Wondering if anyone went to this years festival and what upcoming movies you saw and either recommend or don't.
I saw and recommend:
THE MACHINIST - Great performance from Christian Bale as a guy who works in a machine shop who hasn't slept in 6 months. Don't want to say anything else so I don't spoil it. You won't believe how much weight Bale lost for the role.
Todd Solondz' PALINDROMES - If you liked "Welcome to the Dollhouse" and "Happiness" you'll like this one. Weird, quirky and funny.
somewhat recommend:
CREEP - british horror movie about a woman stuck in the underground at night - something is out to get her. The first half is good, second half shows too much of "the creep". Pretty bloody.
ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON - Sean Penn in a true story about a down and out guy who tries to hijack a plane and crash it into the white house. An interesting story that i never knew about, and a good performance from Penn.
do not recommend:
I HEART HUCKABEES - Not many laughs, and the extensionalism gets very tedious after 30 mins.
YES - a Sally Potter chick flick starring Joan Allen. Believe it or not, All of the dialog rhymes. Don't let your girlfriends talk you into this boring mess!
