case don't give up on Pierce Brosnan yet. The actor told LACM that the now infamous Entertainment Weekly quote "Bond is another lifetime, behind me" which kicked up all the casting rumours may have simply been a quote out of context - "There was no announcement. I think the reporter heard it wrong. I think what I said was, 'I've had my fill of talking about Bond'. It was not an official announcement".

Hmm. Well, I'm hoping this news doesn't hold any truth whatsoever, because Dougray Scott isn't a very exciting choice. Give me Eric Bana, or Hugh Jackman, or Clive Owen instead. I've said it quite a few times already, if the decision were up to me, Clive Owen definitely would be my ideal choice for the role.

Eric Bana or Clive Owens either one. I just for some reason can not see Hugh Jackman as 007. When they was talking about Jude Law, I said I couldn't see him either. Then again who knows. You don't know until they get the part and see them in that role.

I was thinking in order to pump some life into this franchise , make a woman 007 in the next one , but yeah my interest level would be a bit higher if Sienna was at least his partner .

Clive Owen looks like a malignant, take-no-prisoners sociopath, not suave agent James Bond. The only way I could imagine Owen asking for "shaken, not stirred", would be right before he breaks the glass the drink is in and cuts off the bartender's neck with the bits.

I can't stand Dougray Scott but I'm hoping he gets the part...

Why? Because I share a love-hate relationship with the casting of Bond films. Pierce Brosnan has proven, in his four outings as 007, that he was the perfect choice for the role...he plays suave, sophisticated and stylish to a tee........but what's left after 007?

I'll tell you what's left....he'll just keep pumping out different variations on suave, sophisticated and stylish (Thomas Crown Affair, Tailor of Panama, the upcoming After the Sunset, etc.) until he runs that into the ground.

Just be glad if a promising actor like Hugh Jackman or Clive Owen doesn't make the cut....at least they'll have interesting careers.

Here's hoping Pierce moves on to greener (and more varied) pastures...

Making her 007 would be incredibly stupid, since Bond has and always will have a penis.

But I wouldn't have a problem with her taking on the role of another Double-0 agent....can you say "0069"?

:D

You sure you're not typecasting him for a film that hasnt even come out yet , Sin City ? Check him out in Bent , Greenfingers , and Croupier , and you'll see he's pretty much perfect for Bond , he has much more depth than Brosnan , and from what i recall Bond is supposed to have a bit of a sociopathic side until they made him all feminine with Brosnan .

well I don't wanna doubt Scott's magic he will bring when he takes over. The only movies that hes done that comes to mind when I think of him is Mission:Impossible 2 and Ever After. But yeah I kinda prefer to see Clive Owen doing it though he has said he doesn't want it.

William Munny

He doesn't want it becuase he'll be typecast into that steriotype of suave that Pierce has fallen into...

Good decision on Clive Owen's part.

You have point , because it seems the only other Bonds that went on to have an excellent career after the part was Connery , all the others pretty much faded into obscurity after .

I have the feeling he will play him eventually , but there are still some more roles he would like to tackle first . Maybe when he's around 45 , if the role is vacant , he'll take it on .
