Radar Pictures is beefing up its slate on the strength of two projects already under way: The Amityville Horror remake with MGM and Zathura with Columbia Pictures. A-listers such as Robert Redford are already attached to the upcoming projects.
Redford will star in and probably direct The Brutus Complex, the political thriller by Ari Rubin. Also in the works for Radar is a remake of Wait Until Dark at Warner Bros.
Two comedy projects are also on the Radar slate. They are Jeff the Demon, written by Joe Ventura and Tom Scharpling, and the untitled Amnesia Project, by Jason Mantzoukas and Brian Huskey.
Two book adaptations are also going forward. They include The Plumber, a true story about a blue-collar plumber who risks his life and loved ones to take down the Philadelphia mob, and The Know-It-All, about A.J. Jacobs' real-life journey of reading the entire Encyclopedia Britannica.
In addition, Radar is teaming with surf apparel giant Quiksilver on In Search of Captain Zero, an adaptation of Allan C. Weisbecker's surf memoir, in which Sean Penn is starring.
Radar founder Ted Field is a music-mogul-turned-movie-producer and Marshall Field heir. He has been involved in films ranging from Three Men and a Baby to The Hand That Rocks the Cradle to The Last Samurai. The Hollywood record label he co-founded, Interscope Records, brought rap to the masses.
Radar has recently added creative executives Mike Weber and Davida Heller, director of creative affairs Jennifer Worley and director of legal and business affairs Jason Cosgrove to its new, improved mix. They join executive vice presidents Joe Rosenberg and David Boyle.
