This question means also actors known from dramatic roles doing an impression in a comedy, or other such transitions.

For example, Jim Carrey's acting in Man on the Moon or Truman Show was excellent, both of them were still comedies but the role was much more challenging than his previous roles in films like Ace Ventura.

And the other side of it, I'm a big fan of Edward Norton, and he changed to a much lighter role in Keeping the Faith, which he also directed.

Robin Williams in GOOD MORNING VIETNAM...it was the first time he was truly recognized as a great actor. Was worthy of the oscar nod.

Jim Carrey in both "Man on the Moon" and "The Truman Show", and Robin Williams in "Good Will Hunting".

While I don't like a lot of his movies, Jerry Lewis did an excellent non-comedic role in King Of Comedy.

Robin Williams in Jakob the Liar was wonderful. He really is a wonderful actor in any genre.
