GOD DAMN! Why isn't anyone talking about this? Sam Raimi! Fucking freaky looking movie! What's everyone waiting for? This and SAW are atop the movies I cannot wait for.

Go there and watch the trailer! GODDD DAMN I CANNOT WAIT.

Let me be the first to say...

The original was superior.

Copyright 'Ringu' fans.

Actually, looks not bad. Too polished a product to be genuinely terrifying, I'm thinking. Hollywood remakes lose a little in the translation, and vibe is the first thing to go. Will definitely watch out for it, though.

The Ring was a brilliant film over the vastly overatted Ringu. Hopefully this will be t he same.

I wouldn't say RINGU was overrated but I found RING to be much much scarier. Makes the original looks like Child's Play. I don't understand why people always feel the need to defend originals so strongly. Sure, the original made the story, the characters...but that doesn't mean the remake can't do it better :)!

YES Chemical Romance I'm glad to see someone else taking a strong interest in The Grudge. I wanna see it so goddamn bad. The Sam Raimi title is promising, as is the fact that it's directed by the same guy who made all the originals (I'm to understand there was a few of them?). In addition, I used to worship SMG, I'm hoping this movie puts her back into my good graces. I think the trailer for this movie was excellent as well. It keeps the plot a mystery but showcases a (dare I say it) fresh style. Oct. 22nd can't come soon enough.

I don't want to get this too far off topic, but I believe that Ringu is superior to the still effective Ring. Leaves more to the imagination. Hollywood insists on showing everything and I like movies that leave more to the imagination. Anyway, The Grudge looks like it could be good. I will be there opening night hoping for a good scare before Halloween. Anyone else read that they tested an R and PG-13 version, and the latter tested better?

It was called Ju-on (The Grudge).

P.S. I was taking the piss out of the purists who always claim the original of a remake is better.

P.P.S. Ringu actually is better than The Ring, though.

Can't wait to see this. I wanted to see Saw as well, but I don't want to anymore that much, I'll probably still see that though, and The Grudge is an "open night" kind of movie to see with a big crowd.

call me Brian, ED stands for Eliza Dushku ::drool::

Madsen I heard the same thing, I think it was over at the old creature-corner. Interesting to say the least...

The official site just expanded and it really creeped me out when I looked around before. I also saw a new commercial posted at comingsoon.net (not as cool as the official site but it definitely didn't hurt my opinion). My Grudge hype looks to kick into full gear pretty soon.

The original was great... and if they can be as good as The Ring (although yes, Ringu was better), then it should be very good.

Let's see if SMG can do a GOOD movie for a change!

Wow how's this for creepy cleverness? I was over at Dark Horizons when an ad for the Grudge cuaght my eye, mostly because it said my name! When entering teh official site, you know how you type your first name and initial? Well that's what showed up at DH followed by the line "once it sees you it never forgets" (or sumthing like that). I thought it was cool/scary enough to post about it here.

I'm really looking forward to this. I don't mind the majority of remakes that are being made, The Ring was a great movie, and even stuff like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre '03 was great. The trailer for this is effective and definitely has psyched me up for it. That final shot with the hand at the back of SMG's head is gold. The official site is also well worth a look. Definitely one film i'll be seeing opening day or opening weekend.

I really enjoyed the original. It's sometimes a bit hard to follow the trajectory these films have taken - I believe the one I saw, Ju-On: The Grudge, was a remake of a DTV called just Ju-On.

In any case, I really enjoyed the one I watched, and I'm hoping the American version might make the events a little more linear. I sometimes got a little lost.

Some new stills are up at Latino Review. They're all pretty cool.

ETA: I just realized that there are two different TV spots that you can watch on the official website. I like the second one more than the first one.

Quick question. I never saw the original Ringu or The Grudge. But the creepy girl with black hair crawling down the stairs in the Grugde trailer, did they just copy that form the Ring movie? Because the girl going down the stairs looks almost identical to the girl crawling out of the tv in the Ring. Just a question I had.

not to g e t off topic but I love subtle scares (just saw The Eye and loved it) but to me Ringu underplayed it. It was the first film I ever used the words over-subtle too.

Mentiroso, I was wondering the same thing

No they didn't copy it. Ghosts with long black hair and pale faces are part of Japanese folklore, just like werewolves and vampires are to Americans. And actually the original Ju-On was released before Ringu was.

Actually, no. RINGU was from 1998, JU-ON from 2000.

Not sure if this is related, but the trailer seems heavily reminiscent of a video game called Clock Tower (if I remember correctly). Is this film (and/or the original version) inspired by the game?

I saw the original of Ju-on last year and it was quite jumpey, similar to the Ring original. Cant wait for the remake!

Also saw SAW last night - very good but twisted movie (pun - you'll know what I mean when u watch it). If you liked the Cube and Seven, you'll like this!

I just wanna know, spoilers or not, whats with the little kid popping up next to the bed and fucking meowing?

I mean, is that supposed to be scary? Cause it just makes me go "why the hell did that kid just meow" instead of scaring me.

S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-SPOILERS!

The event of the murders that took place in the "grudge" house causing the little boy and the woman to kill went like this

-Father found out something about the wife
-Father kills wife
-Father kills their cat
-Kills the boy(?)not shown although assumed

What appears to happen is that the spirit of the cat has possessed the boy and that is why he goes around meowing. I never found it creepy although in Ju-On The Grudge 2 he looks damn scary.

I think the Grudge looks like crap. It doesn't look the least bit creepy or scary or even original. Also the PG-13 rating doesn't help and that meowing boy was just stupid. If anything I think this will be a very funny movie. P.S. I hated the Ring.

Most of the time these foriegn movie remakes get muddled down into absolute crap --- see "Taxi" for example, which was a French action movie that got turned into a Queen Latifah vehicle.

The recent Asian remakes may be different. The producer involved with pitching the idea to Hollywood is (1) somebody who is familiar with the making of the original films, (2) stays involved with the films, (3) the same guy who is also in charge of all of the main Asian remakes including the Ring, the Grudge, and Next year's Dark Water.

This producer saved "the Ring" from being watered down too much by Hollywood, and has secured Nakata a job for "The Ring 2," not to mention giving the orginal director of the "Juon" a chance to remake the Grudge with a Japanese crew in Japan.

I have high hopes.

I watched the original and frankly if it looks exactly like the orignal which it does it going to bomb. First thing the story is extremely disjointed consisting of short vignetes of different characters that overlapp. Think of Pulp Fiction's plot strcutre then apply it to a horror film.

Also while Gellars character is in it the most shes not the star of the film. In the original her character is in the film for really only half the time.

While did like the original Im hoping the explain certian aspects that werent completely fleshed out in t he original

The original is one of my fave horror flicks of all time so no doubt im curios to see how this turns out.
