Saving Private Ryan
Black Hawk Down
M*A*S*H* (I know, it's a anti-war comedy)
The Thin Red Line
Platoon

QUENTIN

1.) Apocalypse Now
2.) Bridge On The River Kwai
3.) Platoon
4.) Born On The Fourth of July
5.) The Thin Red Line
6.) All Quiet on The Western Front
7.) The Deer Hunter
8.) Three Kings
9.) Glory
10.) Saving Private Ryan

If they count Dr. Strangelove, The Grand Illusion, The Great Escape and Battleship Potemkin would rank highly among the list as well.

I haven't seen a lot of war movies yet (usually when QUENTIN makes a list, it becomes a must-see list for me), but my favorite war movie of all time is Saving Private Ryan. I know that's what all the uneducated-moviefans would probably say, but I just love that movie.

Haven't seen Platoon or Deer Hunter yet, I really would like to though.

That's a good question. I'd say the best war movie is Bridge on the River Kwai, followed by Saving Private Ryan. Apocalypse Now could've been number 1, but it tried to get too artistic, and ended up defeating itself ultimately. It's still an excellent movie, but it could've been better.

Dr. Strangelove and Doctor Zhivago are great movies that have a war back-story, but the most full-on and best war movie I've seen is The Thin Red Line.

Battleship Potyomkin was actually set in Odessa, Ukraine it's where i was born and the stairs up that you see in the movie where people run up is right in front of THE BEST "SEAPORT"in EUROPE! (These DAYS) and we have also the biggest area for docks making it 'Biggest seaport'

Nuff said.

My favorite war movie is definately Apocalypse Now Redux. It is a masterpiece, almost as good as Copolla's The Godfather.

I know it isnt technically a movie, but I am gonna go with Band of Brothers. I thouroughly enjoyed that mini-series, and plan on buying the DVD, and one day when I have nothing to do, watching all 10 hours of it.
