Simpson Puts Up Her 'Dukes' for First Feature Role

By Borys Kit

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Pop star Jessica Simpson (news) has been cast as Daisy Duke in the big-screen remake of "The Dukes of Hazzard," a project that essentially marks her feature film debut.

Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville already had been cast as Bo and Luke Duke, respectively, in the Warner Bros. project. Jay Chandrasekhar is directing. A start date has not yet been set.

The series, which ran on CBS from 1979 to 1985, followed the weekly adventures of southern cousins Bo and Luke -- "just two good ol' boys, never meaning no harm," according to the Waylon Jennings theme song -- who raised hell driving their souped-up Dodge Charger, the General Lee, in fictional Hazzard County. They, along with their cousin Daisy and Uncle Jesse, staged running battles with the corrupt authorities, Boss Hogg and Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane.

Pop star Simpson shot to fame when her marital misadventures with fellow singer and husband, Nick Lachey (news), aired on MTV's "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica." She has played herself in countless TV appearances and had a guest starring run on "That '70s Show." On the big screen, she played herself in the 2002 feature "The Master of Disguise."

I would have thought Knoxville & Scott would have been better cast as Boss Hogg & Rosco P. Coltrane respectively.

As for Simpson as Cousin Daisy it could have been even worse.

Imagine Britney Spears in those hot pants:eek:

This is why I'm glad about JS - could have been MUCH worse!

As hot as she is, nothing good can come from this. Ten buck she can act as well as Paris Hilton.

Seann William Scott, Johnny Knoxville, and now Jessica Simpson.

It's good to know a lot of thought went into casting people who actually resemble the original stars.

Next thing you know they'll be turning the General Lee into a Mitsubishi with NOS and green lights running along the undercarriage.

Please Hollywood, I beg you, stop raping my childhood.

Amen to that brother...

...but I gotta say that, with Jessica Simpson on as Daisy Duke, this has the potential to be a good remake. Let's all hope it doesn't resemble the massive slop of unfunny inanity that is Starsky and Hutch.

I seem to remember Dukes Of Hazzard was a "massive slop of unfunny inanity";)

And you may be right in that respect....

...both Starsky and Hutch and Dukes of Hazzard weren't consistently laugh out loud TV shows, but they did have a certain charm to them (especially to those in the age range of 11-16).

Tod Phillip's take on Starsky and Hutch wiped out the charm completely....let's hope the director of the new Dukes doesn't do the same...

...and let's pray that Jessica Simpson can pull off charming.

Doubt it. The girl was cast for her ass, plain and simple.

I'm with you on Starsky & Hutch.

The film was a complete ass raping of the original with a baseball bat embedded with rusty nails.

The worst TV adaptation ever.

Praise the powers that be for not letting Britney Spears get this role....at least Daisy won't look used up in the new film.

I actually enjoyed the Starsky & Hutch adaptation, alot. Of course that could be because I've never seen an episode of the TV show and therefore couldn't tell how badly it was butchered.

I can say right now, though, that chances are I'm not going to enjoy this adaptation nearly as much. I love the TV show too much for that to happen.

Amen to that!

I would just rather thay have cast someone a little less, I don't know, blonde. Catherine Bach was a brunette. It shows Warner Brothers have little respect for the TV show and just wanted to get the next (un)pretty face so they could make a little extra money. It's good business, I know, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

You're right about that my friend....

....profit, it's all about the profit....

...but what's this I heard recently about Jessica Simpson being denied the role of John McClane's daughter in Die Hard 4?

I know Daisy Dukes isn't a demanding role but this doesn't sound promising...

They have to stop , there hasnt one , not a one , good adaptation of an old tv show made yet . I Spy , Munsters , Flintstones , Scooby , Hillbillies , Starsky , they all suck harder than hell . Remaking a movie is one thing but to make a movie out of cheesy television shows that were never really that good to begin with , it's gag inducing .

Please let these things die already , and have a nice little retirement on DVD , don't make a movie out of them .

I like Sean William Scott. Certainly a lot better than Ashton, which until now I thought was going to be in the movie.

And Jessica Simpson. It could have been worse like some people have already said. At least she's easier to look at than Britney is.

I haven't seen the show, so I won't know if they will be butchering the movie or not. I'll decide when I see the trailer whether to see it or not.

Honestly I don't even think Jessica Simpson is even a good actress. She sucks!!!! She is even possible the stupidest human on earth if that is even possible. But if it is possible she is in the runner up spot with Pee Wee Herman. But anyways I think the movie should be pretty good because Sean William Scott is funny as shit so he would definitley add good qualities to add to the movie. SO this should be interesting and I will definitley go to support it.

The Untouchables
The Fugitive
Maverick
The X-Files
Star Trek

Ok, the last few probably their share of detractors so I guess it depends on whether you enjoy those shows, but I'm a fan of those shows.

But the Fugitive and The Untouchables are well recieved tv show adaptations. So the point is there are some good tv show adaptations.

And I actually loved the Starsky and Hutch movie.

Can I ask why?

I'm genuinely mystified how anyone can like that flick.

It's important to point out that The X-Files and Star Trek films weren't adaptations of their TV counterparts...they were translations (i.e., same actors, same crew, etc.)

As for The Fugitive and The Untouchables....those shows were cinematic enough to begin with that shifting them to the big screen was a smart move.

Dukes of Hazzard was many things, but "cinematic" won't be one of them....and since the writer behind the Starsky and Hutch adaptation is penning Dukes, I doubt it will be funny either.

I thought Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller made for a great team, were very funny and the movie itself was very funny. Also, Vince Vaughn rocked in the movie and Will Farrell was hilarious in his bit role!

Bottom line, I had a great time!

That is besides the point. The point was that you said there weren't any good tv show adaptations so I pointed those two out. And Maverick, which I love.

Personally, I don't think Simpson is any worse than half the pouty actresses out there. If Jennifer Garner can have a successful film career, any stick figure with a decent bust size and a reasonably pretty face can.

And is Daisy Dukes really that much of an acting stretch? I mean, seriously? Is she?
