Hi guys and fellow shmoes, Im glad to say that at last im about to accomplish a lifetime dream on opening a Videorental store and i want to make it Horror Themed, i have always dreamed on having a huge shelf for horror movies and all around the store something that represents horror like in my room, i want to get my store horror oriented and now i need your help guys to make it look great.
If you could help me out on giving me ideas on decoration, on a special LOGO that i need to make the cards and stuff and anything that comes to mind to have a cool Horror themed store i´d appreciate it....of course my store is called "Videojaws" and i want the shark from the movie JAWS on the logo....so if anyone here is a cool designer and can help me out i´d really appreciate it....im so happy i could cry..it´s a good moment for horror here in my town...now people will have a choice on where to get their fix.

I have an idea for a logo for you , but you'll have to wait till Ivan blows over before I can work on it.

Wouldn't such a logo get you in legal trouble? You want to remain as generic as possible. In fact, I'd consider changing the name. Jaws isn't your property to bandy about (unless you've already asked for permission).
I wish you the best of luck. I'll try to fulfill my dreams vicariously through you.

I don't think it would be copyright infringement to name a place Videojaws. There is a tourist trap store where I live, that is named Jaws. It has a shark theme, but nothing to do with the movie. Also, when you start a business you have to register the name first, and as long as nobody else has the name it's yours.
Now, that being said. I would not use the same Jaws font, shark or naked lady swimming above it.

Rogelioduron, just wanted to say congratulations and here are some ideas that you might want to consider:
Be imaginative as possible with the overall look of the store and most of all…Diversify…in other words check out the local competition. If there are other small mom and pop shops in your vicinity, take a walk inside them look around make a mental note of what they carry in terms of stock and merchandise. Then set out to be a totally different entity, stand out from the others.
Make your shop a place that people talk about and remember!! Establish a solid customer base from the get go. Make sure that the store is competently laid out, Consider hiring a local artist that deals in quality airbrush art, creating a mural of classic monsters and other characters from the genre on the interior walls.
Get the top of the line poster frames that are on par with what you see at your local theater. Display classic and contemporary horror movie posters, that way you have something that all generations can relate to. Maybe you could carry horror themed merchandise, toys, collectibles, T-shirts…the skies the limit!
Most importantly, establish a friendly atmosphere that makes people want to come back often!!! Hire someone that is very knowledgeable of film in general, it helps! Make sure that you carry a wide range of films, turn the customer on to the most recommended titles that they may not be aware of.
Bring back the showmen ship that was all the rage of the early days of going to the theater. Have giveaways and contests that test the knowledge of the customers who are avid movie fans, offer free rentals or other merchandise as prizes!!! When Halloween rolls around inform the customer that if they come in costume on Halloween night half off the rental fee!!!
These are merely suggestions, nothing more…whatever you decide to do is totally up to you. It’s your dream so run with it and GOOD LUCK! All the best to you my friend!
Take Care and go get’em!:D

Congrats...I hope it works out. I'll try to think of some ideas but for now i'd just like to say to The Dead One that those are some genius suggestions. Well done!!!
Makes me wish I had a store like this near where I live. :(

Dirtmunky's is better.
However I thinkthe name in GENERAL isnt working. Sure, its YOU Rfavorite movie, but look at it from the casual observer.
Videojaws
Now, what might that be?
It makes SOME sense, but you see my point. The stores that die fast are the ones that dont get no curb appeal. People will look at the sing, and go "Huh"?
Unless its like
VIDEOJAWS
rental service
Or just decorated like a video store in general.
Am I being too picky? Or is there some relevance there?

I just saw all the replies that you guys gave me and im shocked..thanks for all the kind words and support..I know that this means a lot to me but it is also something for all Horror Fans out there that would like to make this sometime, today i had a vision and it said:
VIDEOJAWS
Independent Cinema Rental
VIDEOJAWS
Independent Film Store
VIDEOJAWS
Independent Movie House
You guys gimme your opinion about it...i liked the one that says Cinema but im between Rental or Store...or just Plain Cinema...
I want to see more Logos...come on guys i know you can do something cool with that damn shark..i want it to be the one in the poster..i want him to look badass.
Thanks for your support.
Im showing you guys pictures when im done with the place.

I sort of used the shark from the poster on mine, but I doubt you'd be able to use the actual picture from the poster.

I hate to sound too critical, but you should drop the Jaws angle altogether. Not only could it stir up legal bullshit, but like Adamjohnson said, it doesn't make sense. Sticking with "Independent Movie House" wouldn't be such a bad idea. If the storefront is distinctly horror-themed, you could get away with something self-indulgent, but it also needs to be self-explanatory. For instance, a nearby comic shop recently changed its name from "Time Tunnel" to "Toys & Comics." A "subtitle" wouldn't work. You want to be BIG, BOLD, and EYE-CATCHING.
Just my two cents.

Really cool. I`d like to get my own videostore or rental out there someday too, but now I`ve just got to live my dream through you.
By the way, how long do we have to make the logos? I`ll try to make a couple on the computer, but I prefer the good old pencil and I have no scanner, so I can only use my friend`s scanner and I don`t know when that might occur.
I personally would go with aninventive title. Though it wouldn`t be the title I`d choose (I`d probably go with some living dead references or something) I prefer VIDEOJAWS to some IMO boring titles like just Horror Video Rental or Independent Video Rental. This could be under the shop`s name with smaller letters, but not the name itself IMO.
The Dead One had some really nice ideas. I would probably say something similar, if he hadn`t already done it.

how about "Video shop of Horrors" (Like little shop of horrors...)
It sounded better in my head

ROGELIODURON...you are my idol! I always wanted to own & run a horror-themed video store! If sci-fi was included as a genre, you could always name it VIDEO PLANET. I always thought that was a cool title. Your logo could be Saturn, but instead of the rings, something horrific could be slithering around the makeshift planet.

I really wish that someone was opening up a store like your around me, I would be a customer in an instant. All the independent video stores have been run out of town by the corporate chains where I live.
A Horror theme video store is like a wet dream come true!
Seriously thats fucking awesome! :)

The store is still going under construction, I love my name os "VideoJaws" cause i love jaws and it kind of sounds like "VideoHouse" when you read it in Spanish, I live in México so no one..and i mean...no one is suing me for painting the JAWS poster on the outside of the store..im actually painting some more pictures and there are some guys that do great airbrush stuff so a pro will make it look badass.
I need the final logo for Monday...as in Next monday so if anyone can do it..it´d be cool but if not it´s o.k.
Im investing something close to 4,000 Dollars in this bussuness.
My videoclub will have some arcade machines too..so it´ll be cool
Im happy you guys support me and ill be sure to show you guys some pics of it when it opens on October 1.
Im sure on the 31st i´ll be attending clients on disguise..it´s gonna be cool!!!!!!!

Only 4 thousand , boy that's a steal . In NY it would prob cost around 100,000 to get things going . Not to mention the protection money you'll pay Vinnie Trapantino when you do open for business .
Anyway , if things go well , i hope you consider mail order rentals in the future .

Congrats... like everyone I wish I had something like this near me. I'd probably ask for job applications since I'd probably go their atleast a few times a week. (Might as well get paid for it right?)
VideoJaws sounds sorta cool to me. I'm sure if said enough it'll catch on.
Just a thought maybe have the shark taking a bite out of a video?
Well Good luck, and can't wait to see the pics.

Well, let me tell you that your logo was the one i chose to represent my video store, to this moment a person expert in the bussiness, an artist made all the painting on the outside with the classic jaws poster ona big scale and 2 huge logos on each side of the store like the one you did and i added in black on the lower part "Independent Cinema Store"
It looks so cool you´ll love it when i show you the pictures.
At last..my longtime dream come true..now i know you can reach all your dreams in time. with patuience and hard working you can reach all your dreams.
As for this moment i still need o get all the movies inside..label them..get them into the computer system (Which i sadly still don´t have..if any of you guys are programmers and can help i would appreciate it a lot) and i still have to do the best part...Decoration...im gonna give it a cool horror and all those other geners look inside, i know it´s gonna look cool.
I already labeled mi first 2 movies one VHS and one DVD..and both were...yeah you guessed it "JAWS"...the rest are so cool.
I placed all my original horror movies inside of it...im risking all my 14 years of horror collection on VHS and DVD movies in this place...it´s gonna be awesome...i want to make it good.
I will make all of you shmoes proud of a cool Horror videostore and ill let you know what does it look like and everything you feel like saying to me of ideas im all ears....thanks again guys..
LONG LIVE VIDEOJAWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this a painted on logo or an actual light up outside display type sign?? Anyways, I guess you already made your logo, but I think it would have been cool to make the "Jaws" teeth out of actual video tapes cut jagged.

Hi, It´s been a while since i posted for you guys my fellow schmoes but now that i have the chance i´ll tell you about my store.
It all began with my video collection and me making swaps and trades on the internet and even on this forum, i met a lot of cool people, a lot of cool horror fans and i started to get a lot of great films...as time went by there came this opportunity to rent this videostore that was beaten down...old...and used to be an all VHS Dirtfest with not even new releases or anything, that´s when i came up with the plan t make it a "Horror Based and Themed Video Rental Store".
So i talked to my sister who is the one who helped me economically and we got this going from scrap.
I only had my golden horror movies collection and some other original ones to offer and i did..I got them all out and started my store..with 320 movie to begin...It was October 1st last year when i started...I handeled a lot of publicity...Flyers...and made special offers and stuff...and now...10 Months later im begining to be recognized in a lot of places around this big city Monterrey where i live, There are customers that travel long ways to get to my store, I took a lot of the cool advices you guys gave me and I have made great friends out of this store, it´s a really great experience for me.
A lot of people help me get all those hard to get films that no Blockbuster or anyone on competition have...I have great films that are hard to sell but its my daily work...get people together with cool oldschool horror films and new ones.
I have a lot of pictures of my store but i dont know how to show them to you guys here..if anyone can help and gimme some easy directions i´d be glad to show you my progress...now, 10 months from the begining i have close to 1,000 movies...and im happy...Im very happy..people love good movies and i rent them.
I have a lot...and i mean a lot of Japanese,Chinese,Korean...all Tartan Asia Extreme Goodies and More....a whole wall of Asian Imports and More...Hope one day one of you schmoes can visit me.
Talk to you later...and thanks for the support.

Congrats to you! You should get a card board stand up of Elvira for your store. You may think I am full of shit, but they have been known to protect and bring good luck to any place that has them. It is true, I would not lie!

Awesome news about your store man. Congrats and I hope things continue to go well for ya.
I know it might be late now but when I was young I remember going to this video store that well inside it had the horror section set up to look like the outside of this creepy old house with a chucky doll in the window and a chair ont he porch that rocked by itself and once you went inside all the horror flicks were found there in this spooky green lighting. Pretty nifty idea if ya ask me. I miss that store. :(

well, many congrats on your venture and im glad its working out for you and continue to
i think a store specific to horror is a great thing (sadly none existent anywhere ive been in the UK :( )
as for images (id like to see em) if they were taken with a digital camera upload em using imageuploader.net (or other such site) and post the links here
if not digital you could scan em into ur computer and then upload em

a cheaper way is to get a cheap disposable camera , and have them put the pics on a cd , then you can just upload pics right from the cd .
and congratulations , hope you get into mail order soon .
