i guess im the only one who thought the ring sucked, but i don't think an R rating would have made it any better? maybe a shirtless Naomi Watts...

I think PG-13 makes movie scarier, becuase it proves to me that the movie doesn't rely on extreme violence and gore to get a person scared. This, like the Ring, is going to make me soil myself 3x over.

PG-13 for mature thematic material, disturbing images/terror/violence, and some sensuality

I also thought the ring sucked, big time! An R would've helped a little but not too much. Personally I feel a horror movie should have at least an R rating. Not all horror movies have to be gory but if a horror movie isn't R, there's a pretty good chance it will suck. I'm not into "kiddy' horror. I want my hardcore, violent, disturbing R gore. Oh well... I wasn't gonna see the grudge anyway.

I did some digging found this statement from the MPAA...

PG-13 for making subliminal shots of dull children with dark hair and light skin in hospital gowns not scary anymore.

Well I love a hard R-rated horror film more than anyone (I'll be seeing Saw on opening day), I have no problem with this movie being PG-13.

Judging by the excellent trailer for The Grudge, I don't think it's going to take buckets of blood and gore to make this an effective scary movie.

Plus, all hail the return of Bill Pullman. I can't remember the last time I saw this guy in a movie.

Yeah but if a movie is PG-13 then that takes away maybe just a little of the suspence becuase whatever's going to happen you know it's not gonna be gory. For example in the R-rated Alien there was only one really gory scene (the android decapitation doesn't count) but audiences at the time didn't know that so that so it added to the suspence. Turn out no-one was eaten alive onscreen but the R-rating left that possibilty open.
Same goes for The Omen.

I would also like to add that the US version of The Ring is inferior to the original Japanese one.

I was actualy hoping this wouldnt get an R, movies like this rarely need or deserve them.

After alot of thought, there is normally one horror movie I can not wait to see that comes out in October. Last year it was Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this year it's The Grudge.

I don't think this poses any problems. Having seen Ju-On, Ju-On 2 and Ju-On: The Grudge I can state with some confidence that gore wouldn't add anything to these movies (there is some in the originals but not enough for it to be a crucial element...these are not gore movies...not even close). I think this is going to be excellent and am looking forward to getting scared out of my socks at the cinema.

I red the PG version tested alot better than the R, so I have no problem with this. It actually bodes well for it's box office chances, and I would love for this movie to be a hit.
